Artesunate is a derivative of artemisinin and belongs to a class with antimicrobial properties. The compound is an active ingredient in the Chinese herb Artemisia annua and has been used in Malaria studies. Artesunate has been tested against 55 cell lines and demonstrated anti-cancer activity.
