在1000℃分解,不溶于一切通常的有机或无机溶剂;在潮湿空气中缓慢水解,易生成氢氧化钙,遇水和缓地反应并发出氢气。在675℃时分解。易被水、羧酸和低碳醇分解出放出氢气,不溶于二硫化碳,微溶于浓酸,易燃。 用作还原剂还原稀有金属氧化物以制备稀有金属、液体和气体干燥剂、化学分析试剂等。有机合成。

应用
氢化钙(CaH2)可作为还原剂,在高温下(600–1000°C)将金属氧化物还原为金属元素(例如,Ti、Zr、V、Nb、U和Th)。反应过程中,真正的还原剂是热解产生的金属钙。CaH2 还可将各种金属氢化物还原为金属。

Solvent in Sol-Gel precursor applicationsCalcium chloride is used as an efficient drying agent for aprotic base-stable solvents like ethers and tertiary amines. It is a useful dehydrating agent in a synthesis of aldehyde enamines in high yield and purity.
