Hydrogel electrolytes have attracted wide attention because of their high ionic conductivity and anti-leakage characteristics. However, these advantages are hindered under extreme conditions. In this paper, an ionogel electrolyte for supercapacitors with a wide temperature range is constructed. It consists of a double cross-linked structure of polyacrylamide and 1-vinyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide ([VMIM][TFSI]), with the addition of ethylene glycol and choline chloride to form a deep eutectic solvent with a large hydrogen bonding network. On this basis, a partial ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([EMIM] [TFSI]) is innovatively added to choline chloride. The ionogel electrolyte exhibits a conductivity of up to 13.26 mS/cm at 90 °C. A flexible supercapacitor is assembled with activated carbon electrodes and has a wide voltage window of 2.4 V. The specific capacitance and energy density are 43.81 F/g and 35.1 Wh/kg, respectively, when the current density is 0.25 A/g. Remarkably, the device retains high coulombic efficiency (97.1%) and capacitance retention (94.3%) after 10 000 cycles. These excellent properties show that the ionogel electrolyte prepared in this work has broad application prospects.

Sodium–metal chloride batteries are usually operated at a relatively high temperature (270–350 °C) to achieve adequate electrochemical performance. Such a high operating temperature may cause several issues and limit their widespread applications. Lowering the operating temperature may alleviate these issues, which can be achieved by reducing the ohmic resistance of a Na−β″-Al2O3 solid electrolyte (BASE) and incorporating a low-melting-point catholyte. Herein, a planar sodium–copper chloride battery is evaluated at intermediate temperatures (from 100 to 175 °C) with a thin BASE disk (500 μm) and a room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL). The RTILs at various concentrations (0.1–0.75 mol L–1) are prepared by dissolving different amounts of sodium bis(trifluoromethanesulfon)imide (NaTFSI) into 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([EMIm][TFSI]) and used as the catholyte. The effect of NaTFSI addition in [EMIm][TFSI] on the physical properties of the catholyte is examined. With 0.5 mol L–1 NaTFSI in [EMIm][TFSI] ionic liquid to assemble the Na/CuCl2 battery, the fabricated cell delivers a capacity up to 146.5 mAh g–1 when cycled at 175 °C with the current density of 2 mA cm–2 and retains 94.5% capacity after 20 cycles. Moreover, the battery can run steadily at 130 °C and show a reversible capacity of 79.2 mAh g–1 when the operation temperature is set as low as 100 °C. To the best of our knowledge, these are the lowest operation temperatures reported thus far for sodium–metal-chloride-based cells.

Ionogel electrolytes (IGEs) with chemical and thermal stability properties have attracted considerable attention for all-solid-state energy storage devices, particularly for high-performance supercapacitors (SCs). However, achieving high conductivity, flexibility, and toughness, as well as deformation and impact resistance in special cases, is challenging with the typical polymer based on ionic liquids (ILs). Here, an effective gelation strategy is proposed for the preparation of free-standing LiTFSI/[EMIM][TFSI]/PVDF-HFP ionogels (IGs) by double-additive induced physical cross-linking. The mechanical and electrochemical properties of the IGs can be synergistically optimized by the cross-linking and entanglement of LiTFSI and [EMIM][TFSI] with the PVDF-HFP network. The target IGs simultaneously exhibit excellent deformation capacity (over 50 %), high ionic conductivity (10.3 × 10 −3 S cm −1 at 25 °C), hardness (H: 728.6 kPa), and Young's modulus (E: 11.4 MPa), which can exhibit the specific capacitance of 274. 55 F g −1 , energy density of 38.13 Wh kg −1 and maximum power density of 2499.93 W kg −1 in the fabricated symmetric supercapacitor . The results will motivate us to further explore their applications for flexible electronic devices, wearable electronic skin, and flexible energy storage.

Flexible electronics have been extensively investigated in recent years due to their convenient and wearable properties. Considering the practical applications in the external environment, the demand for portable and miniaturized sensing systems is prominent, for example, detecting harmful and toxic gases. Flexible sensors provide a potential novel solution for achieving the above goals, which is wearable sensing. In this paper, we develop a flexible sensor based on the ionic gel (Ion-Gel) for the detection of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP). DMMP is a kind of organophosphorus gas, which may cause pollution to the environment and harm to biology. The Ion-Gel sensitive film is prepared through in-situ copolymerization of the polymer monomer poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA), ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (EMIM-TFSI) and gas-sensing group hexafluoroisopropyl alcohol (HFIPA) under 365 nm ultraviolet light . The sensitive film can be patterned through a shadow mask on the interdigital electrodes ultimately. The sensor exhibits good sensitivity to the DMMP, with a lower limit of detection reaching 100 ppb under room temperature . Noteworthily, the sensor’s detecting upper limit is successfully extended to high gas concentrations at 800 ppm and maintains good linearity. A flexible print board circuit (FPCB) front-end is developed for the flexible DMMP sensor to construct a wearable platform that can be attached to the hand to achieve real-time detection. When the alarm threshold is set to 2 ppm DMMP, the proposed wearable detection platform can successfully give an alarm signal within 15 s
