The circularly polarized state of light can carry encoding information through polarization modulation and structural information from the emitter or propagation medium. Therefore, the detection of the polarization state of light is a central function in various applications. One of the concise strategies is to transform left- and right-handed circularly polarized light (CPL) directly into distinguishable electronic signals using chiral structured materials. In this study, chiral films of β-In2S3 vertical nanosheet arrays are successfully grown using a facile solvothermal route. Chirality originates from the distortion of nanosheets with left or right-handedness controlled by the introduction of l-/d-cysteine as chiral inducers. Circularly polarized photodetectors based on chiral β-In2S3 films are fabricated. They exhibit good performances with a responsivity (R) of 8.0 A/W, photodetectivity (D*) of 5.0 × 1012 Jones, the photocurrent dissymmetry factor (gIph) of 0.34, and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 2.2 × 103 (%) for a CPL of 450 nm.
The hierarchical flower-like β-In 2 S 3 catalyst assembled from 2D nanosheets was prepared using an organic-component depletion method utilizing inorganic-organic hybrids indium diethyldithiocarbamate (In-DDTC) as a single-source precursor. The crystallization, morphology and composition of the as-synthesized β-In 2 S 3 were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS and XPS, respectively. The β-In 2 S 3 possessed high specific surface area of 134.1 m 2 g -1 , adsorption capacity of 195.5 mg g -1 for methylene blue, and extreme photodecolorization speed under visible light irradiation for the complete removal of methyl orange (MO) dye within 15 min and tetracycline within 60 min. Although methyl orange concentration decreased quickly, the total organic carbon (TOC) decreased slowly. UV-vis and mass spectrometry (MS) were applied to analyze the intermediates coming from the photodecolorization of MO. In order to estimate the roles of active species during the decolorization of MO, trapping experiments were conducted to determine the main active species during the decolorization process. The results indicated that . O 2
− radicals and e -1 were the key intermediates. This enhanced activity was attributed to its unique structures assembled from 2D nanosheets with thickness of ca. 5-7 nm, leading to high specific surface area, wide range of pore size distribution and great efficiency in absorbing light and electron/hole separation. The hierarchical flower-like β-In 2 S 3 demonstrated great advantages in the treatment of various wastewater pollutants including textile dyes and antibiotics.
This work designed a new photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunoassay for the ultrasensitive detection of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) based on the flower-like β-In 2 S 3 @carbon dots (CDs). The photocurrent of the as-prepared heterogeneous nanostructure was enhanced significantly under ultraviolet (UV), visible (Vis) and near-infrared (NIR) irradiation thanks to the more generation of carriers and less electron-hole pairs recombination with CDs. The three-layer sandwich-like immunocomplex would be formed upon the target AFP existed, the ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AA2P) was subsequently transformed into ascorbic acid (AA) owing to the catalysis of alkaline phosphatase-conjugated rabbit polyclonal anti-human AFP (ALP-Ab2). Without additional applied voltage, the photocurrent of the β-In 2 S 3 @CDs-modified electrode was positively correlated with the increasing AA level in the detection cell. Under optimal conditions, the developed PEC immunosensing platform exhibited good reproducibility and high sensitivity for the determination of target AFP within a dynamic working range from 0.5 to 50 ng mL −1 at a detection limit of 37.9 pg mL −1 . In addition, the method accuracy relative to human AFP ELISA kit was evaluated by analyzing human serum specimens, and a good match between two methods was obtained. Such the increasing photocurrent through full-spectrum responsive mode gives a new horizon to develop highly sensitive PEC immunoassay in early clinical diagnosis by monitoring disease-related biomarkers.
