μ3-O groups Mediated Peroxymonosulfate Activation via an Efficient Electron-Transfer on Manganese
The involvement of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in advanced oxidation processes represents a promising technology that can effectively reduce recalcitrant pollutants. In this study, taking advantage of the abundant and flexibly tunable terminal μ3-O groups of UiO-66, the high-efficient Mn modified UiO-66(Mn@UiO-66) was were prepared by direct complexation between μ3-O groups and Mn ions. It was optimized that the Mn@UiO-66 exhibited excellent catalytic performance to activate PMS for bisphenol A (BPA) degradation. Quenching experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) showed that the non-free radical pathway was dominant in BPA degradation, and singlet oxygen (1O2) was the main active species. In addition, an abnormal pollutant dependent PMS activation behavior was revealed; UiO-66 enriched with μ3-O promotes PMS activation via the μ3-O-mediated Zr-O-Mn electron transfer pathway, boosting performance for selective degradation of target pollutants from water. Interestingly, the presence of multiple coexisting cations and anions have little effect on the BPA degradation rate and PMS decomposition. The Mn@UiO-66/PMS system could also degrade effectively various organic pollutants, indicating its potential practical application value.
