Natural plant leaves with multiple functions, for example, spectral features, transpiration, photosynthesis, etc., have played a significant role in the ecosystem, and artificial synthesis of plant leaves with multiple functions of natural ones is still a great challenge. Herein, this work presents an aerogel-involved living leaf (AL), most similar to natural ones so far, by embedding super-hydrophobic SiO 2 aerogel microparticles in polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel in the presence of hygroscopic salt and chlorophyllin copper sodium to form solid-liquid-vapor triple-state gel. The AL shows a high spectral similarity with all sampled 15 species of natural leaves and exhibits ≈4–7 times transpiration speed higher than natural leaves. More importantly, AL can achieve several times higher photosynthesis than natural leaves without the energy provided by the respiratory action of natural ones. This work demonstrates the feasibility of creating ALs with natural leaf-like triple-state gel structures and multiple functions, opening up new avenues for energy conversion, environmental engineering, and biomimetic applications.

The emulation of the reflectance of green leaf in the solar spectral band (300–2500 nm) has garnered increasing attention from researchers. Currently, various materials have been proposed and investigated as potential bionic leaves. However, the problems such as poor weather durability, heavy metal pollution, and complex preparation technology still persist. Herein, a bionic leaf is prepared from an ultramarine green pigment as the functional material, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) as the film-forming material, and LiCl as the humidizer. To prepare the ultramarine green pigment, the sulfur anion is added into the β cage of the 4A zeolite. The mechanisms and properties were discussed based on X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and spectroscopic methods. The results show that the as-fabricated bionic leaf based on the 4A zeolite-derived ultramarine green pigment was able to demonstrate a high spectral similarity coefficient of 0.91 with the green leaf. Furthermore, the spectral similarity coefficient was increased to 0.94 after being subjected to a simulated rainforest environment for 48 h, which indicated its high weather durability. Keywords:bionic leaf;green pigment;solar reflectance;4A zeolite;ultramarine green

Electromagnetic protection in extreme environments requires materials with excellent thermal insulation capability and mechanical property to withstand severe temperature fluctuations and complex external stresses. Achieving strong electromagnetic wave absorption (EMA) while sustaining these exceptional properties remains a significant challenge. Herein, a facile approach is demonstrated to fabricate a biomimetic leaf-vein MXene/CNTs/PI (MCP) aerogel with parallel venations through bidirectional freeze-casting method. Due to its multi-arch lamellar structure and parallel venations within the aerogel layers, the ultralight MCP aerogel (16.9 mg·cm −3 ) achieves a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −75.8 dB and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB max ) of 7.14 GHz with an absorber content of only 2.4 wt%, which also exhibits superelasticity and structural stability over a wide temperature range from −196 to 400 °C. Moreover, this unique structure facilitates rapid heat dissipation within the layers, while significantly impeding heat transfer between adjacent layers, achieving an ultralow thermal conductivity of 15.3 mW·m −1 ·K −1 for thermal superinsulation. The combination of excellent EMA performance, robust structural stability, and thermal superinsulation provides a potential design scheme under extreme conditions, especially in aerospace applications.

Breathable and stretchable conductive materials are ideal for healthcare wearable electronic devices. However, the tradeoff between the sensitivity and detection range of electronic sensors and the challenge posed by simple-functional electronics limits their development. Here, inspired by the bionic-leaf vein conductive path, silver nanowires (AgNWs)-Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene) hybrid structure assembled on the nonwoven fabrics (NWF) is well sandwiched between porous polyborosiloxane elastomer (PBSE) to construct the multifunctional breathable wearable electronics with both high anti-impact performance and good sensing behavior. Benefiting from the high conductive AgNWs-MXene hybrid structure, the NWF/AgNWs-MXene/PBSE nanocomposite exhibits high sensitivity (GF = 1158.1), wide monitoring range (57 %), controllable thermal management properties, and excellent electromagnetic interference shielding effect (SE T = 41.46 dB). Moreover, owing to the wonderful shear stiffening effect of PBSE, the NWF/AgNWs-MXene/PBSE possesses a high energy absorption performance. Combining with deep learning, this breathable electronic device can be further applied to wireless sensing gloves and multifunctional medical belts, which will drive the development of electronic skin, human-machine interaction, and personalized healthcare monitoring applications.

The advancement of highly sensitive and multifunctional sensors is beneficial for promoting flexible electronic devices and human healthcare management. Herein, inspired by the bionic leaf structure, a flexible PVA-PEDOT: PSS/TPU-CNT@MXene nanofibrous membrane (PPTCM NFM) with a biomimetic interwoven pattern was constructed to manufacture multifunctional sensors and heating devices using advanced two-nozzle electrospinning and nano-welding technology. Because of the synergetic impact of the interwoven multi-conductive structure among MXene, fragile PVA-PEDOT: PSS (PVA-PP) network, and strong TPU-CNT network, which allowed the distribution of tensile load to each conductive layer, the PPTCM NFM displayed high sensitivity (the maximum gauge factor of 1132.8 at 55 %). Due to the slide of the MXene nanosheets and the stretching of PVA-PP, the PPTCM NFM exhibits fast response and recovery times of 780/780 ms at a low detection limit (1 % strain) and high dynamic response performance (500 mm min −1 ) under modest strains which enabled its utilization in monitoring both small human motions like facial expressions and throat vibrations. Nevertheless, the TPU-CNT layer provided support under large strains, allowing for the detection of larger-scale movements such as bending of fingers, wrists, elbows, and knees. In addition, the PPTCM NFM makes it easier for the mutual conversion of finger pressure and language. Notably, the PPTCM NFM also possessed outstanding Joule heating capabilities and electrical signal responsiveness to solar light radiation. This interconnected conductive network membrane served as a novel platform material for health monitoring systems and efficient personal thermal management applications.

Inorganic photocatalyst–enzyme systems are a prominent platform for the photoreduction of CO2 to value-added chemicals and fuels. However, poor electron transfer kinetics and enzyme deactivation by reactive oxygen species in the photoexcitation process severely limit catalytic efficiency. In chloroplast, enzymatic CO2 reduction and photoexcitation are compartmentalized by the thylakoid membrane, which protects enzymes from photodamage, while the tightly integrated photosystem facilitates electron transfer, promoting photocatalysis. By mimicking this strategy, we constructed a novel functionally compartmental inorganic photocatalyst–enzyme system for CO2 reduction to formate. To accomplish efficient electron transfer, we first synthesized an integrated artificial photosystem by conjugation of the cocatalyst (a Rh complex) onto thiophene-modified C3N4 (TPE-C3N4), demonstrating an NADH regeneration rate of 9.33 μM·min–1, 2.33 times higher than that of a homogeneous counterpart. The enhanced NADH regeneration activity was caused by the tightly conjugated structure of the artificial photosystem, enabling rapid electron transfer from TPE-C3N4 to the Rh complex. To protect formate dehydrogenase (FDH) from photoinduced deactivation, FDH was encapsulated into MAF-7, a metal–organic framework (MOF) material, to compartmentalize FDH from the toxic photoexcitation process, similar to the function of the thylakoid membrane. Moreover, the triazole linkers of MAF-7 possess both hydrophilicity and pH-buffering capacity providing a stable microenvironment for FDH, which could enhance enzyme stability in photosynthesis. The synergy between the enhanced electron transfer of TPE-C3N4 for NADH cofactor regeneration and MOF-protection of the redox enzyme enables the construction of a functionally compartmental inorganic photocatalyst–enzyme association system, promoting CO2 photoconversion to formic acid with a yield of 16.75 mM after 9 h of illumination, 3.24 times greater than that of the homogeneous reaction counterpart.

In this study, we developed copper alginate-carbon nanotube/copper sulfide-graphene oxide gel membranes based on the design inspired by the surface structure of leaves and plant transpiration in nature and through the modulation of high-density polymer networks. This light-driven water evaporation-specific adsorption gel membrane is capable of using solar energy to drive water evaporation from contaminated surface water to access tetracycline antibiotics for detection. Combined with the designed biomimetic adsorption detection chip, in situ monitoring of tetracycline antibiotics in water bodies was achieved. Compared with the traditional mass spectrometry detection method, it shows more outstanding performance in terms of time, environmental protection and technology. The microscale adsorption mechanism was further explored on the molecular scale by density functional theory (DFT). The results showed that tetracycline antibiotics were adsorbed on the aerogel membrane mainly through π-πEDA interactions in sandwich (S) configuration and parallel displacement (PD) configuration, which ensured high adsorption efficiency. Under the optimized conditions, the tetracycline concentration detected by the sensor showed a good linear relationship with the cyclic voltammetry curve, and the lowest detection limit was 1.59*10 −4 μM. This adsorption detection strategy can reduce the influence of organic matter, inorganic matter, and other classes of antibiotics on the detection of tetracycline antibiotics, and provide a new idea for the high-efficiency photo-thermal actuation and in-situ testing of tetracycline antibiotics.
