A low-permeability reservoir contains many fine pore throat structures, which result in excessive injection pressure of the water injection well and difficult water injection in the production process of a low-permeability reservoir. In this study, a new silane coupling agent was synthesized via the ring-opening reaction between dodecyl amine and KH-560 (γ-propyl trimethoxysilane). The modified KH-560 was reacted with nano-SiO2to synthesize the modified nano-SiO2as an antihypertensive additive. Fourier infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and laser scattering were used to characterize this modified nano-SiO2. The results show that the particle size of the modified nano-SiO2is less than 60 nm. The test results of the water contact angle show that the dispersion system can increase the rock contact angle from 37.34° to 136.36°, which makes the rock surface transform from hydrophilicity to hydrophobicity and reduce the binding effect of rock with water. The dispersion test shows that the modified nano-SiO2has good dispersion stability under alkaline conditions with TX-100 (Polyethylene glycol octylphenyl ether) as the dispersant. The antiswelling test results show that the antiswelling rate of this modified nano-SiO2is 42.9%, which can efficiently prevent the clay expansion in the formation to reduce the injection pressure. The core displacement test results show that its depressurization rate reaches 49%. The depressurization rate still maintains 46% at a 20 PV water flow rate, indicating that its depressurization effect is remarkable and it has excellent erosion resistance.Keywords:nano-SiO2;hydrophobicity;ultra-low-permeability reservoir;pressure reduction

Nanofiltration (NF) membrane technology, distinguished for high separation performance and energy efficiency, has been extensively employed in desalination and wastewater treatment. Herein, high-precision 3D printing is used to fabricate robust support layers featuring ideal straight-through micropores, effectively minimizing permeation resistance. To ensure the generation of a high-quality PA selective layer, electrospinning deposits a thin nanofiber layer that divides the support layer surface into fine grids. Finally, interfacial polymerization (IP) forms a PA selective layer on the membrane substrate, which is integrated by 3D-printed support layer and nanofiber layer, yielding a highly permeable composite NF membrane. With reduced permeation resistance and enhanced mechanical strength, the novel 3D-printed composite NF membrane maintains a long-term water permeance of above 22.5 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 , about double that of commercial NF270 membranes. Meanwhile, it achieves exceptional Na 2 SO 4 rejection of 97.8 % and superior anti-fouling performance. This study offers a promising approach to fabricating high-performance NF membranes using high-precision 3D printing, providing an innovative and scalable strategy for developing next-generation functional membranes.

During the development of low or ultra-low permeability oil resources, the alternative energy supply becomes a prominent issue. In recent years, carbon dots (CDs) have drawn much attention owing to their application potential in oil fields for reducing injection pressure and augmenting oil recovery. However, carbon dots characterized of small size, high surface energy are faced with several challenges, such as self-aggregation and settling. The preparation of stably dispersed carbon dots nanofluids is the key factor to guarantee its application performance in formation. In this work, we investigated the stability of hydrophilic carbon dots (HICDs) and hydrophobic carbon dots–Tween 80 (HOCDs) nanofluids. The influences of carbon dots concentration, sorts and concentration of salt ions as well as temperature on the stability of CDs were studied. The results showed that HICDs are more sensitive to sort and concentration of salt ions, while HOCDs are more sensitive to temperature. In addition, the core flooding experiments demonstrated that the pressure reduction rate of HICDs and HOCDs nanofluids can be as high as 17.88% and 26.14%, respectively. Hence, the HICDs and HOCDs nanofluids show a good application potential in the reduction of injection pressure during the development of low and ultra-low permeability oil resources.

Carbon dots (CDs), a class of fluorescent nanomaterials distinguished by their unique properties such as tunable surface chemistry and nanoscale dimensions, have garnered significant attention. In this study, we synthesize CDs-based emulsifiers through a combination of hydrothermal synthesis and hydrophobic modification utilizing dynamic covalent imine bonds, imparting them with amphiphilicity and pH-responsiveness. These carbon dot-based emulsifiers stabilize the oil–water interface to form Pickering emulsions and enable the reversible regulation of amphiphilicity through pH-induced cleavage and reformation of imine bonds, thereby facilitating transitions between emulsification and demulsification. Furthermore, the amphiphilic CDs effectively reduce oil–water interfacial tension and exhibit potential application in mobilizing heavy oil in ultra-low permeability reservoirs. Consequently, we observed a 28.78 % decrease in injection pressure and an 18.65 % increase in recovery rates. Experimental and theoretical results reveal that the CDs adsorb onto both solid and oil phase surfaces, modulating the interfacial properties and enabling the oil film attached to the rock wall to be more easily stripped off during water flushing. Additionally, the small size of the CDs allowed them to enter finer pore throats and effectively displace the residual oil film. This unique characteristic holds significant promise for future advancements in the fields of smart-response Pickering emulsions and enhanced oil recovery in ultra-low permeability reservoirs.

With high water cuts and high permeability reservoirs entering the middle and late stage, many old oil fields in China are facing the dilemma of oil and gas resource exhaustion, while low-permeability reservoir resources remain very rich. As an oil recovery technology, imbibition displacement plays an important role in the exploitation of low-permeability reservoirs and prolongs the production cycle of old oil fields. Based on the imbibition kinetic equation, the mechanism and process of oil displacement in imbibition recovery are explained in this paper. Based on the characteristics of small particle size and high activity, the influence of temperature, viscosity, permeability, and salinity on the degree of imbibition recovery was studied. The results show that the imbibition production of low-permeability reservoirs mainly depends on capillary force, which firstly drains oil from small pores to large pores, and then drains it by buoyancy. Using nanofluids for imbibition oil recovery, a higher recovery effect of up to 45.59% can be achieved. The change in different external conditions will affect the imbibition recovery effect. The imbibition recovery efficiency increases with the increase in temperature, decreases with the increase in oil viscosity, and increases with the increase in core permeability. The increase in salinity has an inhibiting effect on the imbibition recovery efficiency. Based on the multivariate analysis of variance, the change in permeability has the greatest influence on the degree of imbibition recovery, and the change in viscosity has the least influence on the degree of imbibition recovery.

The matrix/fracture conductivity of a fractured low-permeability reservoir is variable, and its heterogeneity is serious. When carrying out deep profile control measures, it is difficult to inject under the premise of ensuring the plugging effect. According to the characteristics of the fractured low-permeability reservoir in Chaoyanggou Oilfield, the polymer/chromium ion deep profile control system was optimized via a viscosity evaluation experiment, liquidity experiment and oil displacement experiment. The experimental results show that the high molecular weight main agent/low concentration system and low molecular weight main agent/high concentration system can meet the gel strength requirement. The evaluation results of the injection ability and plugging performance of the fractured low-permeability core show that a high molecular weight profile control system is difficult to inject, while a low molecular weight profile control system has a poor plugging performance and high cost after simulated shear. Therefore, the formulation of the profile control system was determined to be a polymer with a molecular weight of 16 million g·mol−1as the main agent with a concentration of 1000–1500 mg·L−1. As assisting agents, the concentrations of thiourea, NaCl and NaHCO3were 900 mg·L−1, 800 mg·L−1and 700 mg·L−1, respectively. The plugging rate of the system was 87.6%, and the resistance coefficient was 19.2. Finally, a fractured low-permeability core model with parallel long cores was designed, and the optimal profile control system was used for the core oil-displacement experiment. Compared with the water-flooding experiment, the plugging rate can be increased by 6.9–8.0%.Keywords:fractured low-permeability reservoirs;polymer/chromium-ion;deep profile control system

Superhydrophobic wettability inspired by the “lotus effect” is an intriguing property in nature, but it is rarely applied in oilfield development. Superhydrophobic nanomaterials can effectively solve the problem of “high injection pressure and insufficient water injection” in low permeability oilfields by changing the properties of the core surface, which is of great significance to the development of low permeability oilfields. Herein, we report a novel type of superhydrophobic nanoparticle (SHNP) simply modified by fluorinated long chains, and a stable nanofluid is successfully prepared by compounding surfactant. The prepared SHNP nanofluid has an excellent core drag reduction effect, and the drag reduction rate is 1.35 times that of conventional NPs under the same conditions. The SHNPs assemble on the core surface to form a large number of micro/nanorough structures, which can effectively reduce the surface roughness of the core. The PIV experimental results show that compared with the injection of pure water, the center flow velocity in the subsequent water flooding center increases by 98.27% after the injection of SHNPs nanofluid (the flow velocity decreases by 53.45% after the injection of NPs). Moreover, bubble probe AFM technology has successfully shown that bubbles can be captured through the SHNPs superhydrophobic interface to form a gaseous film. By using the barrier effect of the gaseous film, the liquid–solid interface is converted to a liquid–gas-solid interface, thereby reducing the large resistance caused by the direct contact between the liquid and solid. Such SHNPs with simple modification and low cost have broad application potential in oilfield development.

In situ remediation of low-permeability soils contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE) is challenging due to limited mass transfer and low bioavailability in clay soils. The electrokinetic-enhanced bioremediation (EK-BIO) system offers a promising solution by combining electrokinetics with bioremediation to address these challenges. While previous studies have demonstrated microbial succession and TCE removal, the long-term performance of dechlorination and interactions between electrode reactions and anaerobic dechlorination remain unclear. This study constructed five one-dimensional columns, each operated for a different period (28, 42, 56, 84 and 138 days) to explore spatial and temporal dechlorination patterns. Continuous TCE degradation was achieved, with 46.52 % of TCE recovery. Prolonged electrokinetic operation accelerated the first-step dehalogenation (TCE to DCE). Although Dehalococcoides was widespread at 138 days (2.30–5.74 %), oxygen exposure led to irreversible damage, necessitating secondary inoculation. The presence of aerobic bacteria ( Comamonas and Pseudomonas ) suggested the formation of aerobic detoxification pathways in electrode chambers. Gene expression analysis ( tceA , vcrA and Dhc16S ) further confirmed the loss of 2nd and 3rd step dehalogenation (DCE to ethene) over time. These findings demonstrate that secondary inoculation and alternative aerobic pathways can sustain long-term biodegradation in the EK-BIO system. This study highlights the potential of the EK-BIO system for effective remediation of TCE-contaminated low-permeability soils, supporting its field application.

In this work, a novel three-step method was used to modify the surface of silicon quantum dots to synthesize amphiphilic silicon quantum dots (A-SiQDs) with higher interfacial activity. The particle size of A-SiQDs was only 3.5 nm. By adding a small amount of dodecyl dimethyl betaine (BS-12), the performance of A-SiQDs was further improved. Through particle size and zeta potential testing, it can be seen that the mixed system of A-SiQDs and BS-12 had good temperature and salinity resistance, and can be stable at 120 °C and 50,000 mg/L NaCl. Meanwhile, the mixed system exhibited superior interfacial activity compared with individual A-SiQDs and BS-12. The mixed system can lower the interfacial tension from 32.15 mN/m to 1.82 mN/m and transform the rock surface from an oil-wet to a strong water-wet state. This ensured the excellent imbibition ability of the mixed system, which can increase the oil recovery to 35.7 %. Finally, from the perspective of force, the influence of nanofluids on oil stripping and migration was analyzed to reveal the imbibition mechanism. This paper proposes a facile three-step method for synthesizing A-SiQDs, and also provides a novel nanomaterial for high efficiency imbibition in low-permeability reservoirs.

A series of composite membranes (sPBIp3-CAUX) are prepared by using modified sulfonated polybenzimidazole with an optimal side link grafting degree of 30% as a polymer matrix and then doping with CAU-10-H. The hydrophobic alkyl side chains and hydrophilic sulfonic acid groups easily form microphase separated structures due to the polarity difference, which is conducive to the enhancement of proton conductivity. The introduction of CAU-10-H into the polymer effectively prevents the passage of vanadium ions because the vanadium ion transport path becomes more tortuous. The sPBIp3-CAU2 membrane has low vanadium permeability (3.1 × 10–9 cm2 min–1) and excellent ion selectivity (9.16 × 106 S min cm–3). In addition, the sPBIp3-CAU2 membrane shows good cell performance at 60 mA cm–2 with CE of 93.32% and EE of 83.03% compared with those of Nafion 117.

Spontaneous imbibition is one of the important means to enhance oil recovery in low permeability reservoirs, and it has good field application effects. Through the interfacial tension (IFT), contact angle (CA), and adsorption experiments, the effects of SDBS surfactant on IFT and reservoir wettability were studied, and the adsorption rule of SDBS at the mineral surface was obtained. On this basis, the imbibition recovery and mechanism of cores with different permeability are studied. The study showed that in low permeability reservoir, gravity and capillary force are the main controlling factors of imbibition. In the early stage, gravity determines the recovery, because the imbibition rate is 2.75 times that dominated by capillary force. The capillary force can continue to produce oil in small pores, and the imbibition time is twice that of gravity, which determines the recovery in the late imbibition stage. Therefore, the synergistic effect of gravity and capillary force can optimize the imbibition recovery, in low permeability reservoirs. When the concentration of SDBS solution is CMC (0.1%), due to the mineral interface adsorbs, the capillary force decreases by 10.76%, and the adhesion work increases by 3.42 times, resulting in a decrease in the imbibition recovery. The imbibition driving force is different for different reservoir properties, which can be adjusted by adding a surfactant to change IFT and CA.

In view of the problems of low permeability, high oil viscosity and freezing point, and low productivity of single well in Luo 321 and Luo 36 blocks of Luojia Oilfield, the chemical viscosity-reducing cold production technology was studied. By analyzing the properties of crude oil, it is concluded that the reason for high viscosity and high freezing point is the high content of asphaltene, pectin, and wax. The viscosity is mainly affected by asphaltene; the wax precipitation point and pour point are mainly affected by the wax; and the solidification point is affected by the wax and asphaltene. The treatment idea of reducing viscosity and inhibiting wax is determined. By compounding the synthetic pour point depressant POA-VA and the viscosity reducer DBD-DOPAMA, the effect of reducing the viscosity and freezing point of crude oil was evaluated. PD-7 (POA-VA 40%, DBD-DOPAMA 50%, and P-10C 10%) system was selected as the optimal formula. When the concentration of the system is 10%, the viscosity reduction rate reaches 95.2%; the freezing point can reduce by 10.2°C; it has good oil sample adaptability, salinity resistance, and temperature resistance; and the oil washing rate can reach more than 60%. The oil displacement system was injected into the formation by means of multiconcentration and multislug and was applied in the field of Luo 321-2 Well. A total of 500 t of the oil displacement system was injected, and the effect of measures lasted for 400 days, with a cumulative oil increase of 883 t. It has been applied in different blocks 30 times and achieved a good field application effect.
