In this study, an InN photocathode consisting of ZnO nanowire arrays was proposed as a cathode for a photon-enhanced thermionic emission (PETE) solar energy converter. To optimize the performance of the device, we applied InN with a phonon bottleneck effect to the PETE converter. The theoretical model for PETE conversion with this complex photocathode was developed based on one-dimensional continuous equations and boundary conditions. We simulated and analyzed the conversion efficiency as a function of operating temperature, solar concentration, surface electron affinity , and operating voltage. Furthermore, we verified the feasibility of the proposed cathode through experiments on the current-voltage characteristics of the InN photocathode at different temperatures. The results of simulations and experiments indicated that InN is a promising photocathode material and may enable high-performance PETE devices.

The core-shell shaped Pt@CdS nanoparticles were successful anchored onto the surface of three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) SrTiO 3 with different pore sizes through a two-step photo-deposition method, to form a series of promising Z-scheme Pt@CdS/3DOM-SrTiO 3 composites for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from water splitting. The well-ordered inverse opal and ternary heterojunction structure of Pt@CdS/3DOM-SrTiO 3 composites were well illustrated through SEM and HRTEM characterizations. The Pt@CdS/3DOM-SrTiO 3 composites exhibited excellent efficiency for hydrogen evolution (57.9 mmol/g h) under UV–vis light irradiation. Through a series of controlled experiments and related characterizations, the notably enhanced catalytic performance of Pt@CdS/3DOM-SrTiO 3 composites can be mainly attributed to the synergistic effect of the slow photon enhancement of 3DOM-SrTiO 3 , which significantly promotes the light harvesting efficiency of photocatalysts, and the enhanced separation of photogenerated carriers because of the Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism. In addition, the ternary Pt@CdS/3DOM-SrTiO 3 catalysts are very stable and can be recycled five times without any decrease in photocatalytic activity.
Developing efficient low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (CO-SCR) catalysts remains a key challenge in reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Here, we report a photothermal-enhanced Rh–Mn/CoAlOx heterostructure catalyst that achieves excellent NO conversion (more than 90% at 140 °C) and N2 selectivity (>80%) under visible to infrared light irradiation. By integration of highly dispersed Rh units with Mn clusters onto a hydrotalcite-derived CoAlOx support, the catalyst exhibits synergistic light absorption and dynamic lattice oxygen migration capabilities. Through combined analysis using in situ DRIFTS, XAFS, XPS, EPR, and other techniques, we reveal that Mn doping induces numerous oxygen vacancies and promotes electron transfer between Rh and Mn, facilitating lattice oxygen activation via a mechanism similar to the Mars-van Krevelen mechanism. Light exposure reduces the activation energy and, according to Arrhenius analysis and NO-TPD results, accelerates the decomposition of nitrate intermediates and enhances the conversion rate of nitrous oxide to N2. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirm that N2O is more likely to be generated at the Rh–Mn interface, demonstrating its enhanced low-temperature activation ability for NO. This study innovatively enhances the catalytic performance of CO-SCR using light, providing a sustainable method for reducing low-energy NOx emissions.
