Interfacial solar-driven evaporation (ISE) is one of the most promising solutions for collecting fresh water, however, poor salt-resistance severely limits the long-term stability of solar evaporators. Here, highly salt-resistant solar evaporators for stable long-term desalination and water harvesting were fabricated by depositing silicone nanoparticles onto melamine sponge, and then modifying the hybrid sponge sequentially with polypyrrole and Au nanoparticles. The solar evaporators have a superhydrophilic hull for water transport and solar desalination, and a superhydrophobic nucleus for reducing heat loss. Spontaneous rapid salt exchange and reduction in salt concentration gradient were achieved due to ultrafast water transport and replenishment in the superhydrophilic hull with a hierachical micro-/nanostructure, which effectively prevents salt deposition during ISE. Consequently, the solar evaporators have long-term stable evaporation performance of 1.65 kg m -2 h −1 for 3.5 wt% NaCl solution under 1 sun illumination. Moreover, 12.87 kg m −2 fresh water was collected during consecutive 10 h ISE of 20 wt% brine under 1 sun without any salt precipitation. We believe that this strategy will shed a new light on the design of long-term stable solar evaporators for fresh water harvesting.

Given the ever-growing global water resource crisis, exploiting multifunctional materials featuring with high interfacial solar steam generation efficiency and good purification capability to achieving seawater desalination and wastewater treatment simultaneously are highly desired, yet it still remains a huge challenge to date. Herein, robust and multifunctional MXene/rGO (MRGA) and polydopamine & chitosan @ MRGA (CS&PDA@MRGA, CPM) three-dimensional composite aerogels with distinct interconnected cellular architecture were developed via a facile ice template-assisted chemical reduction self-assembly technology and subsequent sequential deposition modification. Due to the favorable graphene oxide-assisted assembly behavior, the resultant aerogels displayed a desirable mechanical robustness along with an excellent lightweight property. Benefiting from the strong electrostatic interaction deriving from aerogel surface moieties and dye molecules, MRGA-12 exhibited a prominent adsorption capability towards various dyes and achieved a superb adsorption capacity of up to 396.05 mg/g for malachite green (MG). Moreover, by virtue of the synergistic effect between the intentionally regulated low reduction degree of rGO and the integration of PDA and CS, CPM-12 achieved a dramatically reduced evaporation enthalpy of water from 2256 to 1617.18 J/g. Accordingly, this distinct feature resulted in an extraordinary solar-driven interfacial evaporation performance with a remarkable evaporation rate of 1.86 kg/m 2 /h and a high evaporation efficiency of 83.28 % under 1 sun illumination. Therefore, together with the terrific oil/water separation capability, these novel MXene-based aerogels hold a great potential for high-performance solar-driven interfacial evaporation and wastewater treatment.

Although solar steam generation (SSG) technology has shown promising advantages in the desalination of seawater, the treatment of organic pollutants in wastewater using SSG technology remains a challenge. Furthermore, the efficacy of evaporation materials is often hindered by the presence of organic pollutants, thereby limiting their practical application in the desalination of high-salinity wastewater. To address this issue, a synergistic approach combining photoevaporation and photocatalysis has been proposed as a potential solution. In this study, a novel rGO/MWCNTs aerogel (GMA) modified by photocatalyst g-C 3 N 4 was fabricated by hydrothermal synthesis in the integrated treatment of unconventional waters. At one solar radiation (1 kW·m −2 ), GMA achieved an evaporation rate of 2.07 kg·m −2 ·h −1 and a remarkable solar evaporation efficiency of 92.7 %. In addition, GMA demonstrated excellent desalination performance with over 98 % removal of waste metal ions from seawater and brackish water after desalination. First applied aerogel to the lithium chloride wastewater evaporation and concentration, achieving the concentration of lithium chloride wastewater from 700 mg/L to 5.18 g/L. Additionally, the coordinated photocatalysis of g-C 3 N 4 and rGO resulted in catalytic degradation rates of RhB and TB up to 91.6 % and 87.9 %, respectively. This study provides a new idea for SSG technology in high-salinity wastewater treatment .

The ocean contains abundant water and lithium resources, and extracting lithium from natural seawater is regarded as one of the most effective methods to address the shortage of lithium resources. Adsorption is a highly effective method for capturing lithium. However, traditional adsorption materials are hindered by low capacity, slow kinetics, and poor selectivity. Therefore, this paper developed a novel strategy of solar-driven for enhancing lithium-ion adsorption by synthesizing a new type of adsorbent (ACT-Li). This approach increases the temperature and lithium concentration in the micro-environment at the interface between the adsorbent and seawater, thereby improving both the lithium adsorption capacity and rate while simultaneously generating freshwater from seawater. Experimental results demonstrate that ACT-Li achieves a photothermal conversion efficiency of 97.61 % under single solar irradiation. Furthermore, light significantly increases both the diffusion rate and adsorption capacity of lithium ions, and compared to dark conditions, the adsorption capacity of lithium ions in ACT-Li increased by 35.28 %. In simulated seawater, the adsorption capacity for lithium ions can reach 31.83 mg/g, indicating strong selectivity of ACT-Li for lithium ions. The developed ACT-Li features a simple preparation process, high photothermal conversion efficiency, strong water transport capabilities, and high lithium extraction efficiency from seawater, providing a novel strategy for lithium extraction and opening new avenues for the utilization of marine resources.
