Advanced fluorescent anticounterfeiting technology has attracted widespread attention and encourages people to develop reliable luminescent materials with multiple colors and tunable luminescence. Here, novel nanocomposites composed of perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) and upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) are successfully designed and served as efficient anticounterfeiting inks. NaYF 4 :Yb/Tm@NaYF 4 :Yb core–shell UCNPs are formed first and then ultrasmall CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, and I or mixed halide systems Cl/Br and Br/I) PeQDs linked on the surface of UCNPs by seeded-growth strategy. UCNPs-CsPbX 3 nanocomposites can not only provide multicolor downconversion luminescence (DCL) under ultraviolet (UV) excitation, but also produce tunable upconversion luminescence (UCL) under 980 nm continuous-wave laser excitation. Finally, UCX 3 nanocomposites are mixed with prepolystyrene (PS) and the resulting UCX 3 /PS with excellent water stability and photostability can be employed as multicolor fluorescent ink for both writing and printing. These findings not only present a general method to fabricate novel nanocomposites combining both advantages of UCNPs and PeQDs, but also provide insight for the practical application in the field of anticounterfeiting.

Achieving stimulus-responsive ultralong room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) in organic materials especially with full-color tunable emissions is attractive and important but rarely reported. Here, a strategy was reported to realize stimulus-responsive RTP effect with color-tunable emissions by using water as solvent in the preparation process without any organic solvent through covalent linkage of arylboronic acids with different π conjugations and polymer matrix of polyvinyl alcohol. The yielded polymer films exhibit outstanding RTP performance (2.43 s). Furthermore, an excitation-dependent RTP film was obtained, and the afterglow color changes from blue to green, then to red as the excitation wavelength increases. The RTP property of all the above materials is sensitive to water and heat stimuli, because the rigidity of the system could be broken by water. Last, they were successfully applied in a multilevel information encryption and multicolor paper and ink.

Light-harvesting is an indispensable process in photosynthesis, and researchers have been exploring various structural scaffolds to create artificial light-harvesting systems. However, achieving high donor/acceptor ratios for efficient energy transfer remains a challenge as excitons need to travel longer diffusion lengths within the donor matrix to reach the acceptor. Here, we report a polymeric supramolecular column-based light-harvesting platform inspired by the natural light-harvesting of purple photosynthetic bacteria to address this issue. The supramolecular column is designed as a discotic columnar liquid crystalline polymer and acts as the donor, with the acceptor intercalated within it. The modular columnar design enables an ultrahigh donor/acceptor ratio of 20000:1 and an antenna effect exceeding 100. Moreover, the spatial confinement within the supramolecular columns facilitates control over the energy transfer process, enabling dynamic full-color tunable emission for information encryption applications with spatiotemporal regulation security.

The luminescent self-healing materials have a significant prospect in optical device applications such as biosensing, multicolor displays, and high-level anti-counterfeiting. Herein, a novel printable, room-temperature self-healing and full-color-tunable luminescent composites were developed through the noncovalent binding of physically cross-linked p(HFBM- co -SBMA)/EMITFSI and excitation-orthogonalized RGB-switchable UCNPs. According to a strategy of Selective photon capture (SPC), the RGB-switchable core-sextuple-shell UCNPs were first established for red/green/blue-switchable luminescence under three different excitations (980/808/1550 nm) and even full-color output through the combination of 980/808/1550 nm light. The copolymer p(HFBM- co -SBMA), pre-synthesized via free radical polymerization, was incorporated with ionic liquid EMITFSI to formulate room-temperature self-healing material owing to ion–dipole interactions between EMITFSI and p(HFBM- co -SBMA). Afterward, the integration of 30 wt% EMITFSI copolymer and fluothane-modified UCNPs resulted in the formation of the final full-color-tunable luminescent self-healing composites, which not only exhibited superior Young’s modulus and healing efficiency than some previously reported room-temperature self-healing materials, but also realized full-color-tunable emissions under ternary 980/808/1550 nm excitations. Significantly, the luminescent self-healing composites, which also exhibited colorless character and high transmittance, could be employed as printable inks for making various luminescent patterns (including clock, flower, and QR code) on flexible substrates via convenient and cost-effective screen-printing technique. As the results of proofs of concept, these luminescent patterns displayed fantastic viewing capability and highly secured property, which showed enormous potential of the proposed luminescent self-healing composites in flexible panchromatic display and high-security-level anti-counterfeiting. To our knowledge, this work provides the strategy for constructing full-color-tunable self-healing luminescent composites for the first time. Undoubtedly, the well-designed luminescent self-healing materials will provide new insights and guidance for exploiting the new generation of flexible optical devices, especially multicolor displays and anti-counterfeiting devices.
