Green construction of eco-friendly hydrophilic porous teamed boronate affinity hydrogels for highly specific separation of naringin under physiological pH

Shucheng Liu,Zhi Hu,Xuan Zhang,Xingcheng Yan,Hongxiang Ou

Green, high efficient and sustainable management of secondary high-value resources such as agricultural waste has significant economically, scientific and environmentally beneficial value for the future human development, but it remains a serious challenge. Some tasks persist in industrial-scale continuous separation processes while simultaneously optimizing sorbents structure and separation efficiency. Herein, a novel green eco-friendly porous boronate affinity hydrogels (AOO-PAM@CNCs-DB) were fabricated based on Pickering emulsion microreactors for the specific enrichment of flavoniods. In the emulsion system, the Artemisia argyi oil (AAO) is one of the main natural component of Artemisia, which acts as oil phase can effectively reduce the environmental pollution in the emulsion polymerization process. In addition, the emulsion stabilized particles with B-N recognizing sites based on cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs-DB) acts as specific recognition unit and physical sacrificial cross-linking network, which significantly enhancing the mechanical properties and accurate recognizing efficiency in real coarse samples. Benefiting the advantages of teamed boronate affinity, the AOO-PAM@CNCs-DB hydrogels possessed excellent recognition capabilities and rapid mass transfer at the physiological conditions. The maximum adsorption capacity of AOO-PAM@CNCs-DB hydrogels towards NRG were up to 51.54 μmol g −1 . Further, the AOO-PAM@CNCs-DB hydrogels had excellent selective performance and reusability, and the enrichment performance decreased by 8.27 % after 6 cycles. Meanwhile, the AOO-PAM@CNCs-DB hydrogels can be effectively extracted and enriched NRG with a purity of 92.47 %. This work provides a simple and reliable basis for the preparation of multifunctional hydrogels and holds promise for practical application in the treatment of agricultural wastewater containing flavoniods.

Newly discovered cyanobacteria Nostoc sp. PCC7120 for high efficiency biodegradation of thiamethoxam: Photosynthesis response, enzyme strategies, and molecular mechanisms

Shiye Zhu,Jiale Zhang,Anwei Chen,Youzheng Chai,Jianhua Zeng,Gen Lu,Ma Bai,Jihai Shao,Liang Peng,Si Luo

Agricultural expansion has led to the accumulation of neonicotinoid pesticides in water and soil, which are habitats for widespread cyanobacteria. However, the cyanobacteria-neonicotinoids interaction mechanisms remain unclear. This study first explores Thiamethoxam (THX) biodegradation by Nostoc sp. PCC7120, elucidating cytochrome P450 (CYP450)-mediated THX metabolism. Nostoc sp. PCC7120 could remove THX completely within 6 days mainly via biodegradation (75 %). While THX stimulates cell growth, evidence (damaged thylakoid membranes, lowered electron transfer efficiency, reduced photosynthetic pigments, and altered key gene expression) shows it disrupts photosynthesis. Furthermore, THX degradation involved ring opening, nitrate reduction, de-chlorination, and N -dealkylation; molecular dynamics simulations revealed THX stably binding (32.38 kcal/mol) to CYP450′s active site and primary degradation via hydroxylation and de-chlorination. Ecotoxicity assessments show desmethyl and urea metabolites are more toxic to non-target organisms and humans than the parent compound. This study elucidates THX removal mechanisms and environmental fate, highlighting cyanobacteria’s potential in bioremediation for agricultural wastewater.
