Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disrupter in environments which can induce abnormal differentiation of reproductive organs by interfering with the action of endogenous gonadal steroid hormones. In this work, the bisphenol A (BPA) molecularly-imprinted microspheres (MIMS) were prepared and used as biomimetic recognition material for in situ adsorption and selective chemiluminescence (CL) determination of BPA. Through non-covalent interaction, the BPA-MIMS was successfully prepared by Pickering emulsion polymerization using a BPA template, 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) cross-linker, and a SiO2dispersion agent. The characterization of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-disperse spectroscopy (EDS) showed that the obtained MIMS possessed a regular spherical shape and narrow diameter distribution (25–30 μm). The binding experiment indicated BPA could be adsorbed in situ on the MIMS-packing cell with an apparent maximum amountQmaxof 677.3 μg g−1. Then BPA could be selectively detected by its sensitive inhibition effect on the CL reaction between luminol and periodate (KIO4), and the inhibition mechanism was discussed to reveal the CL reaction process. The CL intensity was linear to BPA concentrations in two ranges, respectively from 0.5 to 1.5 μg mL−1with a detection limit of 8.0 ng mL−1(3σ), and from 1.5 to 15 μg mL−1with a limit of detection (LOD) of 80 ng mL−1(3σ). The BPA-MIPMS showed excellent selectivity for BPA adsorption and the proposed CL method has been successfully applied to BPA determination in environmental water samples. Keywords:molecularly imprinted microsphere (MIMS);bisphenol A;in situ adsorption;chemiluminescence determination;selectivity

A kind of novel three-dimensionally ordered macroporous molecularly imprinted microspheres (3DMIMs) had been developed for selective recognition and separation of quinine based on the combination of colloidal crystal templating method and molecular imprinting technique. The 3DMIMs were derived from the spherical silica colloidal crystal involving a four-step templating process including infiltration of imprinted precursors, sealing of polyethylene glycol, initiation polymerization, as well as final removal of the colloidal crystal and imprinting template. The resulted 3DMIMs consisted of a three-dimensional, highly ordered and interconnected macroporous arrays with nanoscale thickness of polymer wall, in which numerous imprinted cavities were obtained. The kinetic and isothermal adsorption behavior of the 3DMIMs were investigated in detail. The results showed the 3DMIMs had a rapider mass transfer process, higher adsorption capacities and recognition specificity toward quinine compared with the traditional bulk imprinted polymers. In addition, the 3DMIMs exhibited obvious high permeability and low backpressure at high flow rate as column packing. Extraction experiments showed that the 3DMIMs could effectively separate quinine and its diastereoisomer, quinidine, directly from crude cinchona bark extract with a satisfactory selectivity and elution recovery.

In this work, a new and simple method was developed for the synthesis of uncovered and high-selectivity spiramycin-based molecularly imprinted microspheres (SP-MIMs) by Pickering emulsion polymerization using spiramycin as templates. And surprisingly the solid particles were absent on the surface of imprinted microspheres, which can be ascribed to the Ganoderma lucidum spores (GLS): they were firstly selected to be the stabilizers for the Pickering emulsion in this new strategy. Through a series of adsorption experiments, the uncovered SP-MIMs were proven to possess more excellent selective recognition and removal ability for template SP in aqueous solution. And SP-MIMs could be reused for many times without significant loss of adsorption capacity, indicating the satisfactory regeneration performance. Therefore, SP-MIMs can be employed as a promising adsorbent for the selective removal of SP from aqueous media, and this strategy will contribute to overcoming the shortcomings of stabilizer particles on the surface of the as-prepared imprinting microspheres, because these solid particles lack the special selective recognition activity of template molecules, and may disturb the adsorption effect of imprinting microspheres.

Dummy molecularly imprinted microspheres with danthron as template were synthesized and their performance was evaluated. Accelerated solvent extraction can rapidly and effectively remove template molecules from the microspheres. The microspheres were applied as a specific sorbent for solid-phase extraction of six anthraquinones from slimming tea, showing excellent affinity and high selectivity to danthron and the target analytes. The molecular recognition mechanisms were discussed by the experimental validation with IR spectroscopy. The sample was treated using accelerated solvent extraction followed by dummy molecularly imprinted microspheres solid-phase extraction. Under the optimized ultra high performance liquid chromatographic conditions, the six target analytes can be baseline separated in 8 min, and good linearity was obtained in a range of 0.1–40 μg/mL with the correlation coefficient ( r 2 ) of ≥0.9998. The method limit of quantification was in a range of 1–2 mg/kg, it can ensure analysis of anthraquinones at mg/kg level. The intra- and interday precision (RSD, n = 6) for the analysis of the six analytes in a slimming tea was less than 4.5 and 5.4%, respectively. The developed method can be applied for the selective extraction, effective separation, and rapid determination of six anthraquinones in slimming tea.

In this work, a facile and general protocol to synthesize molecularly imprinted microspheres (MIMs), combining reverse atom transfer radical polymerization with precipitation polymerization, is described. Well-tuned surface properties in the as-obtained microspheres were achieved through the “living” nature of the active ATRP-initiators present on the surface in order to further functionalize the microspheres with hydrophilic poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) brushes. The presence of a PHEMA shell on the MIMs was confirmed by SEM, FT-IR and water contact angle studies, and some quantitative information is also provided. Batch adsorption experiments were carried out in pure water to investigate the equilibrium, kinetics and selectivity properties of the imprinted materials. The adsorption data of the ungrafted imprinted materials for sulfamethazine (SMZ) were fitted well to the Freundlich isotherm model. However, after grafting, the Langmuir isotherm fits the data better, mainly because of the changes to the surface properties that increase the hydrophilicity and suppress the hydrophobically driven non-specific interactions. The imprinted microspheres exhibit a large adsorption capacity, and are also specific to SMZ but non-specific to other antibiotics. The obtained materials also show rapid kinetics and great reusability and stability, displaying potential for practical applications for the selective removal of pollutants from aqueous environments.
