Herein, the protective performance of a new triazole inhibitor for carbon steel was studied by electrochemical methods. Potentiodynamic polarization curves showed that the anti-corrosion efficiency improved with increasing concentrations of the inhibitor and the results show that it is 22 times corrosion resistance efficiency for inhibitor compared to bare aggressive solution. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that the film adsorbed well on the carbon steel surface. The scanning vibrating electrode technique demonstrated the corrosion process of carbon steel with and without the protection of inhibitor. Thus, a mechanism for the corrosion process was proposed and the behavior of carbon steel under the protection of the inhibitor was discussed.

The effective adsorption of oxygen (O 2 ) molecules over photocatalysts is a critical step in promoting the performance of photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production. However, g-C 3 N 4 usually features a Yeager-type (side-on) adsorption configuration of O 2 molecules, which causes the breaking of O–O bonds and severely hinders the H 2 O 2 production activity. Herein, we synthesized an oxygen-vacancy-rich TiO 2– x /g-C 3 N 4 step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction to regulate the oxygen adsorption configuration and improve the 2e – ORR selectivity of H 2 O 2 production. In-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (in-situ XPS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the S-scheme heterojunction is formed between TiO 2– x and g-C 3 N 4 . The difference between their Fermi levels leads to the electron flow from g-C 3 N 4 to TiO 2– x , which increases the electron-deficient sites in g-C 3 N 4 . As a result, the cleavage of O–O bonds on the surface of g-C 3 N 4 is avoided and the oxygen adsorption configuration is tuned from Yeager-type to Pauling-type (end-on). Consequently, the photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production rate is dramatically improved to 1780.3 μmol h –1 , which is about 5 times higher than that of pristine g-C 3 N 4 . This work paves a new way to tailor the oxygen adsorption configuration by rationally designing S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology has been extensively employed for the detection of liquid samples in the biomedical field due to high sensitivity and non-invasive characteristics. However, quantitative SERS detection is hindered by sophisticated instrumentation and complex calibration procedures, while qualitative analyses often provide insufficient concentration information for clinical diagnosis. Herein, a concentration indicator kit based on dandelion propagation-inspired SERS strategy is developed for the semi-quantitative detection of drug residues in urine. This strategy achieves significant signal enhancement through the synergistic effects of optimized hotspot construction and molecular adsorption, resulting in an analytical enhancement factor of 2.503 × 10⁵, which is 4143 times greater than that of silver nanoparticles. An innovative phenomenon termed the “concentration indicator” is discovered, wherein the SERS signal is dramatically enhanced at specific indicated concentrations while remaining weak at adjacent concentrations. The practical utility of this kit is validated through the detection of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole in urine samples. The kit exhibits excellent performance in semi-quantitative detection of standard solutions and simulated samples at high, indicated, and low concentrations. The concentration indicator opens new avenues for the development of simplified and reliable SERS-based detection, offering a promising platform for bedside testing in medical diagnostics.

Graphical Thiol/thiophenol molecules can modulate the plasmon-mediated silver oxidation. Compared with molecules having electron donating groups, molecules having electron accepting groups accelerate the silver oxidation dramatically. The modulation of silver oxidation is attributed to the modulation of the charge separation between the Ag NPs and the adsorbed thiol or thiophenol molecules. Surface plasmon can trigger or accelerate many photochemical reactions, especially useful in energy and environmental industries. Recently, molecular adsorption has proven effective in modulating plasmon-mediated photochemistry, however the realized chemical reactions are limited and the underlying mechanism is still unclear. Herein, by using in situ dark-field optical microscopy, the plasmon-mediated oxidative etching of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), a typical hot-hole-driven reaction, is monitored continuously and quantitatively. The presence of thiol or thiophenol molecules is found essential in the silver oxidation. In addition, the rate of silver oxidation is modulated by the choice of different thiol or thiophenol molecules. Compared with the molecules having electron donating groups, the ones having electron accepting groups accelerate the silver oxidation dramatically. The thiol/thiophenol modulation is attributed to the modulation of the charge separation between the Ag NPs and the adsorbed thiol or thiophenol molecules. This work demonstrates the great potential of molecular adsorption in modulating the plasmon-mediated photochemistry, which will pave a new way for developing highly efficient plasmonic photocatalysts.

Acanthopanax senticosusis an essential medicinal herb in traditional Chinese medicine, with its pharmacological properties largely attributed to bioactive flavonoids. The types and amounts of these flavonoids act as vital quality markers for both the raw materials and the resultant products. In this work, we introduce a TiO2@AgNP nanocomposite designed as a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor aimed at the preliminary quantification and identification of flavonoids. This is achieved by leveraging the effective molecular adsorption properties of TiO2alongside the ‘hot spots’ generated by AgNPs. By optimizing SERS performance through adjustment of the molar ratio between TiO2and Ag, we can quantitatively evaluate four flavonoids—luteolin, kaempferol, quercetin, and rutin—with low detection concentrations of 10−6M, 10−5M, 5 × 10−6M, and 10−6M, respectively. Additionally, we observe a nearly linear relationship between the SERS signals and the flavonoid concentrations, allowing for dual or multiplex analysis of these compounds. Furthermore, we successfully differentiatedAcanthopanax senticosussamples from six different geographical regions in China based on the detection of significant flavonoid constituents. This serves as a proof of concept for practical applications that can enhance the identification and distinction of traditional Chinese medicine, as well as assess quality and medicinal efficacy.
