A nitrogen-doped carbon material with uniformed micro-porosity structure was synthesized by carbonized a copolymer made with a molecular-scale template, octa(aminophenyl)silsesquioxane, and phenolic resol and the silica domain removing. High nitrogen content as well as unimodal micropore with narrow size distribution were achieved. This nitrogen doped well-defined microporous carbon exhibited high electrochemical hydrogen storage and superior stability over those in regular active carbon material .

The synthesis of noble-metal-free recyclable catalysts with prominent catalytic performance for the complete hydrogen production from hydrazine borane (N 2 H 4 BH 3 , HB) is of great significance in achieving a hydrogen economy-based society. Herein, Raney Ni is synthesized using a rapidly quenched aluminum–nickel alloy under a typical alkali leaching condition and is used to catalytically convert hydrogen of N 2 H 4 BH 3 to H 2 via hydrolyzing BH 3 groups and decomposing the N 2 H 4 moiety in alkaline conditions. It is the first report of a noble-metal-free catalyst achieving a complete production of hydrogen from N 2 H 4 BH 3 at room temperature. This noble-metal-free catalyst might tremendously broaden the actual utilization of HB as a promising chemical hydrogen storage material. In addition, such a simple strategy can also be expanded to design and synthesize other porous metals for more applications.

We describe our recent progress on a novel method to prepare Ti 1.4 V 0.6 Ni hydrogen storage alloy covered with nanostructured Co 3 O 4 by utilizing zelolitic imidazolate framework 67 (ZIF-67) as the template. Ti 1.4 V 0.6 Ni@C@Co 3 O 4 composite is prepared through a dopamine self-polymerization and a facile precipitation reaction with the subsequent thermal treatment. This specific composite structure combines the high conductivity of carbon together with the promising catalytic property of nanostructured Co 3 O 4 , therefore the enhanced electrochemical activity and stability are realized. As a result, Ti 1.4 V 0.6 Ni@C@Co 3 O 4 composite electrode possesses a capacity conservation rate of 56.1% after 300 charging/discharging cycles, remarkably larger than that of Ti 1.4 V 0.6 Ni (25.3%). Moreover, a study of the kinetics demonstrates that nanostructured Co 3 O 4 coating accelerates the charge-transfer reaction of the electrode. These results prove that coating with carbon and nanostructured Co 3 O 4 is a potential method for enhancing electrochemical hydrogen storage properties of hydrogen storage alloys.
Since dimethylamine-borane ($ 463/kg) is much cheaper than ammonia borane ($ 13,921/kg), the hydrolysis of dimethylamine-borane catalyzed by transition metal nanocatalysts has long been proposed as a viable opportunity for hydrogen evolution, but it often required noble metals nanocomposites, such as Pt, Rh and Ru. Herein, we first report the ultrafine non-noble metal nanoparticles supported on MoS 2 nanosheet (including Fe/MoS 2 , Co/MoS 2 , Ni/MoS 2 and Cu/MoS 2 ) for the H 2 evolution from hydrolysis of dimethyl amine-borane (DMAB). Among them, Co/MoS 2 is found to be more efficient than others for the H 2 evolution, with the TOF of 374 mol (H2) •mol cat −1 •h −1 . Kinetic isotopic experiment and the tandem reaction have confirmed that H 2 evolution by using H atoms in water.
