Electrochemical extraction of uranium from seawater is a promising strategy for the sustainable supply of nuclear fuel, whereas the current progress suffers from the co-deposition of impurities. Herein, we construct a synergistic coordination-reduction interface in CMOS@NSF, achieving electrochemical extraction of black UO 2 product from seawater. The internal sulfur of CoMoOS tailors the electron distribution, resulting in the electron accumulation of terminal O sites for strong uranyl binding. Meanwhile, the interfacial connection of CoMoOS with Ni 3 S 2 accelerates the electron transfer and promoted the reductive properties. Such synergistic coordination-reduction interface ensures the formation and preservation of tetravalent uranium, preventing the co-deposition of alkalis in crystalline transformation. From natural seawater, CMOS@NSF exhibits an electrochemical extraction capacity of 2.65 mg g −1 d −1 with black UO 2 solid products as final products. This work provides an efficient strategy for the electrochemical uranium extraction from seawater with low impurities.

Zwitterionic/anionic surfactant system is usually employed in the field of enhancing oil recovery attributing to its high interfacial properties and low adsorption capacity. In this work, an amino acid surfactant triethyltetramine sodium lauryl glutamate (TFDA) with the isoelectric point around 5 was synthesized. The synergistic interfacial adsorption behaviour between TFDA and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) was investigated. The TFDA/SDBS binary system displayed ultra-low interfacial tension (IFT), high emulsification capability, emulsion pH-response behaviour, high stability in rock wettability alternation and low adsorption capacity on solid. By calculating interaction parameters, analysing work of adhesion and fitting with Langmuir adsorption model, the synergistic interfacial adsorption behaviour of binary system at oil-water, oil-hosting solid and water-solid interfaces were deeply discussed. The results indicated that TFDA and SDBS molecules formed tightly adsorption layer on oil-water interface, which lead to the rapid decrease in IFT. Meanwhile, the ultra-low IFT and strong interaction of TFDA/SDBS binary system reduced the work of adhesion for oil- solid interface, thus the binary system can easily mobilize the oil film from the solid surface. When the solid surface is exposed in the TFDA/SDBS solution, TFDA and SDBS molecules can remain the molar ratio around 1:1 and maintain better interfacial interaction in oil-water interface during the surfactants adsorbing in the solid due to the lower adsorption capacity of TFDA and SDBS. Furthermore, stability of the emulsion stabilized by binary system could be adjusted by varying the pH values. These findings would provide a potential strategy for designing amino acid/anionic surfactant binary systems.

The design and synthesis of efficient, inexpensive, and long-term stable heterostructured electrocatalysts with high-density dislocations for hydrogen evolution reaction in alkaline media and seawater are still a great challenge. An amorphous/crystalline/amorphous sandwiched structure with abundant dislocations were synthesized through thermal phosphidation strategies. The dislocations play an important role in the hydrogen evolution reactions. Copious dislocation defects, combined with cracks, and the synergistic interfacial effect between crystalline phase and amorphous phase regulate the electronic structure of electrocatalyst, provide more active sites, and thus endow the electrocatalysts with excellent catalytic activity under alkaline water and seawater. The overpotentials of P–NiMoO4 at 10 mA/cm2 in 1 M KOH aqueous solution and seawater are 45 and 75 mV, respectively. Additionally, the P–NiMoO4 electrocatalyst exhibits long-term stability over 100 h. This study provides a simple approach for synthesizing amorphous/crystalline/amorphous sandwiched non-noble-metal electrocatalysts with abundant dislocations for hydrogen evolution reaction.

Improving the sulfur content in the cathode is essential for achieving high-energy-density all-solid-state lithium–sulfur batteries (ASSLSBs). However, the complex multiinterfaces, akin to the short wooden planks that consist of the cask, severely limit the performance of ASSLSBs with high sulfur content. Since singular approaches fail to optimize these interfaces simultaneously, we propose a synergistic approach using a dual-doped sulfide solid electrolyte (Y2S3 and LiI) and an SbSn alloy sulfur host in this work. The incorporation of Y2S3 in the solid electrolyte serves to improve the electrolyte–electrolyte interfaces and enhance the ionic conductivity, while the inclusion of LiI helps stabilize the electrolyte–anode interface and suppress dendrite formation. Meanwhile, the SbSn alloy sulfur host facilitates the transfer of Li+ at the electrolyte–cathode interfaces. Consequently, the solid–solid interfaces are significantly improved, leading to impressive specific capacities in ASSLSBs with high sulfur content (>44% in the cathode composite) at room temperature (1163.5 mAh g–1) and at 60 °C (1408.7 mAh g–1) during the 50th cycle at 0.05C. This work presents a promising strategy for achieving practical high-performance ASSLSBs.

The pursuit of high-performance and robust hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts tailored for anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) is crucial yet profoundly challenging. Here, we engineer a metallic heterointerface by embedding ultrafine Os nanoparticles within vertically aligned NiCo alloy nanoflower arrays anchored on the macroporous Ni foam scaffold (Os@NiCo/NF), achieving synergistic modulation of interfacial electronic states and water microenvironment. In-situ Raman spectroscopy unveils that the Os-NiCo interface dynamically restructures interfacial water networks, transitioning from tetrahedrally coordinated water to free water, which enhances reactant accessibility and accelerates water dissociation. Theoretical calculations demonstrate that metal-support interactions induce charge redistribution, synergistically reducing the water dissociation barrier while optimizing hydrogen adsorption energy. When Os@NiCo/NF is deployed as the cathode in the AEMWE device, it achieves an industrial-relevant current density of 1.4 A cm −2 at a voltage of 2 V, while consistently maintaining steady operation at a current density of 500 mA cm −2 for 120 h. This work presents a novel perspective on synergistic interface engineering, unlocking the efficiency potential of the next generation electrocatalysts.
