Inspired by the poison dart frog skin that secretes functional liquid after being stimulated, a liquid-infused double-layer surface (LDS) is designed by integrating superhydrophobic layer with liquid-infused layer. Both layers generate the wettability gradient to drive tiny condensed droplet into the liquid-infused layer, and the liquid-infused layer would effectively lower the freezing point for nonicing. Especially, the internal wetting transport ability appears between both layers, greatly reducing icing possibility of the surface, i.e., the tiny condensed droplets in the micropores can be transported to liquid-infused layer with nonfrozen properties. Thus, the surface of LDS thereby keeps superhydrophobic property for antiicing and antifrosting in a long term. This design makes LDS achieve excellent antiicing and antifrosting properties against cold environments with high humidity. And it may be significant for such materials to be extended into some realms, e.g., antiicing in aviation and power for long-term durability in cold and high moisture environment.

This paper reported the double-layered surface decoration for aluminum flakes by coating a zinc aluminum phosphate passive film, followed by fabricating a phytic acid–aluminum complex sealing film. The chemical compositions and structures of surface-decorated aluminum flakes were characterized by Fourier -transform infrared, X –ray photoelectron , and energy-dispersive X –ray spectroscopy and their morphology and double-layered structure were confirmed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy . The surface-decorated aluminum flakes not only show excellent dispersibility in water due to the enhanced hydrophilicity , but also exhibit good corrosion resistance and chemical stability against water. Most of all, the double-layered surface decoration leads to an improvement in optical performance of coating surface such as glossiness, flop index and distinctness of image compared to the single-layered one when the surface-decorated aluminum flakes are applied for waterborne coatings. The surface-decorated aluminum flakes developed by this work can well serve as a good flaky aluminum pigment for high-performance waterborne coatings.

Previous research had proved that molecular imprinted polymers can be used as separation material for removing Naringin (NRG) from agricultural pomelo wastes effectively. But the adsorption amounts of NRG molecules from traditional MIPs was quite low by using boronic acid as functional monomer because of single affinity interaction. Therefore, we developed the new combination of bifunctional monomers (i.e. low pKa boronate affinity monomer 2,4-difluoro-3-formylphenylboronic acid and dopamine) based on cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) mixed with polymerized high internal phase emulsion (polyHIPE, PH) through an double layer surface imprinted method. The introduction of polyethylenimine (PEI) can offer abundant anchor units for the growth of more anchor sites to immobilization template molecules. Importantly, largely improved selective adsorption amounts (50.79 μmol g −1 ), which may be attribute to the fabrication of the uniform growth of double imprinted layers onto the polydopamine (PDA)/boronic acid-based surfaces. In addition, the resulting double recognition molecular imprinted polymers (MIPs) based on hypercrosslinked PH (DR-HCLPH@MIPs) not only exhibited fast adsorption kinetic of NRG molecule, but also possessed excellent selectivity and high adsorption capacities at physiological pH. Meanwhile, the coarse NRG from pomelo waste can be high selectively extracted to 94.74%. Overall, this study provides a versatile approach for fabrication of the sandwich-biscuit-like double imprinting layer porous MIPs for precise identification and ultrafast transport separation of NRG from complex samples.
