With tunable and exceptional optical properties, quantum dots (QDs) have shown promise as valuable luminescent materials for various visual applications. However, achieving the economical and facile manufacturing of QD patterns still remains a challenge for high-resolution applications. QD arrays with pixel sizes down to micrometers are difficult to achieve with conventional techniques. In this work, a low-cost dewetting-assisted self-assembly approach for patterning QDs was demonstrated using oleophilic/oleophobic patterns on different substrates treated by lithography and surface modification. High-resolution ordered droplet arrays of UV-curable QD ink were formed on prepatterned templates. Resultant large-area QD arrays with a pixel size down to 5 μm exhibited a high resolution of 2540 pixels per inch (PPI). Furthermore, dual-color microarrays with a resolution exceeding 4 kPPI were achieved by transfer-printing red and green QD microdot patterns onto a receiving substrate. High-resolution fluorescent anticounterfeiting labels were then successfully demonstrated, implying an avenue for low-cost high-resolution QD patterns for luminescent applications, such as optical anticounterfeiting, information encryption, and displays.

Perovskite quantum dots (QDs), with outstanding properties, including tunable emissions, high color purity, and low cost solution processability, have become promising candidates in light-emitting applications. However, the inherent instability issue strongly restricts further development and commercialization of light-emitting devices based on perovskite QDs. As well investigated in conventional QDs, the construction of QDs with core–shell structure is recognized as an effective way to improve the stability and optimize luminescent properties at the same time. Inspired by the unique structure diversity of perovskite materials, 2D/3D FAPbBr3@GA2PbBr4 QDs are proposed and fabricated through a one-step phase transfer enhanced emulsion synthesis. By systematically tuning the ratio between GABr and FABr as well as a combined analysis with X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, absorption and photoluminescence spectrum characterizations, a well-defined core–shell structure is demonstrated for FAPbBr3@GA2PbBr4 QDs under an appropriate ratio of GABr/FABr. Compared to the original QDs, the as fabricated core–shell QDs exhibit an enhanced exciton binding energy and improved stability under heat, light, and moisture exposure. Moreover, phosphor converted light-emitting diodes based on the core–shell QDs are also fabricated with a much improved device performance than that of QDs without a core–shell structure, proving the superiority of FAPbBr3@GA2PbBr4 QDs in light-emitting applications.

Benefit from their near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY), narrow emission band, and widely tunable bandgap, metal halide perovskites have shown promising in light-emitting applications. Despite such promise, how to facile, environmentally-friendly, and large-scale prepare solid metal halide perovskite with high emission and stability remains a challenging. Herein, we demonstrate a convenient and environmentally-friendly method for the mass synthesis of solid CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 composites using high-power ultrasonication. Adjusting key experimental parameters, bright emitting CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 solids with a maximum PL QY of 71% were obtained within 30 min. XRD, SEM, TEM, Abs/PL, XPS, and lifetime characterizations provide solid evidence for forming CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 composites. Taking advantage of these composites, the photostability, thermostability, and polar solvent stability of CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 are much improved compared to CsPbBr3. We further demonstrated CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 use in flexible/stretchable film and high-power WLEDs. After being subjected to bending, folding, and twisting, the film retains its bright emission and exhibits good resistance to mechanical deformation. Additionally, our WLEDs display a superior, durable high-power-driving capability, operating currents up to 300 mA and maintaining high luminous intensity for 50 hours. Such highly emissive and stable metal halide perovskites make them promising for solid-state lighting, lasing, and flexible/stretchable display device applications.

Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) have demonstrated great potential in emerging display technologies. However, the practical application of PNCs is hindered by the inherent instability of their ionic surface. Here, we proposed a surface modification approach to enhance the stability of CsPbBr3 PNCs by postsynthetic treatment with aluminum phenylbutyrate (Al(PA)3). Our study reveals that Al(PA)3 displaces ammonium ligands and binds tightly on surface halide, providing excellent air and moisture resistance while preserving a high quantum efficiency of 81.6%. The modified PNCs maintain a constant photoluminescence intensity under continuous UV light illumination for 500 h. Additionally, the Al(PA)3 ligand is compatible with styrene, enabling homogeneous dispersion of PNCs in polystyrene matrices to form bright and uniform PNC–PS thin films. We demonstrated the application of the composite films for display backlighting, which exhibits a wide color gamut of 125% NTSC. The result highlights the potential of AlPA-modified PNCs in light-emitting and other optoelectronic devices.
