Achieving multifunctional integration with comfortability and durability comparable to conventional textiles is one of the ultimate pursuits of personal protective wearables. Herein, a multi-protective textile with breathable, moisture-permeable and washable properties is reported, which is realized by cross-linking of electroactive MXene@gallic acid (MG) with the cationized cotton. Cationic modification reduces the charge repulsion between MG and cotton fibers, and promotes the deposition of conductive media on textile surface. After borax (STB) cross-linking, the obtained textile exhibits superior service stability and can be subjected to conventional washing, exhibiting antioxidant stability during natural storage. Importantly, the cross-linked textile inherits the properties of good breathability, softness and bendability as the original fabric. With the outstanding conductivity (260 mS/cm) and high absorptivity of the solar spectrum (0.920), the textile was used for Joule heating and solar heating, demonstrating their potential in the field of thermal management. Meanwhile, the textile demonstrates excellent antibacterial activity against Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus , and maintained satisfactory antibacterial effect (>90 %) even after ten washing cycles. This facile strategy for fabricating personal protective textiles, based on cross-linking cotton fiber with electroactive mediators offers favorable durability, comfortability and multifunctionality, providing a scalable and sustainable approach for manufacturing multi-protective wearables.

Flexible wearable devices, which combine lightness, comfort, and intelligence, are developing rapidly in the fields of health monitoring, human–computer interaction, energy, and biomedicine. There is also a growing demand for a low-cost, washable, and flexible wearable device to meet the requirements of resource conservation and sustainability. In this study, graphene nanosheets (GNSs)/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) washable conductive ink was prepared by liquid-phase exfoliation using graphite, MWCNTs, silane coupling agents, and high-adhesion resin. Its square resistance (Rsq) is only 26 Ω/sq (25 μm), and it can keep the resistance change within 10% after 5 simulated machine washes (1 h per wash). In addition, the printed electrothermal fabric (4 × 4 cm) can reach 54 °C at a low voltage of 5 V and consumes only 1.25 W. After 5 washes, the saturation temperature can still reach 50 °C, enabling insulation on the surface of the body and helping to create a smarter and more convenient personal thermal management system.

Limitations of current electronic textiles (e-textiles), including poor washability, instability, and inferior sensing capability, are concerns hindering their broad and practical applications in personal health care management, virtual games, sports, and more. Here, we report an RGO/PANI e-textile via alternative coatings of in situ reduced graphene oxides (RGO) and in situ polymerized polyaniline (PANI), establishing a laminated structure on a knitted textile substrate. As a result of an in situ lamination strategy, our e-textile exhibits excellent breathability (1428 mm s −1 , greater than that of bare cotton fabric) and outstanding sensitivity (gage factor of 39.7) over a wide strain range (~ 0.0625–200%). Importantly, we observed exceptional sensing durability even after severe mechanical disturbance of stretching, bending, or twisting (> 1500 cycles) and daily machine washes. Detailed analysis revealed that our proposed in situ lamination approach enabled the physical and chemical interactions between sensing active materials and the textile substrate. Furthermore, the electromechanical behavior of our RGO/PANI e-textile was thoroughly analyzed based on an equivalent electrical circuit, which agreed well with the experimental data. Example applications of the e-textile were demonstrated for personal health care management, including body motion monitoring, emotional sensing, and flatfoot gait correction. The RGO/PANI e-textile presented in this study holds significant implications for the evolution of health care applications utilizing smart e-textiles. Graphical Abstract
