High-performance wearable electronics are highly desirable for the development of body warming and human health monitoring devices. In the present study, high electrically conductive and photothermal cotton yarns (CYs) with long-term stability were prepared as wearable electronics. The process contains back-to-back decoration of the fiber surface by Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene) nanosheets, and the poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT: PSS) composite, to form a core–shell structure (MP@CY). The addition of a small amount of PEDOT: PSS plays a dual role of protecting the MXene from oxidation and increasing the electrical conductivity. The resulting yarn exhibits excellent electrical conductivity (21.8 Ω cm −1 ), rapid electrothermal response, and superb photothermal conversion capability, supporting its application as an optical/electrical dual-drive heater. A three-dimensional (3D) honeycomb-like textile wearable heater based on MP@CY as weft yarn demonstrates outstanding electrical thermal properties (0–2.5 V, 30–196.8 °C) and exceptional photothermal conversion (130 mW cm −2 , 64.2 °C). Using an Internet of Things (IoT) microcontroller and Espressif (ESP) electronics chip, which are combined with wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) and smartphone, real-time visualization and precise control of the temperature interface can be achieved. Furthermore, MP@CY-based knitted sensors, obtained by hand-knitting, are utilized for monitoring human movement and health, exhibiting high sensitivity and long-term cycling stability. Thermoelectric power generators have attracted increasing interest in recent years owing to their great potential in wearable electronics power supply. It is noted that thermoelectric power generators are easy to damage in the dynamic service process, resulting in the formation of microcracks and performance degradation. Herein, we prepare a new hybrid hydrogel thermoelectric material PAAc/XG/Bi 2 Se 0.3 Te 2.7 by an in situ polymerization method, which shows a high stretchable and self-healable performance, as well as a good thermoelectric performance. For the sample with Bi 2 Se 0.3 Te 2.7 content of 1.5 wt% (i.e., PAAc/XG/Bi 2 Se 0.3 Te 2.7 (1.5 wt%)), which has a room temperature Seebeck coefficient of −0.45 mV K −1 , and exhibits an open-circuit voltage of −17.91 mV and output power of 38.1 nW at a temperature difference of 40 K. After being completely cut off, the hybrid thermoelectric hydrogel automatically recovers its electrical characteristics within a response time of 2.0 s, and the healed hydrogel remains more than 99% of its initial power output. Such stretchable and self-healable hybrid hydrogel thermoelectric materials show promising potential for application in dynamic service conditions, such as wearable electronics.

Recently, highly flexible strain sensors have been widely studied based on the conductive polymer composites, due to their potential applications in wearable electronics, soft robots, and human–machine interfaces. Herein, we fabricate the flexible MWCNT line/Ecoflex strain sensors by 3D printing technology to investigate the effects of preparation conditions on the performance of sensors, and find that gage factor (GF) of such sensors is effected by concentration of MWCNT/IPA solution and curing time of Ecoflex pre-polymer film. Among the obtained samples, the sensor prepared by 2 wt% MWCNT/IPA solution with curing time of 12 min has the highest gage factor, about ~ 23.87. The sensors can detect or monitor subtle motions of facial muscle, breath and pulse, and possess wide linear range besides good repeatability and excellent durability. Meanwhile, the prepared sensors were designed into a 4 × 4 array, and the array achieved monitoring of spatial distribution of the applied pressure. Our strategy could be used to fabricate flexible strain sensors with wide linear range, which facilitate further integration to achieve potential applications in detection of human activity, electronic skin, and soft robots.

The rapid development of wearable electronic raises the requirement of textile electrodes for biosignal acquisition. However, a big concern is the washability of the e-textiles during practical use, especially for the electrocardiogram (ECG) textile electrodes with metal coating on the fabrics. In this study, a conductive cellulosic fabric with high washability was fabricated by simple drop-coating methods. The cellulosic fabric was drop coated with the mixture of silver nanowires (AgNWs) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and further cross-linked with glutaraldehyde (GA) to form a network to hold AgNWs onto the fabric to prevent AgNWs from falling off in washing. Due to the large amount of hydroxyl groups in the cellulose, it is feasible for GA to cross-link cellulose and PVA by reacting between aldehyde groups and hydroxyl groups. The conductive cellulosic fabric with three drop-coating cycles (3-AgNW/CF) showed excellent conductivity and good stability. The electrical resistance of 3-AgNW/CF increased from 0.43 to 7.63 Ω sq −1 after 100 washing hours. The conductive cellulosic fabric was applied in the smart garment as textile electrodes to acquire ECG signals, which could remain basically consistent after 80 washing hours and slightly deformed after 100 washing hours. The antibacterial efficiency of the conductive cellulosic fabric was 99.9% mainly owing to impalement of AgNWs into bacteria. Together with the facile fabrication protocol, the cellulosic textile electrodes with superb washability show great potential of consumer-level applications in ECG wearable electronics. Graphical

Strong mechanical performance, appropriate adhesion capacity, and excellent biocompatibility of conductive hydrogel-based sensors are of great significance for their application. However, conventional conductive hydrogels usually exhibit insufficient mechanical strength and adhesion. In addition, they will lose flexibility and conductivity under subzero temperature and a dry environment owing to inevitable freezing and evaporation of water. In this study, a tough, flexible, self-adhesive, long-term moisturizing, and antifreezing organohydrogel was prepared, which was composed of gelatin, zwitterionic poly [2-(methacryloyloxy) ethyl] dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl) (PSBMA), MXene nanosheets, and glycerol. Natural gelatin was incorporated to enhance mechanical performance via the entanglement of a physical cross-linked network and a PSBMA network, which was also used as a stabilizer to disperse MXene into the organohydrogel. Zwitterionic PSBMA endowed the organohydrogel with good adhesion and self-healing properties. Long-term moisturizing properties and antifreeze tolerance could be achieved owing to the synergistic water retention capacity of PSBMA and glycerol. The resulting PSBMA–gelatin–MXene–glycerol (PGMG) organohydrogel exhibited high mechanical fracture strength (0.65 MPa) and stretchability (over 1000%), excellent toughness (3.87 MJ/m3), strong and repeated adhesion to diverse substrates (e.g., paper, glass, silicon rubber, iron, and pig skin), good fatigue resistance (under the cyclic stretching–releasing process), and rapid recovery capacity. Moreover, the PGMG organohydrogel showed good stability under −40 °C. The sensor based on PGMG organohydrogel could tightly attach to the human skin and real-time-monitor the motions of joints (e.g., bending of the finger, wrist, elbow, and knee) and the change in mood such as smiling and frowning. Therefore, PGMG organohydrogels have a huge potential for wearable sensors under room temperature or extreme environments.

Self-supported nanofiber membranes were fabricated by the rhombus-patterned collector in the electrospinning process in this work. The rhombus nanofiber networks were used to retain the mechanical flexibility of the device and stable responses such as bending and winding deformation. A resistive humidity sensor was developed by applying hydrophilic PANI with varying contents onto nanofiber surfaces through in situ polymerization, serving as electrodes. In this context, the self-supported membranes serve dual roles as both the sensing material and the substrate for the sensor. A comprehensive assessment was conducted to analyze how variations in relative humidity affect the sensing characteristics of the acquired sensors. By facilely regulating the ratio of dopant and oxidant concentration to monomer concentration in the polymerization process, the response of the sensors was increased from 49% to 83% with increasing relative humidity from 13% to 93%, good linearity (R 2 = 0.97) and a short response/recovery times (33/88 s). The prepared sensors exhibited appreciable mechanical properties and showed outstanding stability after 1000 cycles of bending and the resistances only slightly increased by 2.5%. Moreover, the sensor can monitor both human respiration and non-contact skin humidity. Its exceptional performance makes it easily integrable into textiles for the creation of wearable electronics.

Textile-based electronics hold great promise because they can endow wearable devices with soft and comfortable characteristics. However, the inherent porosity and fluffiness of fabrics result in high surface roughness, which presents great challenges in the manufacture of high-performance fabric electrodes. In this work, we propose a thermal transfer printing method to address the above challenges, in which electrodes or circuits of silver flake/thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites are prefabricated on a release film by coating and laser engraving and then laminated by hot-pressing to a variety of fabrics and textiles. This universal and scalable production technique enables fabric electrodes to be made without compromising the original wearability, washability, and stretchability of textiles. The prepared fabric electrodes exhibit high conductivity (5.48 × 104 S/cm), high adhesion (≥1750 N/m), good abrasion/washing resistance, high patterning resolution (∼40 μm), and good electromechanical performance up to 50% strain. To demonstrate the potential applications, we developed textile-based radio frequency identification (RFID) tags for remote identification and a large-sized heater for wearable thermotherapy. More importantly, the solvent-free thermal transfer printing technology developed in this paper enables people to DIY interesting flexible electronics on clothes with daily tools, which can promote the commercial application of smart textile-based electronics.

Flexible wearable electronics are essential for applications in healthcare, soft robotics, and human–machine interfaces. However, replicating the multifunctional capabilities of human skin—such as mechanical robustness, high elasticity, self-healing, and multimodal sensing—remains a challenge. Herein, we introduce pyridine ligands into the polymer chain segments, coordinating with Zn 2+ ions to establish a non-covalent, cross-linked network. This structure is further integrated with ionic liquids to craft recyclable, multimodal sensing ionic elastomers. These elastomers boast robust mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 5.3 MPa and extraordinary toughness, reaching 57.9 MJ/m 3 . Additionally, they withstand up to 1400 tensile cycles. The wide sensing range of these materials—strain (5 %−80 %), pressure (2–8 kPa), and temperature (25–60 °C)—makes them ideal for tactile applications in wearable ionic skins and robotic arms. This enables real-time monitoring of both human and machine states, significantly advancing the capabilities of wearable electronics, robotics, and human–computer interfaces. The impressive performance of these ionic elastomers heralds a new era in multimodal sensing technology.

Degradable wearable electronics are attracting increasing attention to weaken or eliminate the negative effect of waste e-wastes and promote the development of medical implants without secondary post-treatment. Although various degradable materials have been explored for wearable electronics, the development of degradable wearable electronics with integrated characteristics of highly sensing performances and low-cost manufacture remains challenging. Herein, we developed a facile, low-cost, and environmentally friendly approach to fabricate a biocompatible and degradable silk fibroin based wearable electronics (SFWE) for on-body monitoring. A combination of rose petal templating and hollow carbon nanospheres endows as-fabricated SFWE with good sensitivity (5.63 kPa −1 ), a fast response time (147 ms), and stable durability (15,000 cycles). The degradable phenomenon has been observed in the solution of 1 M NaOH, confirming that silk fibroin based wearable electronics possess degradable property. Furthermore, the as-fabricated SFWE have been demonstrated that have abilities to monitor knuckle bending, muscle movement, and facial expression. This work offers an ecologically-benign and cost-effective approach to fabricate high-performance wearable electronics.

Hydrogel materials containing gelatin can improve the biocompatibility and biodegradability of sensing materials, so they can be widely used in flexible sensors, health monitoring, and smart electronic devices. In this paper, using gelatin as a biomass-based material, the interpenetrating network structure formed between gelatin and polyacrylamide could not only improve the strong stretchability and flexibility of hydrogel but also provide more binding sites for conductive materials. Then, the polyacrylamide–gelatin MXene hydrogel (PGMH) sensor with excellent sensing performance and tensile strength was prepared by introducing MXene into the polyacrylamide–gelatin network structure. In addition to enhancing the mechanical properties of the hydrogel, the electrical conductivity and sensing properties are effectively improved as a wearable electronic device; the breathability of the hydrogel sensing material can ensure its adequate wear safety and comfort. Importantly, its biomass-based feedstock also gives it excellent stability and comfort to use. The designed hydrogel sensor has good stability and wide applicability and has great application potential in the next generation of degradable wearable electronic devices.

Textile-based supercapacitors having intrinsically mechanical flexibility are regarded as hopeful power sources for wearable electronics . Herein, four PANI/graphene/textile electrodes are successfully synthesized using a simple ‘dipping and drying’ procedure followed by in-situ polymerization of aniline. The effects of the acidic dopants on the morphological, structural and capacitive characteristics of the resultant electrodes are systematically investigated. The PANI/graphene/textile-HCl (PANI/G/T-HCl) depicts a maximum areal specific capacitance of 1601 mF cm −2 at the current density of 1 mA cm −2 , which is apparently higher than numerous textile-electrodes reported so far, and an attractive cycling stability with a capacitance retention more than 75% after 10,000 cycles at 10 mA cm −2 . The constructed all-solid-state supercapacitor device affords an outstanding energy density of 755 mWh m −2 at a power density of 1448 mW m −2 . The capacitive performance of this device remains stable under bending degrees from 0 to 180° and exhibits a high capacity retention of 77% over 600 bending cycles, verifying a superior mechanical flexibility and capacitive stability with extensive prospects for practical applications.

Halide perovskites have shown great potential in X-ray detection due to outstanding optoelectronic properties. However, finding a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable method for handling end-of-life devices has remained challenging. Here, a “One-Click Restart” eco-friendly recycling strategy is introduced for end-of-life perovskite X-ray detectors. This method, utilizing water, allows for the recapture and reuse of both perovskite and conductor materials. The process is straightforward and environmentally friendly, eliminating the need for further chemical treatment, purification, additional additives or catalysts, and complex equipment. A sustainable device cycle is developed by reconstructing flexible perovskite membranes for wearable electronics from recycled materials. Large-scale, flexible membranes made from metal-free perovskite DABCO-N 2 H 5 -I 3 (DABCO = N - N ′-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octonium) achieve remarkably impressive average sensitivity of 6204 ± 268 µC Gy air −1 cm −2 and a low detection limit of 102.3 nGy air s −1 , which makes highly effective for X-ray imaging. The sensitivity of recycled flexible devices not only matches that of single-crystal devices made with fresh materials but also ranks as the highest among all metal-free perovskite X-ray detectors. “One-Click Restart” applies to scalable flexible devices derived from aged single-crystal counterparts, offering significant cost, time, and energy savings compared to their single-crystal equivalents. Such advantages significantly boost future market competitiveness.
