Robust conductive hydrogels are in great demand for the practical applications of smart soft robots, epidermal electronics, and human–machine interactions. We successfully prepared nanoparticles enhanced polyacrylamide/hydroxypropyl guar gum/acryloyl-grafted chitosan quaternary ammonium salt/calcium ions/SiO2nanoparticles (PHC/Ca2+/SiO2NPs) conductive hydrogels. Owing to the stable chemical and physical hybrid crosslinking networks and reversible non-covalent interactions, the PHC/Ca2+/SiO2NPs conductive hydrogel showed good conductivity (~3.39 S/m), excellent toughness (6.71 MJ/m3), high stretchability (2256%), fast self-recovery (80% within 10 s, and 100% within 30 s), and good fatigue resistance. The maximum gauge factor as high as 66.99 was obtained, with a wide detectable strain range (from 0.25% to 500% strain), the fast response (25.00 ms) and recovery time (86.12 ms), excellent negligible response hysteresis, and good response stability. The applications of monitoring the human’s body movements were demonstrated, such as wrist bending and pulse tracking. Keywords:hydrogels;toughness;wearable sensors

Temperature sensors provide new possibilities for personal health management. However, it is a challenge to fabricate high-sensitivity sensors that can respond flexibly to different temperature ranges. In this work, the acrylate copolymer (AC) with tunable temperature response in the range of 33–40 °C was synthesized. Then a highly sensitive wearable body temperature sensor (BTS) is constructed with it and carbon black (CB). The larger volume expansion of AC and the loose conductive network formed by CB can make its resistance change over 3 orders of magnitude with temperature change. Furthermore, the sensitivity (R/R 0 ) can reach 12.5 % when the temperature varies by 0.5 °C around the body temperature and remains stable after 200 times heating cycles. The BTS is connected to light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to visualize this process. Therefore, the prepared high-sensitivity BTS has broad application prospects in the field of smart wearable electronics.

High-performance wearable electronics are highly desirable for the development of body warming and human health monitoring devices. In the present study, high electrically conductive and photothermal cotton yarns (CYs) with long-term stability were prepared as wearable electronics. The process contains back-to-back decoration of the fiber surface by Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene) nanosheets, and the poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT: PSS) composite, to form a core–shell structure (MP@CY). The addition of a small amount of PEDOT: PSS plays a dual role of protecting the MXene from oxidation and increasing the electrical conductivity. The resulting yarn exhibits excellent electrical conductivity (21.8 Ω cm −1 ), rapid electrothermal response, and superb photothermal conversion capability, supporting its application as an optical/electrical dual-drive heater. A three-dimensional (3D) honeycomb-like textile wearable heater based on MP@CY as weft yarn demonstrates outstanding electrical thermal properties (0–2.5 V, 30–196.8 °C) and exceptional photothermal conversion (130 mW cm −2 , 64.2 °C). Using an Internet of Things (IoT) microcontroller and Espressif (ESP) electronics chip, which are combined with wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) and smartphone, real-time visualization and precise control of the temperature interface can be achieved. Furthermore, MP@CY-based knitted sensors, obtained by hand-knitting, are utilized for monitoring human movement and health, exhibiting high sensitivity and long-term cycling stability. Assembling MXene two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets solely into structurally robust three-dimensional (3D) multifunctional macroarchitectures with temperature-invariant elasticity is significant for widening their potential applications but has remained exceedingly challenging. To this end, a facile freeze-induced co-assembly was developed to allow the disparate integration of MXene 2D nanosheets into the directive heterogeneities to easily customize the controllable 3D architectures for geometry accessibility, structure integrity, and function adaptability. With functionalized cellulose nanocrystal serving as a structural modifier and cross-linking by polyurethane as well as manipulating the directionally ice templating process, multilevel nanostructured configurations with interconnected porous channels could be obtained for biomimetic aerogel electrodes across multiple length scales. Benefiting from the high ion pathway from the low-tortuosity topology, MXene aerogels showed outstanding electrochemical property (225 F/g), high-rate capacity, and temperature-invariant superelasticity (from 0 to 150 °C), which surpassed some of the best reported values. MXene quasi-solid-state supercapacitors presented superior electrochemistry (energy density: 38.5 μWh/cm2) and outstanding cycle ability (86.7% after 4000 cycles). Exhibiting excellent photoresponse capacity, they could be used as an integrated photodetector. More importantly, specially designed bio-mimicking structures with mechanically self-adaptive resilience could promote MXene 3D aerogels to apply in wearable electronic devices, monitoring various human motions. This work will shed light on MXene aerogels for smart and self-powered lightweight electronics.

Currently, indoor heating technology supports people's comfortable working and living conditions, but a large portion of energy is wasted on heating empty space. Target-selective heating can focus energy on specific objects, thus achieving high efficiency at a low cost. Here, we report a personal thermal management cloth that uses a coating of sliver nanowire (AgNW)/polydopamine nanocomposite; the cotton was modified with polydopamine to enhance the adhesive ability of AgNWs through intermolecular cross-linking. The AgNW/polydopamine cloth (ADNC) not only highly reflects middle-to-far infrared radiation from the human body (the average reflectance is up to 86%, approximately 66 times higher than normal cloth), but it also allows Joule heating with a quick thermal response (1 min, from 22 °C to 40 °C). Additionally, the AgNW/polydopamine cloth is durable and washable, making it suitable for a personal thermal management cloth.

Growing interest in conductive organohydrogels for wearable flexible strain sensors has significantly increased the demand for their stability and versatility. In this work, stable, and 3D-printed organohydrogels were prepared by utilizing the dynamic hydrogen bonding interaction between Gelatin and dl -Thioctic acid (TA), along with the Hofmeister effect between gelatin and ammonium sulfate. This double network structure endows the hydrogel with outstanding mechanical robustness, excellent low-temperature stability, and rapid gelation behavior suitable for 3D printing. After 200 compression loading-unloading cycles, the organohydrogel retained a remarkably high stress level, maintaining 96 % of its initial stress, and displayed a consistent electrical signal throughout each cycle. Furthermore, even after 7 days at room temperature, the organohydrogel preserved excellent stress (maintained at 92 %), electrical performance, and sensitivity in pressure signal recognition during extended cycle tests. The organohydrogel also supported 3D printing and was used to construct sensor arrays. Its excellent stability and versatility enhanced the potential applications in wearable pressure sensors.

Pheochromocytoma is a neuroendocrine tumor characterized by excessive catecholamine secretion, leading to hypertension and complications. Vanillylmandelic acid (VMA), a stable metabolic product of catecholamines (CA), is primarily excreted in urine, with levels rising early in the disease or prior to tumor recurrence. Therefore, rapid and accurate detection of urinary VMA is essential for the early diagnosis and monitoring of pheochromocytoma. Herein, we developed a wearable physicochemical-sensing system for non-invasive in situ monitoring of biomarkers associated with pheochromocytoma. The system integrates cuffless blood pressure (BP) monitoring technology and electrochemical biosensor, utilizing screen-printing to create high-precision multi-channel electrodes. It can be integrated with diaper to detect blood pressure and biomarkers including VMA, creatinine, and pH, aiming to improve urine analysis efficiency and enhance patient experience. The VMA-to-creatinine concentration ratio was employed as an evaluative metric, with measurements calibrated against external variables including pH, temperature, and ionic strength, enabling random urine sample collection and analysis. The resulting sensor demonstrates sensitive and linear responses within the concentration ranges of 10 nM–100 μM for VMA, 100 nM–10 mM for creatinine, and 4–9 for pH. The cuffless blood pressure monitoring patch simultaneously collects dual-lead ECG and PPG, extracts features, and inputs them into a prediction model to estimate BP values. The correlation between the estimated blood pressure value of the model and the actual blood pressure value is 0.9207 (systolic blood pressure, SBP) and 0.9015 (diastolic blood pressure, DBP), respectively. We conducted further tests on the electrochemical biosensor's selectivity, reproducibility, and stability, evaluating the potential of this strategy in effectively monitoring pheochromocytoma.

Rapid humidity response contributes tremendously to visually flexible wearables. However, sluggish response, infrequent reproducibility, and biotoxicity restrict the development of wearable humidity response devices. Here, inspired by the changes in the color of Dynastes hercules , a flexible wearable, rapid response, stretchable, rewritable meta-silk fibroin diffractive film (mSFD) is presented. The film is generated by spin-coating silk protein and polyurethane (PU) cross-linking, followed by hot pressing of meta-structures. Owing to the diffraction and stable combination of the SF β -structure and PU hydrogen bond, mSFDs exhibit excellent coloration, rapid response, and erasability. Notably, the microcolumns and microporous structures on the meta-membrane endow the membrane with unparalleled rapid response features. Fast color disappearance and reappearance are observed under high humidity conditions (response time <2 ms, cycle in 1 s). In particular, the rapid humidity responsiveness of mSFP induces a change in the color of the membrane, which enables its application in real-time biomonitoring (wound management, mask regulation) and anticounterfeiting (medicine storage, fingerprint recognition). These properties endow bioinspired mSFD P with high potential in the field of robotic skin.

The infrared radiation heating textiles have attracted increasing attention aiming to address the warmth retention issue in cold weather. It still remains challenging to develop high-efficiency heating products with fast heating rate and stable heat generation. Here, a highly flexible, efficient, and wearable infrared radiation heating carbon fabric (CF) was rationally constructed using textile forming technique. Inspired by the biomimetic adhesion, the carbon fabric was chemically modified by dopamine to improve the interfacial activity on the fiber surface. Infrared radiation materials including tourmaline, ZrO 2 , and medical stone nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully introduced into the carbon fabric through interfacial adhesion. The permanent spontaneous polarization of both CF matrix and infrared radiation NPs can induce an enhanced current in the heater by creating an additional electrical field, benefiting to produce a fast electrothermal response and favorable heat preservation. It was found that 30% tourmaline@PDA@CF, 9% ZrO 2 @PDA@CF, and 15% medical stone@PDA@CF exhibited excellent heat generation performance among different samples with different ingredients. The temperature can be rapidly raised up from room temperature to 58.3 °C, 60 °C, 59.5 °C respectively for these three samples in 10 min under a voltage of 10 V. More importantly, the composite CF is highly shape adaptive and can be fully integrated into a neck guard or industrial carpet for real application. It is expected that this infrared radiation heating CF can be widely applied in the fields of personal warmth, physical therapy, biomedical treatment, and wearable flexible electronics.

Flexible high-conductivity fibers have attracted much attention due to their great potential in the field of wearable electronic devices. However, how to ensure high conductivity and flexibility is still a challenge. In this paper, the flexible silk fibers were used as the substrate, and manganese oxides were generated on the surface by potassium permanganate treatment. On this basis, the flexible high conductivity silk fibers with a resistivity of 1.47 Ω·cm were prepared by in-situ chemical polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene(EDOT) on the surface of silk fibers. The surface morphology and chemical composition of silk fibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP). The results confirmed that a large amount of MnO 2 was synthesized and deposited on the surface of the silk fibers. The flexible conductive silk prepared by this method had good temperature sensitivity (- 0.47%/K), good stability and repeatability under cyclic tension, and the relative resistance change rate was 9.1%. Meanwhile, due to the binding force between the surface-active groups of the silk fibers and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), the conductive silk fibers exhibited good stability against water washing, demonstrating a broad application prospects in the field of wearable sensors .

Conductive hydrogels as wearable devices meet the basic demands of mechanical flexibility and smart sensing. However, achieving a combination of adequate skin adhesion, long-term stability and visible human-sensor interface are still challengeable. Here, a simple and effective strategy was proposed to fabricate “all-in-one” hydrolyzed keratin protein-modified polyacrylamide composite hydrogel transducer. Hydrolyzed keratin endowed hydrogel with lower modulus and ultra-stretchability to minimize wearing-related tension and discomfort. Specially, robust skin adhesion was obtained to achieve precise sensing without delamination. Impressively, the hydrogel had high transparency and exhibited wide-range temperature tolerance (−20 °C to 50 °C). Besides, the hydrogel with stable conductivity was extremely sensitive to pressure and strain at a wide range. As a result, the obtained transducer could not only detect human motion, respiratory mode and vocal-cord vibration, but also identify handwriting and facial expression. This work shed a new light on the design of next-generation skin-like electronic devices with applications in human-machine interface, ionic skin, artificial intelligence and healthcare monitoring.

Hydrogel-based sensors have drawn wide attention in the fields of medical monitoring, electronic skin, human–machine interfaces, and so forth. So far, although the research on hydrogel-based sensors has made great progress, there are still some problems hindering their further development, such as poor mechanical flexibility, inadequate anti-freezing capability, and weak self-adhesive and antibacterial properties. Herein, a multipurpose hydrogel (GG/PAAm/PA/LiCl) is facilely prepared by the thermally initiated radical polymerization method. The natural guar gum (GG) and chemically cross-linked polyacrylamide (PAAm) chain-based dual-network structures endow the hydrogel with excellent stretchability (2102%) and tensile strength (117 kPa). Meanwhile, the hydrogel exhibits extraordinary low-temperature tolerance due to the synergistic effects of phytic acid (PA) and lithium chloride (LiCl), which can basically maintain its original mechanical properties even after being stored at −50 °C for 15 days. Moreover, the introduction of natural biomolecule PA has also contributed to the superior self-adhesive property and prominent antibacterial activity. Furthermore, the as-prepared hydrogel can be served as a strain sensor with wide sensing range (5–500%) and remarkable signal stability (800 cycles at 200% strain), which displays attractive application prospects in rehabilitation training monitoring and information transmission. Owing to the outstanding anti-freezing capability, the hydrogel-based sensor is also capable of precisely sensing the bending movements of a prosthetic finger under an extreme weather condition of −50 °C. This work provides a new horizon to develop extraordinary freezing-tolerant hydrogels with multiple properties for future wearable electronics and artificial intelligence.
