Camellia oleifera Abel . is a unique and important edible oil crop in China. The quality and high yield of C. oleifera are closely related to cultivation, management and back-end processing and storage. However, studies on the growth and development, drying treatment and back-end storage of C. oleifera are not comprehensive enough. Therefore, the phenotypic characteristics of C.oleifera fruits during growth and ripening were studied and the effects of four different drying methods including room temperature drying (SW), hot air drying (RF, 65 °C), vacuum drying (ZG, 50 °C, 0.6 Mpa) and freeze drying (LD) on the oil content of C.oleifera seeds (COS) were discussed. At the same time, the changes of the main components and nutrients of C.oleifera kernel oil (COKO) under room temperature storage (SG) and 4 °C frozen storage (LC) were also investigated. The results of the study showed that C. oleifera cultivar ‘Changlin40’ exhibited an S-shaped curve in fruit growth and development. In addition, the oil content initially increased and then remained stable, and the soluble protein and starch contents increased with increasing fruit maturity, but the soluble sugar content increased rapidly at the early stage of fruit development and gradually decreased at the later stage. The maximum content of squalene in the oil obtained by vacuum drying was 80.578 μg/g. The oil content of COS treated by RF was 55.31%, significantly higher than the other treatments. In addition, it was also found that with increasing duration of SG, the acid and peroxide values of COKO increased significantly and the nutrients such as tocopherol, squalene and sterol decreased significantly, which was exactly the opposite of LC, indicating that LC could reduce the loss of nutrients during storage. This study can provide a theoretical basis for field management, screening of drying methods and subsequent storage of C. oleifera .

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the quality and select the best varieties from 85 olive varieties in the Liangshan region, China, from the perspective of oil content, fatty acid, and triacylglycerol compositions. Although 85 varieties of olive oil showed no difference in the type of fatty acid composition and the distribution of triglycerides, they varied greatly in the oil content, the relative proportion of fatty acids, and triglycerides. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster and heatmap analysis clearly divided the 85 samples into three groups. Group A included 36 varieties and was characterized by high oleic acid, mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), eicosenoic acid, OOO (glyceryl trioleate), and OOL (1-oleic acid-2-oleic acid-3-linoleic acid glycerides) contents, but rare palmitoleic acid, SFA (saturated fatty acid), and POP (1-palmitic acid-2-oleic acid-3-palmitic acid glycerides) levels. Group B contained 9 varieties of olive, with the main characteristics of high oleic acid, linolenic acid, MUFA, MUFA/PUFA, SFA, and OLnO (1-oleic acid-2-linolenic acid-3-oleic acid glycerides) content, but low in linoleic acid, PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acid), PLL levels and ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Group C comprised 40 varieties, identified by high linoleic acid and PUFA levels but low ratios of oleic acid, MUFA, OOO, MUFA/PUFA, and the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Combined with the oil content (FW) (%) of 85 varieties, we suggested four distinguished varieties in Group A, namelyLechín,Coratina,Koroneiki, andArbosana; three distinguished varieties in Group B, namelyPicual,Ezhi,Cornicabra; two distinguished varieties in Group C namelyFrantoioandArbequinaas the objects of large-scale cultivation by Chinese cultivators. More importantly, the obtained data also demonstrated that some locally bred specific varieties, such asZhongze-3andYuntai, had interesting unsaturated fatty acids and had cultivation and popularization value in China. Keywords:olive oil;fatty acid composition;triacylglycerol;principal component analysis

Cottonseeds, rich in high-quality protein and fatty acids, represent a vital plant-derived feedstuff and edible oil resource. To systematically investigate genetic variation patterns in nutritional quality and screen superior germplasm, this study analyzed 26 nutritional quality traits and 8 fiber traits across 259 upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutumL.) accessions using multivariate statistical approaches. Results revealed significant genetic diversity in cottonseed nutritional profiles, with coefficients of variation ranging from 3.42% to 26.37%. Moreover, with advancements in breeding periods, the contents of protein, amino acids, and the proportion of unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) increased, while oil content and C16:0 levels decreased. Correlation analyses identified significant positive associations (p< 0.05) between proteins, amino acids, UFAs, and most fiber traits, except for seed index (SI), fiber micronaire (FM), and fiber elongation (FE). Through a principal component analysis–fuzzy membership function (PCA-FMF) model, 13 elite accessions (F > 0.75) with high protein content, high UFA proportion, and excellent fiber quality were identified. These findings provide both data-driven foundations and practical germplasm resources for value-added utilization of cottonseed and coordinated breeding for dual-quality traits of nutrition and fiber.
