Nanocomposite technology is recognized as a general and effective strategy to enhance the performance of flexible energy storage devices. However, the enhancement of flexible batteries in nanocomposites is usually much lower than expected, which is mainly attributed to the poor interfacial interactions between active material and conductive substrate as well as sluggish Na + diffusion kinetics and complex assembly techniques. It remains a huge challenge to simultaneously achieve good mechanical properties, excellent electrochemical performance, and high safety in flexible batteries. Here, we developed an interface engineering strategy to prepare a high-strength and high-toughness quasi-solid fiber battery using direct ink writing 3D printing, which was achieved by introducing borate ester dynamic crosslinking as bridging interaction with self-healing properties. This configuration exhibited a remarkably enhanced energy density (104 Wh kg −1 ) and high power density (20.8 W kg −1 ), with excellent strain (exceeding 25%) and outstanding thermal stability (200 °C), which exceeds those of previously reported. Density functional theory calculations further reveal the mechanism by which the interface engineering-based borate ester dynamic crosslinking affects the performance of fiber battery. Based on this excellent performance, fiber batteries are woven into a mobile phone pouch for wireless charging of wearable electronic devices. This work provides an effective route toward high-performance flexible energy storage devices for a broad range of applications. Graphical

Poly (L-lactide) can cause serious plastic pollution if discarded without proper treatment. However, how to recycle Poly (L-lactide) efficiently and economically is still a major challenge. This work aims to recycle Poly (L-lactide) from waste by selective precipitation using stereocomplex technology. In this strategy, Poly (D-lactide) is specifically and selectively stereocomplexed with Poly (L-lactide) in the mixed system to form a precipitate, and then filtered and recovered to obtain the stereocomplex polylactide with better water and heat resistance, thus achieving upcycling. A recovery rate of 90% by weight of Poly (L-lactide) is achieved. In addition, nanofibrous membranes are prepared by electrospinning to expand their potential application scenarios. This work provides a reference for the efficient and economical up-cycling of Poly (L-lactide) from waste.

The application of nanoparticles in terms of improving the cold flow properties of diesel fuels attracted more and more attention, and the composite technology of pour point depressant could further improve the cold flow properties of diesel fuels. A new type of nano-hybrid pour point depressant (PPD) was created in this study by copolymerising surface-modified carbon dots with tetradecyl methacrylate, which demonstrated good cold flow properties for diesel fuels (ΔSP = 21 °C, ΔCFPP = 9 °C). Besides, the ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) resin was also tested as a novel class of PPD to improve the cold flow properties of diesel fuels and exhibited excellent effect (ΔCFPP = 13 °C) on reducing the cold filter plugging point of diesel fuels. Thus, the combined technology of these two type of PPDs was used to further improve the cold flow properties of diesel fuels. The results indicated that the composite PPDs showed a great decrease in both solid point and cold filter plugging point of diesel fuels at a dose of 1500 ppm (ΔSP = 30 °C, ΔCFPP = 20 °C), which indicates better performance than achieved by either of them alone. In addition, polynomial and quadratic function fitting models are established to describe how the two main factors affect the cold flow properties of diesel fuels, and the fitting effects are well. In the end, using a differential scanning calorimeter , polarised optical microscope and rheological analysis, the paraffin crystallisation and morphology of wax crystals for diesel fuels before and after treatment with PPDs were studied, and the mechanism of heterogeneous nucleation and crystallisation of paraffin induced by PPD was proposed to explain the effects of nano-hybrid PPD, EVA resin and combined PPDs.

Scalable manufacturing continues to present a major barrier for clinical translation of nanotherapeutics. Methods available for fabricating protein-encapsulating nanoparticles in a scalable fashion are scarce. Protein delivery often requires multiple functionalities to be incorporated into the same vehicle. Specifically for nanoparticle-mediated oral delivery of protein therapeutics, protection in GI tract, site-specific release, facilitating transmucosal permeation, and enhancing epithelial transport are a few desirable features to be engineered into a nanoparticle system. Here we devised a sequential flash nanocomplexation (FNC) technique for the scalable production of a core–shell structured nanoparticle system by combining materials choice and particle size and structure to fulfill these functions, therefore enhancing the delivery efficiency of insulin. This method is highly effective in controlling the size, generating core–shell structure with high encapsulation efficiency (97%) and payload capacity (67%) using insulin/L-penetratin complex nanoparticles as a core coated with hyaluronic acid (HA). Both the in vitro and in vivo models confirmed that the HA coating on these core–shell nanoparticles enhanced the permeation of nanoparticles through the intestinal mucus layer and improved trans-epithelial absorption of insulin nanoparticles; and the enhancement effect was most prominent using HA with the highest average molecular weight. The insulin-loaded nanoparticles were then encapsulated into enteric microcapsules (MCs) in an FNC process to provide additional protection against the acidic environment in the stomach while allowing rapid release of insulin nanoparticles when they reach small intestine. The optimized multifunctional MCs delivered an effective glucose reduction in a Type I diabetes rat model following a single oral administration, yielding a relative bioavailability of 11% in comparison with subcutaneous injection of free-form insulin. This FNC technique is highly effective in controlling particle size and structure to improve delivery properties and function. It can be easily extended to oral delivery for other protein therapeutics.

The effects of the treatment (UPFL) combining ultrasound (US) with plasma functionalized liquids (PFL) were evaluated on the quality of vacuum-packaged silver Pomfret stored at 4 ℃ for 15 days. Conformational modifications in myofibrillar proteins, improvements in nutritional value and biomedical index of fatty acids and lipids, reduced pH of 5.70, increased K -value, TBARS, and TVB-N at values of 12.05%, 0.576 mg MDA/kg, and 9.15 mg N/100 g, respectively, and 1.99 log reductions in spoilage microorganisms were evident immediately after treatments. UPFL presented better quality preservative effects when compared with individual applications of US or PFL, and vacuum packaging ensured optimal quality enhancement effects such as stability of myofibril fragmentation, inhibition of physicochemical quality degradation, and microbial growth control. The results also revealed the predominant cultivable spoilage microbiota of vacuum-packaged silver Pomfret treated with UPFL, providing valuable information towards developing broad-spectrum sanitisers and hurdle technology for the seafood industry.
