Photocatalysis based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have drawn increasing attention for the removal of organic contaminants, while the relationships of the target organic contaminants with the intrinsic properties of the photocatalysts are usually neglected. Herein, the photocatalytic behaviors among ten kinds of organic contaminants and two heterojunction photocatalysts were comparatively investigated. Photocatalysts BiOCl 0.75 I 0.25 /g-C 3 N 4 (BCI-CN) with abundant oxygen vacancies exhibited stronger absorption capacity towards light and quicker transfer efficiency of photoinduced carriers (factor η 1×2 ) than BiOCl/g-C 3 N 4 (BC-CN). Nevertheless, the redox ability (factor η 3 ) of BCI-CN was weaker than that of BC-CN. Factor η 1×2 and η 3 synergistically and competitively affect the photocatalytic activities. Based on the differences and connections about intrinsic properties of BC(I)-CN photocatalysts, quantitative evaluation of structure-activity relationships among different organic contaminants and two photocatalysts were constructed, which provide valuable guidance for objectively evaluating the photocatalytic performance and precisely recognizing the compatibility among pollutants and photocatalysts.
Sweetness is a crucial indicator for identifying sweeteners used for flavor regulation and nutritional matching of foods. This study established a new quantitative sweetness evaluation method based on a combination of transiently transfected sweet taste receptor cells (STRs) and human sensory evaluation. Here, nine different sweeteners were evaluated and 10 sensory difference intensities and their corresponding concentrations were obtained through sensory evaluation. Using the same concentration solution as in the sensory evaluation, the dosage-response curve and EC 50 of the nine sweeteners were obtained by analyzing the intracellular calcium signal fluctuation of STRs. Data analysis revealed that the calcium signal intensity and sweetness intensity under the same concentration of sweetener presented a strong linear correlation (R 2 > 0.9). Additionally, we found a favorable correlation (R 2 = 0.8746) between the relative sweetness and EC 50 . These findings indicate that the quantitative evaluation of sweetness based on STRs could be a potential alternative to human sensory evaluation.

Superhydrophilic-underwater superoleophobic membrane has been developed as a new type of oil-water separation membrane with high separation efficiency and wide applicability. Especially in the treatment of oil-water emulsions stabilized by surfactants, such membranes show unique advantages. Therefore, a novel superhydrophilic-underwater superoleophobic membrane based on surface coating technology was purposed, through combining mathematical models with experimental studies, the law of simultaneous enhancement of membrane flux and oil-water retention was revealed, and the mechanism of membrane structure parameters affecting the separation performance was systematically explored. By a complete metal polyphenol coordination network and surface coating of a metal polyphenol hydrogel containing graphene oxide, high retention (99.72%) and high flux (800.04 L/m²·h) were achieved, and the instability of the coating layer was improved (stable flux remained after continuous operation for 90 minutes). Through Origin correlation heat map and SPSS multiple linear regression, the influence of key structural parameters on membrane separation performance was determined. The results showed that: bulk porosity (BP) and roughness (Ra) are not only the key factors affecting the flux (R 2 =0.950), but also the key factors affecting the retention rate (R 2 =0.950). Therefore, this study provides a new theoretical basis for the design of superhydrophilic-underwater superoleophobic membrane, and provides theoretical and experimental basis for the selection of parameters through the establishment of mathematical models.
