Design and Synthesis of Functional Silane-Based Silicone Resin and Application in Low-Temperature Curing Silver Conductive Inks

Zhiqiang Tang,Yanxia Liu,Yagang Zhang,Zicai Sun,Weidong Huang,Zhikai Chen,Xiaoli Jiang,Lin Zhao

In the field of flexible electronics manufacturing, inkjet printing technology is a research hotspot, and it is key to developing low-temperature curing conductive inks that meet printing requirements and have suitable functions. Herein, methylphenylamino silicon oil (N75) and epoxy-modified silicon oil (SE35) were successfully synthesized through functional silicon monomers, and they were used to prepare silicone resin 1030H with nano SiO2. 1030H silicone resin was used as the resin binder for silver conductive ink. The silver conductive ink we prepared with 1030H has good dispersion performance with a particle size of 50–100 nm, as well as good storage stability and excellent adhesion. Additionally, the printing performance and conductivity of the silver conductive ink prepared with n,n-dimethylformamide (DMF): proprylene glycol monomethyl ether (PM) (1:1) as solvent are better than those of the silver conductive ink prepared by DMF and PM solvent. Cured at a low temperature of 160 °C, the resistivity of 1030H-Ag-82%-3 conductive ink is 6.87 × 10−6Ω·m, and that of 1030H-Ag-92%-3 conductive ink is 0.564 × 10−6Ω·m, so the low-temperature curing silver conductive ink has high conductivity. The low-temperature curing silver conductive ink we prepared meets the printing requirements and has potential for practical applications. Keywords:functional silicon monomers;silicone resin;low-temperature curing;silver conductive inks

UV curable PUA ink with polymerizable surfactant-enhanced Ag@PPy for fabricating flexible and durable conductive coating on the surface of cotton fabric

Xiutian Guo,Jiale Yao,Fengxian Ji,Rui Wang,Longyun Hao

In this study, a stable silver@polypyrrole (Ag@PPy) composite was prepared with the help of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and polymerizable surfactant ammonium allyloxynonylphenol ethoxylate (DNS-86). It was then combined with polyurethane acrylate (PUA) to prepare a conductive ink and applied on the surface of cotton fabric. By an energy-saving and sustainable UV curing method, the ink was effectively fixed to fabricate flexible and durable textile. The effects of DNS-86 on the properties of Ag@PPy composite were investigated and the results showed that DNS-86 could reduce its size, make its distribution more uniform and improve its stability. Then, the effects of DNS-86 on the performance of conductive coating on fabric were analyzed by measuring the resistance and water contact angle, revealing that DNS-86 could participate in the UV film-forming reaction of PUA molecules, so as to optimize the film structure for higher conductivity. Finally, the effect of DNS-86 on the flexibility and durability of conductive coating were evaluated. The results indicated that DNS-86 could improve the structural integrity and toughness of PUA film, enhance the adhesion between conductive coating and cotton surface, and make it more resistant to various environmental erosions.

Facile Synthesis of Ag/Carbon Quantum Dots/Graphene Composites for Highly Conductive Water-Based Inks

Chaochao Gao,Wen Yu,Minghao Du,Bingxuan Zhu,Wanbao Wu,Yihong Liang,Dong Wu,Baoyu Wang,Mi Wang,Jiaheng Zhang

The development of graphene conductive inks with a high conductivity and dispersion stability in water poses considerable challenges. Herein, a highly conductive Ag/carbon quantum dots (CQDs)/graphene (G) composite with good dispersity and stability in water was prepared for the first time through the in situ photoreduction of AgNO3 and deposition of Ag onto graphene nanosheets obtained via CQD-assisted liquid-phase exfoliation. Ag nanoparticles with an average size of ∼1.88 nm were uniformly dispersed on graphene nanosheets. The Ag/CQDs/G composite exhibited good dispersity and stability in water for 30 days. The formation mechanism of the Ag/CQDs/G composites was also discussed. CQDs played a vital role in coordinating with Ag+ and reducing it under visible light conditions. The addition of only 1.58 wt % of Ag NPs to the CQDs/G film resulted in a significant decrease in the electrical resistivity by approximately 89.5%, reaching a value of 0.054 Ω cm for a 40 μm thick Ag/CQDs/G film. A low resistivity of 2.15 × 10–3 Ω cm for the Ag/CQDs/G film was achieved after rolling compression with a compression ratio of 78%. The Ag/CQDs/G film exhibited good conductivity and durability when bent, rolled, or twisted. Moreover, the resistivity of the film displayed a slight deviation after 5000 bending cycles, indicating its outstanding stability. This study provides an efficient strategy for preparing graphene-based conductive composites with good dispersibility and stability in water as well as novel high-performance conductive inks for application in flexible printed electronics.

Graphene/Carbon Nanotube Conductive Ink-Based Biomimetic Structure for Self-Powered Flexible Medical Monitoring Devices

Junyao Wang,Lixiang Li,Huan Liu,Qi Hou

Soft wearable sensing devices have attracted extensive research attention in the fields of e-skin and human health monitoring due to the advantages of integrated functions and good biocompatibility. However, existing sensors are unable to achieve a highly sensitive response over a wide sensing range. In addition, the sensors require an external power supply during utilization. To overcome this key challenge, in this paper, we propose a conductive ink of GN-CNTs prepared with graphene and carbon nanotubes as conductive fillers and N,N-dimethylformamide as the solvent. A self-powered flexible wearable sensing microsystem with a bionic round-leaf motherwort structure is constructed using a thermoplastic polyamide film as a flexible substrate. The bionic round-leaf motherwort structure (BRMS), which can reduce the stress concentration distribution, can obtain a larger tensile strain range. The prepared BRMS flexible electrodes can be used for electrocardiography (ECG) signal acquisition and recording at three different sites such as the chest, fingertip, and wrist. The flexible electrodes have a higher ECG signal amplitude and signal-to-noise ratio. The friction layer electrodes are printed with conductive ink prepared by printing GN-CNT conductive inks. Following this, a friction nanogenerator is assembled to collect low-frequency mechanical energy. Supercapacitors were prepared by an assembly process using conductive silver paste and GN-CNT conductive ink coating. There is no obvious capacitance decay phenomenon under different angles and other deformation states, and it has an excellent energy storage performance. In this sensing microsystem, strain sensors and flexible electrodes can be directly driven from a power source consisting of a friction nanogenerator and a supercapacitor. It can be used for a long time for low-power detection of human motion detection and medical ECG monitoring.

Tailoring the formulation and curing performance of low-silver conductive ink for flexible circuit applications

Li Ali,Ruan Lvquan,Gao Yan,Zhang Yiyi,Zhang Xianhao,Chen Tengfei,Qiao Yu

With the rapid advancement of flexible and wearable electronics, there is an increasing demand for conductive inks that are low-cost, low-temperature processable, and high-performance. In this study, a particle-free conductive silver ink with a low silver content (22 wt%) was developed using silver acetate as the precursor. The influence of curing conditions on the performance of printed silver electrodes was systematically examined. The ink exhibits excellent low-temperature sintering capability, achieving high electrical conductivity with a resistivity as low as 4.8 × 10 –6  Ω m at temperatures below 100 °C, showing similar properties to those of high-temperature-processed commercial inks. Characterization techniques, including four-point probe measurements, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction, revealed that the electrical conductivity of the silver electrodes is highly dependent on annealing temperature and dwell time. At 100 °C for 20 min, silver ions were reduced into continuous conductive networks, achieving a resistivity that, while higher than bulk silver, remains sufficiently low to meet the requirements of low-temperature electronic applications. Extending the annealing duration to 30 min further reduces the resistivity to 4.45 × 10 –6  Ω m. These findings provide both theoretical insights and practical reference for the low-cost manufacturing of flexible electronic applications, including wearable sensors, printed circuits, and bendable displays.

Enhanced Anti-Oxidation Copper-Based Conductive Inks for Low Porosity Copper Films in Power Electronics

Mingming Yi,Wenhui Zhu,Ping Wu,Yiou Qiu,Guoliao Sun,Liancheng Wang

Copper-based conductive inks have been extensively researched due to their low sintering temperature and high anti-oxidation properties for various electrical devices. However, the unstable oxidation properties of copper (Cu) limit its practical application. The existing anti-oxidation methods adopted in copper sintering often reduce copper strength and reliability. Therefore, the study presents a novel copper composite ink comprising copper precursors, copper microparticles, organic protective agents, and antioxidants. The sintering process is simple, requiring only 20 min at $300~^{\circ }$ C in nitrogen without any additional pressure. As a result, sintered copper with an oxidation rate of only 3.21 wt% was successfully obtained using the mixed ink of copper particles and precursors. The porosity of the sintered copper is 10.69%, which is a 71.77% reduction compared to the copper sintered by using pure copper precursor ink, due to the synergistic effect. Furthermore, the study discusses and analyzes the lattice growth mechanism and synergy mechanism of copper particles and their precursors during copper sintering.

Ultra-sensitive and robust MXene/Ag-Ag nanocomposite-based conformal temperature sensor for broad-range thermal monitoring

Yingjie Niu,Ziqi Wang,Zhenxiang Xiong,Yuanyuan Tan,Zhijian Meng,Dejin Yan,Hui Cheng,Chenglin Yi,Kaifu Zhang

Temperature sensors play a vital role in fields such as food safety, medical diagnostics, and aerospace. However, the development of conformal temperature sensors with high sensitivity, low cost, broad detection range, and reliable performance under extreme conditions remains a significant challenge due to limitations in materials and fabrication technologies. In this study, we synthesized titanium carbide/silver (MXene/Ag) nanocomposites through electrostatic adsorption and in-situ self-reduction, and formulated a hybrid ink suitable for aerosol jet printing (AJP). The MXene/Ag-Ag-0.28 % ink, prepared with the optimal MXene/Ag and Ag mass ratio, demonstrated outstanding printability with a resolution of up to 10 μm, along with excellent electrical conductivity and mechanical durability. The printed traces achieved a conductivity as high as 2.32 × 10 7 S/m, representing a 56 % improvement over traces printed with Ag ink. Furthermore, the resistance of the printed traces changed by only 2.8 % after 1000 bending cycles, which is 3.22 times more stable than Ag traces. In addition, the printed sensors exhibited a wide temperature detection range from −50 °C to 270 °C, with a response delay as short as 90 ms and a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) as high as 3.03 × 10 −3 /°C at 30 °C, which is 24 % higher than that of pure Ag ink. The sensor also demonstrated reliable responsiveness under extreme conditions such as open flame and exposure to liquid nitrogen. Moreover, high-quality conformal temperature sensors were successfully fabricated on a variety of complex curved surfaces, highlighting the advanced manufacturing capabilities of AJP. Notably, conformal sensors were also integrated onto the surface of a turning tool for real-time temperature monitoring during the machining of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP). These results offer valuable insights into the potential of AJP technology for fabricating high-performance, conformal electronic sensors.

Watered-Based Graphene Dispersion Stabilized by a Graft Co-Polymer for Electrically Conductive Screen Printing

Fengfeng Zhao,Hui Quan,Shijun Zhang,Yihui Xu,Zheng Zhou,Guangxin Chen,Qifang Li

Graphene conductive inks have attracted significant attention in recent years due to their high conductivity, corrosion resistance, and environmentally friendly nature. However, the dispersion of graphene in aqueous solution is still challenging. In this work, we synthesized an amphiphilic graft copolymer, polyvinyl alcohol-g-polyaniline (PVA-g-PANI), and studied the graphene dispersion prepared with the graft copolymer by high-speed shear dispersion. The amphiphilic graft copolymer can be used as a stabilizer and adhesive agent in graphene dispersion. Given the steric hindrance of the graft copolymer, the stability of graphene dispersion is improved by decreasing the probability of π–π stacking. PVA-g-PANI has a better stability on graphene dispersion than carboxymethylcellulose sodium (CMC-Na) and a mixture of PVA and PANI. The graft copolymer has only a slight effect on the conductivity of graphene dispersion due to the existence of conductive PANI, which is beneficial for preparing the graphene dispersion with good conductivity and adhesion. Graphene dispersion is well-adapted to screen printing and is very stable with regard to the sheet resistance bending cycle. Keywords:graphene;conductive inks;graft copolymer;aqueous solution

Design of Water-Based Conductive Inks with Enhanced Printability, Conductivity, and Anti-Fouling Ability

Caini Yang,Mushui Shu,Chunying Yuan,Tong Dou,Ling Guo,Zhizhen Xu,Jingyi Wang,Dongsheng Wang

Disposable electrochemical sensors are increasingly used in food safety, environmental monitoring fields, etc., creating strong demand for electrode conductive inks. Herein, four kinds of eco-friendly water-based inks were formulated using green polymers shellac (SHL), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium alginate (SA) as adhesives and graphite as the main conductive material. The formulated inks were suitable for electrode printing after optimizing the ratio of the adhesives and conductive materials in inks. The adhesion strength and electrochemical performance of the inks presented strong substrate dependence on PET, filter paper, printer paper and camera paper. All the inks showed obvious solid-like properties. The PEG ink had good rheological properties and high stability while maintaining high conductivity. The electrode prepared by PEG ink showed stronger water wettability and anti-fouling ability for typical foulants in environmental samples than those by the other inks. This work provides a sustainable, low-cost solution for electrochemical sensing.
