Ternary composites as electrode materials have attracted extensive attention due to their excellent electrochemical performance in energy-storage technologies as compared to single or binary composites. Herein, we demonstrated a facile two-step method to construct a new hierarchical nanocomposite by combing buckypaper (BP) with γ-MnOOH nanorods and polyaniline. BP is used as a conductive substrate for the synthesis of free-standing hierarchical electrodes. The structural characterizations revealed the growth of a hierarchical porous structure of the ternary electrode. The synthesized polyaniline@γ-MnOOH–BP ternary composite electrode shows a maximum specific capacitance of 567.5 F g−1 at a current density of 0.5 A g−1 and a relatively high areal capacitance of 301.2 mF cm−2 at a current density of 0.27 mA cm−2. This intriguing result is ascribed to the good combination of BP, γ-MnOOH, and PANI. We believe that this ternary composite electrode has potential in portable, environmentally friendly, and wearable applications for next generation energy-storage devices.

Self-assembled buckypapers have been successfully prepared using sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose (CMC) as a binder. The lowest resistivity that was reached was 0.43 ± 0.03 Ω·m, when the buckypapers were prepared by the same mass of CMC and carboxy-modified carbon nanotubes (CNTs). A heat-resistant electroconductive nanocomposite with epoxy resin as the matrix and CMC/buckypapers as the reinforcement was fabricated by a resin impregnation molding technique. The effects of CMC/buckypaper layers on the conductivity, thermal stability, and mechanical and dynamic mechanical performance of the epoxy resin polymer nanocomposites were investigated. It was found that CMC/buckypapers hold great promise for improving the properties of nanocomposites, and the buckypapers’ performance can be enhanced by using modified CNTs to prepare them. The obtained nanocomposites showed an approximate 71.23% bending strength improvement (125.04 ± 5.62 MPa) and a 30.71% bending modulus improvement (5.83 ± 0.68 GPa), with an increased number of CMC/buckypaper layers. An enhanced degradation temperature and residual mass were also achieved for the nanocomposites when compared with a pure polymer. The nanocomposites with four CMC/buckypaper layers possessed the highest storage modulus (1934 MPa), which was approximately 60% higher than that of a neat polymer (1185 MPa). Therefore, CMC/buckypapers could be effectively used to manufacture heat-resistant electroconductive polymer nanocomposites with improved properties. Keywords:cellulose;buckypapers;nanocomposites;electrical properties;mechanical properties;high-temperature properties

Herein, a series of foldable buckypaper/polyacrylonitrile (BP/PAN) composite films were developed in a facile strategy. This strategy was based on electrospun and vacuum pressurized filtration methods. The composite film had better mechanical properties than pristine BP via interface reinforcing, but not deprived of excellent conductivity. The maximum tensile strength and elongation at break of BP/PAN films were 1.45 and 11.65 times than pristine BP, respectively. Moreover, BP/PAN film had higher electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (63.7–65 dB) in the Ku band (12–18 GHz) than pristine BP (34.3–42.9 dB), due to interfaces forming between PAN fibers and CNTs. The BP/PAN composite as a promising EMI shielding material could be utilized in military and civil applications, such as flexible antenna, EMI shielding clothes and soft portable electronic products.

Polycarbosilane nanofiber-ferroferric oxide (PCS nf -Fe 3 O 4 ) films were assembled on both sides of carbon nanotube-polyaniline buckypaper (CNT-PANI BP) by electrospinning to obtain PCS nf -Fe 3 O 4 /CNT-PANI BP/PCS nf -Fe 3 O 4 sandwich porous composites, with a diameter of 110–120 mm and a thickness of 150–200 µm. The Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles adhered on the PCS nanofibers formed a bamboo-like or plum-like structure. The PANI nanoparticles were uniformly embedded in the CNT network. Both PCS nf -Fe 3 O 4 film skin layers were well bonded to the CNT-PANI BP core layer, with two main forms of the interlayer interface of rattan-like and root-like entanglement. The sandwich composite film (SCF) with 15.1 wt% Fe 3 O 4 in the skin layers had a density of 0.97 g/cm 3 , a porosity of 61% and a total pore area of 30.1 m 2 /g, with a multimodal pore size distribution. The SCFs were superflexible, being tightly wound around a 4 mm diameter glass rod and repeated 100 times without damage. The absorption performance of the SCF was significantly improved by introducing Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles into its skin layers. The SCF with 11.8 wt% Fe 3 O 4 in its skin layers achieved optimal dielectric and magnetic loss matching, with minimum reflection loss of − 43.54 dB and maximum effective absorption bandwidth of 6.97 GHz.
