MgO–Al 2 O 3 -supported metallic Ni and bimetallic Ni–Zn catalysts (referred as Ni/MgAl and Ni x Zn/MgAl with the Ni/Zn atomic ratio of x , respectively) were prepared by the coprecipitation method, and their performance for methane dry reforming (DRM) was tested on an atmospheric quartz fixed-bed. The XRD, magnetic measurement, H 2 -TPR, TEM/EDS and XPS results demonstrate that metallic Ni and Ni–Zn alloy form in Ni/MgAl and Ni x Zn/MgAl, respectively. With reducing the Ni/Zn atomic ratio, the amount of surface Ni sites decreases, while the CO 2 adsorption capacity and strength increase due to the presence of Zn. Ni x Zn/MgAl gives higher activity than Ni/MgAl for DRM, mainly due to the suppression of carbon deposition and graphitization on Ni–Zn alloy and the enhanced adsorption of CO 2 . Under the condition of 800 °C, CH 4 /CO 2 molar ratio of 1 and weight hourly space velocity of 20,000 mL g cat −1 h −1 , Ni/MgAl gives the CH 4 and CO 2 conversions of 76% and 80%, respectively. With decreasing Ni/Zn atomic ratio from 7 to 2, the CH 4 and CO 2 conversions on Ni x Zn/MgAl first increase and then decrease, and Ni 5 Zn/MgAl has the highest activity with the CH 4 and CO 2 conversions of 81% and 87%, respectively. During the time on stream of 100 h at 800 °C, Ni 5 Zn/MgAl exhibits better stability than Ni/MgAl, mainly ascribed to its less amount of filamentous graphite carbon. In all, the formation of Ni–Zn alloy enhances the catalyst activity and remarkably suppresses the graphitization of carbonaceous deposit.

Dry reforming of methane (DRM) is a chemical reaction with great potential to convert CH 4 and CO 2 into valuable syngas. However, catalyst deactivation due to sintering and coking is a major obstacle for practical applications. Here, we synthesized a hollow tubular Ni/La 2 O 3 -ES catalyst via electrospinning (ES) method that surpasses conventional Ni/La 2 O 3 catalysts in both activity and stability. The ES-driven architecture creates confinement-stabilized Ni nanoparticles with improved metal-support interaction and spatial uniformity, achieving 93 % CO 2 conversion and 85.0 % CH 4 conversion at 800 °C for 20 h of continuous operation, providing long-lasting performance with no accumulation of carbon deposition. The carbon removal ability is strengthened in the Ni/La 2 O 3 -ES catalyst as evidenced by the CH 4 -CO 2 -TPSR experiments. Ni/La 2 O 3 -ES catalyst prefer to produce more active intermediates b-HCOO* as indicated in in situ DRIFTS spectra. The b-HCOO* species served as the key reactive intermediate that facilitated both CO 2 activation and the oxidative transformation of CH 4 -derived carbonaceous intermediates on catalytic surface. Additionally, the catalyst prepared by electrospinning method promoted lattice oxygen release and oxygen vacancy formation, thereby exhibiting superior catalytic activity and stability.

Non-noble metal-based catalysts used for dry reforming of methane (DRM) undergo extensive deactivation, mainly because of the carbon deposition. Herein, the conventional NiCo-CNFs catalyst was modified by minor Mo promoter for facilitating CO and H 2 produced from DRM. This not only improves the catalytic stability of the catalyst, with CH 4 conversion up to 97.7 % after 720 min at 850 ℃, but also reduces the generation of carbon deposition. The addition of an appropriate amount of Mo enhanced the metal-support interaction, and formed Mo 2 C in the reaction. The generation of Mo 2 C also provided more active sites for DRM reaction, which is also benefited to NiCoMo 0.1 -CNFs catalyst exhibited optimal activity and stability. The reaction pathway of NiCoMo 0.1 -CNFs catalyst in DRM reaction was elucidated through in-situ DRIFTS, and the activation mechanism of the catalyst for CH 4 and CO 2 was revealed. This study revealed the key role of Mo 2 C, providing a feasible solution for inhibiting carbon deposition and improving the catalytic stability of DRM reactions.

The catalytic activity of DRM reaction over 1M-1Co-1Ce/AC-N (M = Ca and Mg) catalysts was investigated at 800 °C and under atmospheric pressure. By promoting N-doped activated carbon supported Co-Ce catalysts with alkaline-earth metals to obtain catalysts with better catalytic performance is the main purpose of study. The catalysts were prepared by wet-impregnation method and the influence of impregnation sequence on catalytic performance was also studied. The characterization was conducted using TPR, TPD , XPS, TEM and Raman. The catalyst 1Ca-1Co-1Ce/AC-N promoted with Ca and prepared by co-impregnation exhibited higher catalytic activity than unmodified. This was mainly due to the stronger interaction between metal and support as well as better active metals dispersion. The 1Ca-1Co-1Ce/AC-N catalysts also displayed excellent stability and XPS results indicated that higher Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ and O β /(O α +O β ) ratios were observed on this catalyst. However, the catalyst 1Co-1Ce/1Ca/AC-N prepared with sequential impregnation exhibited poor stability. In addition, the TEM of the spent catalysts revealed that there were a large number of carbons were generated on active metal surface.
