Declining fossil fuel reserves and fluctuating petroleum prices have prompted global research efforts to develop clean, renewable, and sustainable alternatives to traditional fossil fuels. In this study, a reusable and eco-friendly activation catalyst was designed by combining KOH with a polymer. A series of three polymer catalysts were synthesized, and their catalytic activities were compared with those of COP-KOH, COP-K 3 PO 4 and COP-KF. It was found that the prepared COP-KOH catalyst showed the highest activity. The catalyst was characterized by FT-IR, which confirmed the presence of potassium support successfully coordinated on the COP. Additional analyses included N 2 and BET, XPS, SEM, mapping, and basicity measurement by ICP analysis. The prepared catalysts a possessed mesoporous structure, high surface area of 4.2961 m 2 /g −1 , pore volume of 2.2439 m 2 /g −1 , and high basicity. Here, the activity and stability of the potassium modified mesoporous polymer COP-KOH catalyst in green fuel synthesis from waste fried sunflower oil was evaluated. The green fuel conversion rate of 96.42 % was achieved under optimal reaction conditions, with a molar ratio of 6:1 methanol to fried sunflower oil, a catalyst concentration of 85 wt%, a reaction temperature of 61 °C, and a reaction time of 4.5 h. A satisfactory yield of 92.1 % was obtained after use for four consecutive cycles without significant deactivation, and after the fourth cycle catalyst was reactivated with KOH. The characteristic differences in the FT-IR results of the fresh catalyst, used catalyst, and re-activated COP-KOH catalyst, indicated the mode of interaction between the catalyst and reactants. The kinetics of the transesterification reaction was also determined, and the activation energy was found to range from 20.9 to 23.4 kJ . mol −1 . The properties of the green fuel were found to be in good agreement with the ASTM D6571-02 standard. The catalyst is recyclable, and using inexpensive feedstock makes the overall process more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Lipase-catalyzed transesterification is a promising and sustainable approach to producing biodiesel. To achieve highly efficient conversion of heterogeneous oils, combining the specificities and advantages of different lipases is an attractive strategy. To this end, highly activeThermomyces lanuginosuslipase (1,3-specific) and stableBurkholderia cepacialipase (non-specific) were covalently co-immobilized on 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (3-GPTMS) modified Fe3O4magnetic nanoparticles (co-BCL-TLL@Fe3O4). The co-immobilization process was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The obtained co-BCL-TLL@Fe3O4exhibited a significant improvement in activity and reaction rate compared with mono and combined-use lipases, achieving 92.9% yield after 6 h under optimal conditions, while individually immobilized TLL, immobilized BCL and their combinations exhibited yields of 63.3%, 74.2% and 70.6%, respectively. Notably, co-BCL-TLL@Fe3O4achieved 90–98% biodiesel yields after 12 h using six different feedstocks, demonstrating the perfect synergistic effect of BCL and TLL remarkably motivated in co-immobilization. Furthermore, co-BCL-TLL@Fe3O4could maintain 77% of initial activity after nine cycles by removing methanol and glycerol from catalyst surface, accomplished by washing witht-butanol. The high catalytic efficiency, wide substrate adaptability and favorable reusability of co-BCL-TLL@Fe3O4suggest that it will be an economical and effective biocatalyst for further applications.Keywords:biodiesel;lipase;co-immobilization;process optimization;waste oils

The disposal of waste oil, paint and coating barrels (WOPCBs) after use is an ongoing social and environmental problem. In this paper, a novel technological scheme using steel converter co-processing is proposed for the safe disposal and resource utilization of WOPCBs. The scheme is mainly composed of WOPCBs pretreatment and converter disposal, focusing on the impact of converter co-processing WOPCBs on the environment and production process. Compared to the traditional technology, the scheme presented takes full advantages of the production process and environmental protection facilities of steel converter, and has many advantages, such as a large disposal capacity, low cost, highly efficient and environmentally friendly. The industrial trials results show that after adding 180–540 kg WOPCBs to each furnace load (nominal capacity 250 t), the converter operation is safe and controllable, and all the pollutant emission indicators generated in the process meet the Chinese national standards. In addition, WOPCBs are suitable to be used as a supplementary material for scrap steel. Therefore, this study provides important insights for sustainable resource utilization from WOPCBs.

A significant quantity of oil absorbents is annually used for addressing oil spill incidents, yet limited attention has been devoted to repurposing these discarded materials in a high-value manner. Within this study, a waste utilization method was proposed for fabricating supercapacitor (SC) electrodes using recycled biomass-based aerogel oil absorbents. Biomass-based aerogels exhibited a three-dimensional cross-linked network architecture characterized by high porosity and large pore size, which enhanced electron conduction and provided sufficient channels for rapid ion transport, thereby ensuring effective contact between the carbon electrode and electrolyte. The crude oil adhering to the aerogel pore surfaces facilitated the disorder, enhanced surface wettability, promoted the mesopore formation during carbonization and activation, and induced pseudocapacitance of the carbon electrode through the effective oxygen-containing groups. Resultantly, the synthesized carbon electrodes demonstrated a substantial specific surface area (>2600 m2 g–1) and pore volume (>1.35 cm3 g–1). The electrode exhibited a specific capacitance of 323.9 F g–1 at 1 A g–1 in a three-electrode system. The assembled symmetric SC attained a specific energy density of 17.3 W h kg–1 at 350.2 W kg–1 in 6 M KOH and 48.8 W h kg–1 at 350.4 W kg–1 in 1 M tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate/propylene carbonate. The specific capacitance remained stable at 99% after 30,000 cycles in an all-solid-state electrolyte. In addition, the high-mass loading electrode retained its capacitance by up to 96.6% after 10,000 cycles in 6 M KOH. This study delivers an innovative approach for electrode material preparation for advanced energy storage devices utilizing discarded oil absorbents.
