Graphical Corrosion of aluminum current collector is critical to the aging of lithium-ion batteries, particularly with lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide based electrolyte. Our results show that corrosion currents in aluminum increase with cycling time and potential, correlating with changes in surface chemistry and morphology. Our findings provide valuable insights for advancing the development of lithium-ion batteries with long lifespan. Cycling aging is the one of the main reasons affecting the lifetime of lithium-ion batteries and the contribution of aluminum current collector corrosion to the ageing is not fully recognized. In general, aluminum is corrosion resistant to electrolyte since a non-permeable surface film of alumina is naturally formed. However, corrosion of aluminum current collector can still occur under certain conditions such as lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI)-based electrolyte or high voltage. Herein, we investigates the corrosion of aluminum current collector in the electrolyte of 1.2 M LiFSI in ethylene carbonate (EC) and ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) mixed solvents. The electrochemical results shows that the corrosion current of aluminum is enhanced by cycling time and potential, which is correlated with the surface species and morphology. The formation of AlF 3 , which is induced by deep penetration of F − anions through surface passivation film, leads to internal volume change and the surface crack in the end. Our work will be inspiring for future development of high-energy-density and high-power-density lithium-ion batteries in which the LiFSI salt will be intensively used.
Accurate failure analysis plays a pivotal role in the optimization design and lifetime prediction of 4.45 V high-voltage LiCoO 2 /Graphite (LCO/Gr) batteries . Multiphysics coupling model brings great opportunities to conduct battery failure analysis quantitatively, although it is quite challenging because many model parameters need to be handled properly. Herein, we systematically elaborate the differences of ion and electron transport properties before and after cycling ageing of LCO/Gr batteries by constructing direct current internal resistance (DCR) decomposition model. The key parameters acquisition method is established, and the mechanism of DCR growth is elucidated. Furthermore, the aforementioned model parameters are refined by using a hybrid power pulse characteristics (HPPC) curve optimization algorithm based on DCR decomposition results obtained from the three-electrode battery system. Through analyzing the influence of single-factor parameter ageing on battery voltage output capacity and discharge temperature rise, the main factors affecting battery failure process are identified. For instance, the account of the positive electrochemical reaction resistance related to the k pos increased from the initial 22.9% of total DCR to 37.3% after ageing. This work provides a reliable quantitative analysis basis for the global optimization design of advanced LIBs .
The development of highly efficient and stable catalytic oxidation materials is crucial for diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems. In this study, a series of CePrLa x O δ ( x = 0.1–0.5) catalysts with different lanthanum loadings are synthesized using an impregnation method. The influence of high-temperature aged (12 h at 800 °C) and cyclic aged (6 cycles) on the catalytic performance for soot oxidation is investigated. Characterization results suggest that the introduction of lanthanum effectively inhibits catalyst particle agglomeration and high-temperature sintering, while promoting the formation of oxygen vacancies. The catalytic activity tests indicate that Ce 0.63 Pr 0.07 La 0.3 O δ displays significantly better performance after high-temperature aged and cyclic aged. Compared with the undoped lanthanum, the peak temperature (T p ) is reduced by approximately 190 °C and 128 °C, respectively. The prepared catalyst exhibits outstanding carbon soot oxidation stability, significantly enhancing the aged resistance of CeO 2 -based catalysts. This provides crucial evidence for its practical application in Catalytic Diesel Particulate Filters (CDPFs).
