The strong N N bond, notoriously difficult to dissociate, has long posed a significant challenge to ammonia synthesis under mild conditions, typically requiring high temperatures and pressures. Here, Ru-supported Sr-based perovskite/CNT core/shell composites were developed as microwave-responsive catalysts for ammonia synthesis. Leveraging their exceptional microwave responsiveness, Ru/SrCeO 3 /CNT achieved an NH 3 production rate of 1.04 mmol·(g·h) −1 at 300 °C and 0.1 MPa, with no deactivation observed after 72 h. The energy consumption reached 0.10 MJ·(mol·g) −1 at 30 W much lower than the recent research on microwave ammonia synthesis. The core/shell architecture facilitated in-situ heat generation from the CNT core, enhancing interfacial reactions on Ru nanoparticles. Furthermore, XPS and H 2 -TPR analyses revealed that oxygen vacancies and strong interfacial interactions in the SrCeO 3 support boosted the electron-donating capacity of Ru active sites, promoting N N bond cleavage. This work offers a scalable, energy-efficient strategy for sustainable ammonia production.

Eradication of osteomyelitis caused by bacterial infections is still a major challenge. Microwave therapy has the inherent advantage of deep penetration in curing deep tissue infections. However, the antibacterial efficiency of sensitizers is limited by the weak energy of microwaves. Here, a hybrid heterojunction system (Fe 3 O 4 /CuS/Emo) is designed for curing bacterially infected osteomyelitis. As an enhanced microwave sensitizer, it shows supernormal microwave response ability. Specifically, Fe 3 O 4 acts as a matrix to mediate magnetic loss. After CuS loading, the heterogeneous interface forms induce significant interfacial polarization, which increasing dielectric loss. On the basis of the heterojunction formed by the two semiconductors, emodin is innovatively introduced to modify it. This integration not only accelerates the movement of charge carriers but also enhances polarization loss due to the numerous functional groups present on the surface. This further optimizes the microwave thermal and catalytic response. In addition, the unique anti-inflammatory properties of emodin confer the ability of hybrid heterojunction to regulate the immune microenvironment. In vivo studies reveal that heterojunction modified by emodin programmed elimination of bacteria and regulation of the immune microenvironment. It offers a revolutionary approach to the treatment of bacterial osteomyelitis.

The increasingly complex electromagnetic (EM) environment necessitates advanced electrically controllable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials that can adapt to varying EM conditions. This study develops a flexible electrochemically tunable EMI shielding device based on ultrathin Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene films, exhibiting reversible shielding effectiveness (SE) modulation from 18.9 to 26.2 dB in X band at 0.1 and −1.5 V. Unlike the previously reported mechanism relying on interlayer spacing adjustments, the work leverages transformations of charging state and surface chemistry for tunability during the electrochemical process. The Ti 3 C 2 T x flake size is also evidenced to play a crucial role, with smaller flakes offering higher absorption modulation despite lower SE modulation, enabling the device with high designability. When integrated with Salisbury screen structure, the device achieves adjustable absorption from 93.560% at 0.1 V to 99.996% at −1 V, showing a tunable reflection suppression ratio up to 32 dB with an effective bandwidth of 4.2 GHz. Additionally, incorporating resonant cavity structure enables absorption-dominated (over 90%) microwave-responsive switching at 0.1 and −1.5 V. This work highlights significant potential of adaptive EMI shielding materials for applications in smart electronic protection, EM switch, and radar camouflage.

The exploration of the dielectric properties of waste hydrodesulfurization catalysts has important guiding significance for the development of microwave heat treatment of waste hydrodesulfurization catalysts for the recovery of valuable metals. The resonant cavity perturbation technique was used to measure the dielectric properties of waste catalyst and the mixture of waste catalyst and Na 2 CO 3 during roasting from room temperature to 700 °C at 2450 MHz. The heating properties of the waste catalyst and mixture of waste catalyst and Na 2 CO 3 were determined in the microwave field. The results show that the waste catalyst and the mixture of waste catalyst and Na 2 CO 3 exhibit strong microwave response capability, and the dielectric constant, dielectric loss factor, and dielectric loss tangent increase with increasing temperature; from 20 to 300 °C, the waste catalyst and the mixture of waste catalyst and Na 2 CO 3 heated at a slower rate, while the material heated rapidly from 300 to 700 °C. In addition, the mechanism of microwave action has been proposed based on the study of dielectric properties and heating properties in the microwave field.

Precise utilization of microscale localized heat to enhance catalytic reactions and nanomaterial preparation requires insights into the effects of external microscale heat transfer and key process factors on its formation and quantitative regulation. Here, we innovatively developed microwave-responsive nanoencapsulated fluorescence thermometers (MNFT S ) as a research platform with regular shapes, excellent thermosensitive fluorescent properties, and adjustable MW-absorbing properties that enable the precise fluorescence thermometry and flexible creation of micro-localized hotspots, allowing the systematical investigation of microscale localized heat regulation in chemical production. In-situ observations of MNFTs revealed that localized thermal convection induced by solid–liquid temperature differences and solvent warming reduced the overheating of the microscale hotspot by 38%. In comparison, the hotspot intensity maintained only 10% of its initial value under forced convection, emphasizing the importance of external microscale heat transfer in quantitatively regulating microscale localized heat. Subsequently, an innovatively developed and rigorously validated theoretical model accurately elucidated the key influencing factors and quantitative regulation mechanisms of MW-induced microscale hotspots, facilitating the precise regulation of microscale hotspots in MW-assisted catalytic reactions, material synthesis, and chemical separation processes. This fundamental research advanced our understanding of quantitatively regulating microscale localized heat, promoting its better application in chemical production.

The development of intelligent platforms capable of precisely targeting cancer cells while minimizing toxic side effects on normal tissues remains a significant challenge in medical applications. This study proposes a structurally innovative bipedal Janus nanocarrier (Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 &dmSiO 2 /FA) for intelligent drug delivery. The architecture integrates magnetic-responsive and microwave (MW)-responsive Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 (core@shell) components with anisotropic growth bipedal mesoporous silica (dmSiO 2 ), the latter being modified with folic acid (FA) targeting ligands. This design achieves dual-mode tumor targeting by concurrently enabling FA-mediated active recognition and magnetic field-guided navigation. The system demonstrates drug release behavior orchestrated through the synergistic interplay between endogenous tumor microenvironmental stimuli (pH 5.3) and exogenous MW irradiation. MTT assays revealed that doxorubicin-loaded nanocarriers exhibit significant cytotoxicity under MW exposure, achieving over 80% proliferation inhibition in multiple cancer cell lines. These results position this nanocarrier as a promising candidate for effective cancer therapy.

In this paper, a new Janus-structured nano drug delivery carrier Fe3O4@TiO2&mSiO2 was designed and synthesized, which consisted of a spherical head and a closely connected rod. The head was a nanocomposite of core/shell structure with magnetic spinel ferric tetraoxide core and anatase titanium dioxide shell (Fe3O4@TiO2), and the rod was ordered mesoporous silica (mSiO2). The nanocarriers showed excellent magnetic targeting capability (saturation magnetization, 25.18 emu g-1). The core/shell heads endowed the carriers with fine microwave responsiveness. The pore volume of mesoporous nanocarriers was 0.101 cm3 g-1, and the specific surface area was 489.0 m2 g-1. Anticancer drug doxorubicin could be loaded in the mesoporous of the carriers to form Fe3O4@TiO2&mSiO2-DOX. The drug loading capacity was 10.4%. Fe3O4@TiO2&mSiO2-DOX exhibited acid-sensitive and microwavesensitive release properties along with good bio-compatibility. Fe3O4@TiO2&mSiO2 Janus nanoparticles are expected to be ideal drug carriers.

The hypoxic environment of deep tissue and the weak energy of microwave (MW) are still the major limitations of MW catalytic therapy. In this work, an MW-responsive nano-platform consisting of an Mn-doped porphyrin metal–organic framework loaded with calcium peroxide (Mn 0.1 PCC) is designed to regulate the microenvironment of the injection site and enhance the generation of reactive oxygen species. The excellent MW absorbing properties of Mn 0.1 PCC improve the Fenton reaction between hydrogen peroxide formed by the hydrolysis of calcium peroxide and released Mn 2+ generating more hydroxyl radicals under MW. This process does not consume the oxygen substrate and even produces oxygen to improve the hypoxic environment. Therefore, at a low and safe concentration (125 µg mL −1 ), the antibacterial rate of Mn 0.1 PCC against 4 × 10 8 CFU mL −1 of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) after MW irradiation for 15 min is 99.71% ± 0.18%. Mn 0.1 PCC, upon exposure to MW, prevents the recurrence of bacterial infections and overcomes drug resistance by inhibiting quorum sensing and the two-component system of MRSA. It can also induce macrophage M1 polarization, up-regulate the pro-inflammatory factor tumor necrosis factor-α, and enhance the phagocytosis of macrophage to bacteria. This strategy provides insights into the development of high-performance MW-responsive nanocomposites for the treatment of infections in deep tissues.
