In recent years, all-inorganic cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) perovskites have garnered considerable attention for their prospective applications in green photonics and optoelectronic devices. However, the development of efficient and economical methods to obtain high-quality micron-sized single-crystalline CsPbBr3microplatelets (MPs) has become a challenge. Here, we report the synthesis of CsPbBr3MPs on Si/SiO2substrate by optimizing the ultrafast antisolvent method (FAS). This technique is able to produce well-dispersed, uniformly sized, and morphologically regular tetragonal phase single crystals, which can give strong green emission at room temperature, with excellent stability and excitonic character. Moreover, the crystals demonstrated lasing with a whispering gallery mode with a low threshold. These results suggest that the single-crystalline CsPbBr3MPs synthesized by this method are of high optical quality, holding vast potential for future applications in photonic devices. Keywords:perovskites;fast growth;microstructures;lasing;photonics

Hydrate-based CO2 sequestration (HBCS) technology is one promising method for reducing the CO2 level in the atmosphere for climate mitigation. However, the sluggish kinetics and low conversion rate of the CO2 hydrate hindered its practical applications. This study presents an innovative approach by coupling magnesium (Mg) with an amino acid l-leucine (l-Leu) to speed up the CO2 hydrate nucleation and realize the ultrarapid CO2 growth in the static system. The addition of a Mg sheet speeds up CO2 hydrate nucleation, resulting in an induction time less than 10 s compared with traditional ∼10 h in a static system. The coupling Mg sheet with l-Leu (1.0 wt %) shows optimal synergistic promotion effects on both CO2 hydrate nucleation and growth. The resulting final CO2 gas uptake is 78.9 Vg/Vw compared with 67.8 Vg/Vw without Mg. However, the t90 used is significantly shortened to 1.4 h compared with a t90 of 13.0 h without Mg. We further analyzed the possible promotion mechanism of Mg using a series of analytical methods, including Mg sheet surface morphology observation with element composition analysis, gas phase compositions analysis by GC and Mg2+ concentration in aqueous phase by ICP-MS. Corrosion of the Mg sheet surface is observed based on SEM images. A significant reduction of Mg is identified in the element composition analysis with additional C and N after corrosion. A small trace of hydrogen (∼1%) is identified in the gas phase with the Mg2+ in solution reaching 68 mg/L. Based on the experimental evidence, we propose that the abundant H2 bubbles released from the surface of the Mg sheet due to corrosion in the acidic environment of CO2 solution are one critical factor explaining the ultrarapid nucleation observed. Our study demonstrated that employing Mg corrosion to assist the nucleation of CO2 hydrate is effective in the static system and the coupling of amino acid can further enhance CO2 hydrate kinetics. The developed method can also be utilized for other hydrate-based technologies, such as flue gas separation and hydrogen storage, by coupling Mg with suitable promoters.

Fast-growing wood is widely used in plywood production due to its short growth cycle and low cost. However, its loose fiber structure, inferior material quality, and high flammability significantly limit the application range of plywood products and hinder high-value utilization. This paper reports a simple method for modifying fast-growing wood veneers. We modified phenolic resin with Mg(OH)₂@nano-silica composite particles and impregnated it into the veneers, constructing an organic-inorganic hybrid dual-network structure on both the surface and interior of the veneers. The plywood prepared from the modified veneers exhibited a bending strength of 115.6 MPa, a modulus of elasticity of 9.7 GPa, and a wet shear strength of 2.1 MPa, representing increases of 86.1 %, 47.0 %, and 90.9 %, respectively, compared to plywood made from unmodified veneers. Additionally, the peak heat release rate decreased by 15.3 %, and the ignition time was extended to 26 s. The uniformly distributed inorganic network effectively mitigated stress concentration and, together with the phenolic resin, formed an efficient thermal insulation layer, enhancing the flame retardancy of the material. This study offers a simple and effective treatment method for reinforcing fast-growing wood veneers, promoting the use of fast-growing wood in high-performance applications.

To solve the problem that the self-generated proppant in fractures grows slowly and cannot support the fractures in time, nano-graphite (NG) was introduced into a phase change liquid (PCL) composed of “styrene-divinylbenzene (SDB)” and the resulting self-generated proppants were constructed with a high growth speed. The NG/PCL started the phase transition from liquid to solid after 8 min at about 55°C in the wellbore section, and the phase transition was completed for only 2.5 min at a constant temperature of 65°C in fracture. Moreover, due to the high thermal conductivity and heterogeneous nucleation of the NG powder, the maximum strength of self-generated proppant in the NG-containing system can reach about 56.2 N during its growth process, which is 34.4% higher than that of pure SDB. The yield of the well-dispersed spherical self-generated proppants NG/SDB under the completely static condition can reach about 80%, of which the proppants with a particle size of 0.4 ~ 0.7 mm account for about 80%. NG/SDB exhibited an ultra-low apparent density of approximately 1.004 g/cm 3 , high compressive strength, and a crushing ratio of less than 1% at a closure pressure of 52 MPa, which is lower than that of commercial quartz sand and ceramsite proppants. Highlights Self-generated proppants with rapid growth were developed by the introduction of NG. Positive effects of NG in PCL system are obvious on phase transition and growth. NG/SDB is qualified in phase transition timing and compressive strength. The single-microsphere yield of NG/SDB is about 80%. The crushing ratio of NG/SDB as low as 3.92% at a closure pressure of 69 MPa.

A novel, environmentally friendly, biomass-based modification technique utilizing carboxymethylation-activated alkali lignin (CAAL) and glutaraldehyde (GA) is proposed to enhance the physical and mechanical properties of poplar and fir wood. Water-soluble CAAL was prepared by modifying alkali lignin (AL) with sodium chloroacetate following low-temperature activation under a NaOH/urea system. AL is a biomass-based material from industrial by-products. As such, it does not rely on fossil resources nor emit volatile compounds that might limit its range of application. The successful preparation of CAAL was demonstrated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), and 13 C NMR, and the changes in structure were analyzed by 2D-heteronuclear singular quantum correlation (2D-HSQC), 31 P NMR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The following characteristics of the modified wood samples were investigated in detail: weight percent gain (WPG), bulking, anti-swelling efficiency (ASE), water absorption rate (WAR), leachability of the modifier, microstructure, and mechanical properties. Water immersion results demonstrated that the CAAL/GA hybrid modifier enhanced ASE to 41.3% and 31.5% for fir and poplar, respectively, at a concentration of 15 wt.%. Furthermore, the WAR of fir was reduced by nearly three times to 30.7%, compared to that of a control sample treated solely with GA. GA-treated samples showed high brittleness, whereas both poplar and fir showed enhanced modulus of rupture and elasticity following treatment with the CAAL/GA hybrid modifier.

An ultrafast and surfactant-free synthetic route on high yield of bimetallic alloy nanopeanuts (e.g., Au/Ag and Pt/Pd) was discovered in one pot of boiling aqueous solution (125 °C). The other half of peanut underwent longitudinal growth starting from a certain {111} plane of slightly inert metal seed and then radial expansive growth with the predominant {200} plane, while their size and shape can be facilely tuned by precisely control the dosage of the reactants.
