Inorganic scintillation crystals have been widely used in applications of high-energy physics, nuclear medical imaging, industrial nondestructive inspection, etc. In this work, a single crystal Ba3Y(PO4)3(BYP) with 1.0 at% Ce3+-doping concentration was first grown by the Czochralski method, and the electronic structure was calculated using first principles based on density functional theory. In addition, a series of Ce3+-doped BYP phosphors were synthesized, and the fluorescence emission under UV excitation was measured through low-temperature spectroscopy, containing double-peaked emission from 5d–4f transition and self-trapped exciton recombination. A comparison of the UV and X-ray-excited fluorescence spectra reveals the existence of oxygen vacancies as well as F+ centers in the crystal. The air annealing of the crystal effectively reduces the thermoluminescence defects but reduces the emission intensity under UV or X-ray excitation. The BYP:Ce crystal shows a fast decay lifetime of 15.5 ns, and the fast component is as short as 8 ns. The results show that the Ce3+-doped BYP crystal has potential as a kind of scintillator with fast decay properties.

Copper(I) halide perovskite Cs 3 Cu 2 I 5 has recently attracted tremendous interest and has been considered an exceptionally promising scintillator due to its high quantum yield. However, its slow scintillation decay time, previously considered an intrinsic property, is a significant drawback preventing its practical application and commercialization. But in this work, it is found that the high-quality Cs 3 Cu 2 I 5 single-crystal grown by the designed aqueous solution method surprisingly exhibits a fast scintillation decay time of 39 ns (82%), quite different from previous reports. This subversive change may be due to the high crystal quality with denser 0D structure and low trap density (6.41 × 10 8 cm –3 ), changing the excited-state structural deformation and accelerating the recombination of electrons and holes while directly reducing the prolongation of decay time caused by inherent defects. Moreover, the single-crystal with a rocking curve FWHM value of only 50.4˝ has a high optical transmittance (85%), a very high absolute photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY, 97.76%), superior environmental stability, and excellent light-yield and energy resolution under different γ-ray sources ( 241 Am, 60 Co, 22 Na, 137 Cs, 152 Eu). These extraordinary properties pave the way for the subsequent development of practical applications.
A scintillation screen with ultrahigh spatial resolution, fast decay time, and high stability is the key to commercial application. Herein, a pixelated-structure scintillation screen of CsPbBr 3 nanocrystal arrays based on anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) is reported, and its scintillation properties for X-ray imaging are explored. It is of note that ultrahigh spatial resolution (2 µm), fast photoluminescence decay time (9 ns), and high stability (>42 d) are successfully achieved by the pixelated CsPbBr 3 -AAO arrays scintillation screen. Considering the decent scintillation properties and high stability, one has reason to assume that the pixelated CsPbBr 3 -AAO arrays scintillation screen may find an application as a new X-ray scintillation screen.
