Direct Writing of Shape-Gradient Magnetic Alloy Microwire Arrays with Meniscus-Confined Electrodeposition Process

Weiye Nie,Yu Lei,Yifan Zhang,Qingqing Gao,Jiangang Chen,Xianyun Zhang,Lifeng Yuan,Yuchuan Cheng,Aihua Sun,Gang Wang,Gaojie Xu,Jianjun Guo

Gradient magnetic micro/nanowire arrays have attracted widespread attention due to their interesting properties. However, fabricating such an ordered array of gradient micro/nanowires with controllable diameters and compositions is still a great challenge to most of the current methods. Here, meniscus-confined electrodeposition (MCED) technique is adopted for the rapid prototyping of the shape-gradient magnetic Cu/Co-alloy microwire arrays by adjusting the printing speed continuously, which provides a novel idea for the preparation and performance research of shape-gradient magnetic alloy microwire arrays with well-defined structures. It is found that the key to fabricating controllable gradient alloy micro/nano structures by increasing the printing speed is to continuously stretch the meniscus within the stable range of the meniscus. In the range of incremental speed in this study, the shape-gradient magnetic alloy wires with stable and uniform compositions and dense internal structures can be successfully prepared, and the gradient ratio can be adjusted from 0 to about 0.025. Compared with the uniform-diameter array, the shape-gradient magnetic alloy array shows an improvement in remanence and coercive force.

Accelerated refilling speed in rapid stereolithography based on nano-textured functional release film

Li Wang,Yu Luo,Zhiqiang Yang,Wanjing Dai,Xiaoyang Liu,Jingyuan Yang,Bingheng Lu,Lijia Chen

Nowadays, along with the demand for new technologies and new materials, a revolution in 3D printing technology is emerging. In recent years, stereolithography 3D printing has been widely used in both academia and industry, due to its fast forming speed, high precision, and low-cost advantages. The continuous liquid interface production technology has made the printing speed even faster. However, the process of resin refilling constrains the printing speed and the printing capabilities of such technologies, since only hollow structures can be fabricated. In this study, a nano-textured hydrophobic PDMS contacting layer and an oxygen-permeable membrane were bonded together as the functional release film. The oxygen inhibition layer was successfully maintained by the molecular oxygen permeated through the composite release film, achieving rapid stereolithography, and key factors that affecting resin refilling are selectively studied by the orthogonal experiment. Crucially, according to the simulation and experimental results, the adoption of the hydrophobic nano-texture not only increased the refilling speed of the resin by two times and reduced the printing time by nearly 25%, but also improved the printing reliability by reducing the vacuum (negative pressure) caused by the original slow refilling speed. Additionally, optical simulations also demonstrated that the nano-texture would not influence the curing effect of the resin. This work proposed a promising strategy for rapid stereolithography of 3D models containing larger cross-sectional areas.

Efficient 3D printing via photooxidation of ketocoumarin based photopolymerization

Zhao Xiaoyu,Zhao Ye,Li Ming-De,Li Zhong’an,Peng Haiyan,Xie Tao,Xie Xiaolin

Photopolymerization-based three-dimensional (3D) printing can enable customized manufacturing that is difficult to achieve through other traditional means. Nevertheless, it remains challenging to achieve efficient 3D printing due to the compromise between print speed and resolution. Herein, we report an efficient 3D printing approach based on the photooxidation of ketocoumarin that functions as the photosensitizer during photopolymerization, which can simultaneously deliver high print speed (5.1 cm h −1 ) and high print resolution (23 μm) on a common 3D printer. Mechanistically, the initiating radical and deethylated ketocoumarin are both generated upon visible light exposure, with the former giving rise to rapid photopolymerization and high print speed while the latter ensuring high print resolution by confining the light penetration. By comparison, the printed feature is hard to identify when the ketocoumarin encounters photoreduction due to the increased lateral photopolymerization. The proposed approach here provides a viable solution towards efficient additive manufacturing by controlling the photoreaction of photosensitizers during photopolymerization.

Optofluidic crystallithography for directed growth of single-crystalline halide perovskites

Chen Xue-Guang,Lin Linhan,Huang Guan-Yao,Chen Xiao-Mei,Li Xiao-Ze,Zhou Yun-Ke,Zou Yixuan,Fu Tairan,Li Peng,Li Zhengcao,Sun Hong-Bo

Crystallization is a fundamental phenomenon which describes how the atomic building blocks such as atoms and molecules are arranged into ordered or quasi-ordered structure and form solid-state materials. While numerous studies have focused on the nucleation behavior, the precise and spatiotemporal control of growth kinetics, which dictates the defect density, the micromorphology, as well as the properties of the grown materials, remains elusive so far. Herein, we propose an optical strategy, termed optofluidic crystallithography (OCL), to solve this fundamental problem. Taking halide perovskites as an example, we use a laser beam to manipulate the molecular motion in the native precursor environment and create inhomogeneous spatial distribution of the molecular species. Harnessing the coordinated effect of laser-controlled local supersaturation and interfacial energy, we precisely steer the ionic reaction at the growth interface and directly print arbitrary single crystals of halide perovskites of high surface quality, crystallinity, and uniformity at a high printing speed of 10 2 μm s −1 . The OCL technique can be potentially extended to the fabrication of single-crystal structures beyond halide perovskites, once crystallization can be triggered under the laser-directed local supersaturation.

Rapid vat photopolymerization through a superamphiphobic interface

Hao Wen,Zhen Wang,Mixue Tan,Qingxuan Sui,Shurong Xu,Shoujing Mao,Tianyi Xiao,Quan Yuan,Bo Yuan,Ying Wu,Jun Liu

Vat photopolymerization (VPP) is one of the convenient methods to create high-precision parts; however, due to the significant adhesion between the cured layer of the photopolymer resin and the release film, the currently prevalent VPP equipment is less productive and thus challenging in achieving production on a large scale. To tackle the issues above, a facile method is utilised to produce a transparent film capable of effectively resisting the photopolymer resin. Such film is achieved by incorporating micron-nanometre layered rough features and low surface energy materials onto the surface of quartz glass. It allows innovative applications in speedy VPP processes, achieving a printing speed of up to 323 mm/h in an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) 3D printer while maintaining sound accuracy, exceptional durability and fair applicability, thanks to the features of the prepared film. The presented approach provides new perspectives into the production and application of VPP technology.
