This paper presents a viable coating design for the production of waterborne coatings using PUA, Silicone-modified-PUA, Al-SiO 2 , and PTFE as key ingredients. The coatings are prepared through an air compression spraying technique followed by a photocuring procedure. The resulting PUA/Silicone-modified-PUA/Al-SiO 2 /PTFE coating exhibits exceptional properties including high hardness, low surface tension, and a low coefficient of friction. Experimental findings reveal noteworthy characteristics of the coating. It possesses a gloss level of 4–6°, a hardness of 492.69 N/mm, an elasticity modulus of 11469.94 MPa, a surface roughness of 0.87 μm, a dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.125 μN, and a surface tension of 0.4967 mN/m. To assess its performance, the coating underwent rigorous tests such as the CS-5 Wool Touchpad Shinning Friction test with a 200 g load over 250,000 cycles. It exhibited minimal changes in gloss (≤2°) and color difference (∆E ≤ 0.75). Additionally, the CS-10 abrasive head Optical Surface Taber Abrasion Resistance test was conducted using a 500 g load for 10 cycles, resulting in a Class 1 rating, and after 100 cycles, it achieved a Class 3 rating. This demonstrates its remarkable resistance to tribological environments, enduring tapping, touching, and scraping by fingers over extended periods.

Chitin nanofibers (ChNFs) with different numbers of carboxyls (i.e., with different degree of substitute, DS) were prepared by adjusting the amount of maleic anhydride used in the acylation treatment prior to mechanical nanofibrillation with ultrasound. Transparent coatings were fabricated by using the obtained ChNFs through casting method and modified via vapor deposition by using 1 H , 1 H , 2 H , 2 H -perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane (PFDTS). Hydro-oleophobicity and anti-fingerprint capacity of the ChNF coatings were studied. It was found that the ChNF coatings with more carboxyls possessed stronger hydro-oleophobicity as well as anti-fingerprint capacity after the modification of PFDTS deposition. Analysis of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy suggested that more PFDTS molecules were grafted onto the ChNF coating surface when the ChNFs had more carboxyls (with higher DS). It is the number of carboxyls rather than hydroxyls on ChNF coating surface that determines hydro-oleophobicity and anti-fingerprint capacity of the ChNF coating surface after the modification of the PFDTS deposition. Protective hard coatings are crucial for the screens of electronic devices; however, conventional polymer coatings often face limitations in hardness, self-cleaning ability, and fingerprint resistance. In this study, we developed a novel UV dual-curable ladder-like polysilsesquioxane (LPSQ) coating, modified with boroxyl groups, to improve its protective performance. LPSQ was synthesized via a sol-gel process using controlled ratios of phenyltrimethoxysilane (PTMS), 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH-570), and 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)ethyltrimethoxysilane (ECTMS). The subsequent modification with 4-vinylphenylboronic acid (4-VPBA) introduced a boroxyl network through thermal dehydration. The resulting LPSQ-co-VPBA coating exhibited exceptional mechanical properties, achieving a pencil hardness of up to 8H and excellent adhesion (Grade 0). Notably, the LPSQ153-co-VPBA coating demonstrated extraordinary hardness of 1.83 GPa. Furthermore, the modified coating exhibited enhanced thermal stability, with its decomposition temperature rising from 200 °C to 350 °C, as well as superior UV shielding (41.2 % increase in absorption) and excellent visible light transmittance. Additionally, the coating displayed remarkable self-cleaning and anti-fingerprint properties, with artificial fingerprint liquid sliding off in just 1 s. These findings underscore the potential of boroxyl-modified LPSQ coatings as high-performance protective materials for next-generation electronic device screens. It offer superior hardness, optical clarity, thermal stability, and self-cleaning properties.

The rapid development of touchscreen interfaces and portable electronics has increased the demand for anti-fingerprint and antireflective coatings, which enhance screen visibility and improve the user's visual experience. However, existing oleophilic or oil-repellent coatings often fail to deliver both high transparency and durable anti-fingerprint performance under real-use conditions. In this study, an antireflective coating was fabricated based on chitin nanofibers (ChNFs) to provide both amphiphobic and anti-fingerprint protection for touchscreen displays. The ChNF-based coatings with abundant large-sized nanopores were fabricated via freeze casting and subsequent modification with PFDTES deposition. The PFDTES-modified chitin nanofiber (P-ChNF) coatings combined the anti-fingerprint performance of both water and oleic acid contact angles of 153° and 118°, and increased glass transmittance at 550 nm by ~5 %. The P-ChNF coatings possessed good environmental durability and mechanical robustness, maintaining their anti-fingerprint and antireflective properties under harsh conditions. Notably, the smartphone screen coated with P-ChNF exhibited a substantial reduction in fingerprint residue, confirming improved anti-fingerprint performance. This work not only demonstrates that ChNFs are a promising candidate for meeting the growing demand for protective coatings in touchscreen displays, but also offers a feasible and efficient strategy to do so, thereby promoting the green and sustainable development of the anti-fingerprint coating industry.

Silicone coatings with anti-smudge, anti-fingerprint, abrasion resistance, and ultraviolet (UV) resistance properties are increasingly demanded for touch screens as the development of artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction interfaces. Herein, a transparent, robust, and self-cleaning silicone coating was developed by incorporating cage-like structures and long carbon chains into a 3D cross-linked network via the rational combination of polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS), PSS-Octavinyl substituted (VPOSS), lauryl acrylate (LA), and 1,2-epoxy-4-vinylcyclohexane (EVCH) through hydrosilylation reaction with the presence of Karstedt catalysts. After introducing sealed diphenyliodonium phosphate (I-200), the silicone coating (PVLE-I-200) demonstrated excellent pencil hardness, anti-smudge, and abrasion resistance, and its average transmittance of visible light reached about 92 %. Owing to the low surface energy carbon chains, the coating showed amphiphobic properties and excellent anti-fingerprint property. The binding between cyclohexyl epoxy and glass substrate contributed to the high adhesion of the coating, which remained nearly intact and slightly reduced surface wettability after 500 friction cycles of sandpaper. In addition, the PVLE-I-200 coating demonstrated UV resistance which could withstand 200 h of UV irradiation attributed to the cage-like structure of VPOSS. The functional silicone coating provides insights into the development of environmentally friendly coatings for touch screens with high transparency, abrasion resistance, anti-smudge, and anti-fingerprint properties.
