To develop rapid detection techniques for liquid eggs' adulteration, three types of adulterations were considered: water dilution, manipulation of yolk ratio in whole egg, and blending different varieties of egg white or yolk. Objective: Establish detection techniques utilizing colorimetry , electrochemistry, and interfacial fingerprinting for these adulterations, respectively. Results: Colorimetry allows for detection (1 min·sample -1 ) of water dilution through linear (R 2 ≥ 0.984) and exponential fitting (R 2 ≥ 0.992); Electrochemistry enables detection (6 min·sample -1 , R 2 ≥ 0.979) of the adulteration of yolk ratio in whole egg; Interfacial fingerprinting technique effectively detects (detection duration: 10 min·sample -1 , detection limit: 1.0–10.0 wt%) the adulteration of different varieties of egg white. Subsequently, through 3D-fluorescence microscopy (interface height variation: 22.49–573.45 μm), interfacial tension variation (65.54–35.48 mN·m -1 ), contact angle variation (89.7°–32.9°), particle size range (free water: 0.94–14.29 μm; protein aggregation: 6.57–10.76 μm), and etc., interfacial fingerprinting mechanism was elucidated. This research contributes novel insights into the detection of adulteration in liquid eggs.

Traditional Chinese medicine compound (TCMC) comes from a wide range of sources, and the complexity of chemical composition leads to differences in quality. Improving quality evaluation standards is the focus as well as the difficulty in its development and application. The traditional fingerprint analysis method has certain limitations for the quality evaluation of TCMC and the judgment of superior and inferior products. Therefore, how to optimize the similarity evaluation method of fingerprint and mine the sample data on the basis of fingerprint to fully reflect the essential differences in the quality of TCMC is the focus of this paper. In this paper, the quantified fingerprint method of integral efficiency (IEQFM) combined with dual control of peak area and retention time was proposed to optimize the similarity evaluation method. The HPLC, GC and UV fingerprints of 35 batches of compound liquorice tablets (CLTs) were evaluated as an example. The offline-wavelength switching method was explored to simplify the multi-wavelength data processing method. Secondly, the 11 components in the CLTs were accurately quantitatively analyzed by the single-linear assay multi-markers method and the standard curve method. Orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) analysis was used to find the signature components affecting the quality difference. For UV spectra, quantum fingerprints were obtained by preprocessing using characteristic concatenation method and quantitatively predicted using the partial least squares regression (PLSR) model ( p > 0.7). Finally, the three fingerprint profiles were fused and evaluated after assigning weights to the different evaluation methods using the criteria importance through intercriteria correlation (CRITIC) method. In order to adapt to the evolving TCMC, method optimization is of great significance to improve the quality evaluation criteria. This study provides an exploratory method for the quality analysis of TCMC.

The attenuation or prevention of aflatoxins effect on agricultural products is still an unresolved problem due to the various influencing factors. Fluorescence fingerprint technique (such as excitation-emission matrix, EEM) has been developed for rapid detection of aflatoxins in liquid and solid samples. Unfortunately, the accuracy is seriously affected by background fluorescence compounds, such as kojic acid derivative (KAD). Therefore, development of more sensitive detection methods based on the enhancement of fluorescence signal is highly important. In this study, the EEM fluorescence technique was used to study the effects of α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrins (CDs), and organic solvents on the fluorescence intensity of aflatoxin B 1 (AFB 1 ) and KAD, and molecular modeling study was also performed for the deeper understanding of these host-guest interactions. Results demonstrated that CDs and methanol could induce a higher fluorescence intensity of AFB 1 , while KAD presented a certain inhibitory effect on the enhancement of fluorescence signal of AFB 1 . Among the tested compounds β-CD formed the most stable conformation with AFB 1 (the logarithm of binding constant values are approximately 2.22–2.49) and the clathrate compounds caused the highest fluorescence enhancement of AFB 1 as well (the ratio of fluorescence intensity values ( I / I 0 ) for the presence and absence of CD at 430 nm are about 3.76–7.96). However, no obvious elevation for KAD fluorescence intensity caused by various CDs and organic solvents was observed at 493 nm. A significantly increase of fluorescence intensity was observed at the ratio of I 430 / I 493 by CDs. This suggested that CDs could be used to decrease the interference of KAD, and to improve the accuracy and sensitivity for detection of AFB 1 , especially for the low concentration level.

A novel and improved method for the quality assessment of Cinnamomi Ramulus was developed and completely validated. The method was established using fingerprint technology and simultaneous quantitative determination of six main marker compounds including coumarin, cinnamic alcohol, cinnamic acid, 2-methoxy cinnamic acid, cinnamaldehyde, and 2-methoxy cinnamaldehyde in the herbal medicine for the first time. A newly developed high-performance thin-layer chromatography method, which achieved simultaneous definition of five marker components by comparing the colors and retardation factor values of the bands in high-performance thin-layer chromatography, was first used for the authentication of Cinnamomi Ramulus. The fingerprints of 26 batches of herbal samples from different regions of China showed very similar chromatographic patterns that were evaluated by similarity analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis. In addition, six marker compounds were simultaneously determined using single standard to determine multiple components by the relative response factors. Compared with the external standard method, the new quantitative method was validated to determine multiple compounds in 26 batches of Cinnamomi Ramulus samples. All results demonstrated that the simple and rapid method could be effectively utilized for the quality control of Cinnamomi Ramulus.
