Magnetic resonance (MR) technology has been widely employed in scientific research, clinical diagnosis and geological survey. However, the fabrication of MR radio frequency probeheads still face difficulties in integration, customization and miniaturization. Here, we utilized 3D printing and liquid metal filling techniques to fabricate integrative radio frequency probeheads for MR experiments. The 3D-printed probehead with micrometer precision generally consists of liquid metal coils, customized sample chambers and radio frequency circuit interfaces. We screened different 3D printing materials and optimized the liquid metals by incorporating metal microparticles. The 3D-printed probeheads are capable of performing both routine and nonconventional MR experiments, including in situ electrochemical analysis, in situ reaction monitoring with continues-flow paramagnetic particles and ions separation, and small-sample MR imaging. Due to the flexibility and accuracy of 3D printing techniques, we can accurately obtain complicated coil geometries at the micrometer scale, shortening the fabrication timescale and extending the application scenarios.

Soil water content stands as a pivotal parameter across numerous research disciplines and engineering applications. Electromagnetic (EM) sensors have gained widespread usage in monitoring soil water content. While commonly employed sensors are suitable for typical agronomic- or landscape-soil environments, they may exhibit significant deviations under conditions of high-salinity or -electrical conductivity (EC). We investigated sensing limits under the influence of increasing EC and the resulting accuracy of dielectric permittivity ( ε ) determinations using commercial soil water content sensors. Tests were conducted using eight commercially available EM sensors (CS655, HydraProbe II, TDR-305N, TDR-310N, TDR-315N, TEROS 12, TEROS ONE, and WET150). For these uncoated rod sensors, most were accurate within ±3 % relative permittivity errors in saline solutions within the range of 0‒4 dS m −1 while TDR-305N, TEROS ONE and WET150 maintained an accuracy of 5 % for EC values up to 9.24 dS m −1 . We explored extending the working range of some sensors to high-saline environments by adding an insulating coating on sensor rods. Since the coated probe not only perceives the characteristics of the immersed medium but also interacts with the coating material itself, a calibration model was evaluated for determining the actual ε of the evaluated medium. The strong correlation between a four-point calibration and the model demonstrates the effectiveness of calibrating coated EM sensors for ε determination using only a limited number of calibration materials. The findings presented here could serve as a valuable resource when selecting EM sensors for use in high-saline environments. Results also shed light on the potential to extend the sensing range through the integration of insulating coatings.

Image-guided and robotic bronchoscopy is currently under intense research and development for a broad range of clinical applications, especially for minimally invasive biopsy and surgery of peripheral pulmonary nodules or lesions that are frequently discovered by CT or MRI scans. Optical imaging and spectroscopic modalities at the near-infrared (NIR) window hold great promise for bronchoscopic navigation and guidance because of their high detection sensitivity and molecular/cellular specificity. However, light scattering and background interference are two major factors limiting the depth of tissue penetration of photons, and diseased lesions such as small tumors buried under the tissue surface often cannot be detected. Here we report the use of a miniaturized Raman device that is inserted into one of the bronchoscope channels for sensitive detection of “phantom” tumors using fresh pig lung tissues and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoparticle tags. The ex vivo results demonstrate not only the feasibility of using Raman spectroscopy for endoscopic guidance, but also show that ultrabright SERS nanoparticles allow detection through a bronchial wall of 0.85 mm in thickness and a 5 mm-thick layer of lung tissue (approaching the fourth-generation airway). This work highlights the prospects and potential of Raman-guided bronchoscopy for minimally invasive imaging and detection of lung lesions. Keywords:bronchoscopy;Raman spectroscopy;endoscopic Raman probe;fluorescence;detection depth

The assessment of buried flaws in the interlayer structure of curved metal is crucial to system safety. To improve the flexibility of eddy current sensor, an intrinsically flexible flaw sensing probe made of coil-shaped conductive polymer composite is proposed. The experimental data show that the response signal of the coil-shaped composite changes at the flaw and increases with the increases of flaw height/length, with a maximum sensitivity of 0.435 mV/mm for differential amplitude and 4.904 °/mm for differential phase. The results show that the height of the characteristic signals in the response signals reflects the change in flaw height, and the length of the characteristic signals in the response signals reflects the change in flaw length. The relative change rate of the coil-shaped composite is higher than that of a metal coil of the same structure. The above results have laid a preliminary foundation for using the coil-shaped composite to detect flaws.

s Superhydrophobic coatings have shown great potential in heritage protection due to their excellent wetting resistance, yet whitening problems have limited their widespread use. Here, we present a non-whitening superhydrophobic coating of nano-SiO 2 and perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane for cultural heritage protection, prepared with the assistance of an ultrasound probe. Due to the high efficiency of the probe sonication , the nanoparticles almost retain their original size, and a porous micro–nano hierarchical structure on the surface is formed, as a result, a non-whitening superhydrophobic coating was obtained. The coating exhibits a high water contact angle of 154.7° and a low roll-off angle of 1.7°, dynamic wetting properties such as anti-jet impact, anti-adhesion, anti-evaporation pressure of droplets, rolling, bouncing, anti-fouling and self-cleaning, and long-term resistance to heat, 254 nm UV radiation , acid, alkali, and sand impact. This coating is suitable for bronze, iron, pottery, sandstone, ivory, lacquer, and other artifacts, and has the potential to address various water-related diseases.
