Colloidal Quantum Dots (CQDs) of mercury telluride (HgTe) hold particular appeal for infrared photodetection due to their widely tunable infrared absorption and good compatibility with silicon electronics. While advances in surface chemistry have led to improved CQD solids, the chemical stability of HgTe material is not fully emphasized. In this study, it is aimed to address this issue and identifies a Se-stabilization strategy based on the surface coating of Se on HgTe CQDs via engineering in the precursor reactivity. The presence of Se-coating enables HgTe CQDs with improved colloidal stability, passivation, and enhanced degree of freedom in doping tuning. This enables the construction of optimized p-i-n HgTe CQD infrared photodetectors with an ultra-low dark current 3.26 × 10 −6 A cm⁻ 2 at −0.4 V and room-temperature specific detectivity of 5.17 × 10 11 Jones at wavelength ≈2 um, approximately one order of magnitude improvement compared to that of the control device. The stabilizing effect of Se is well preserved in the thin film state, contributing to much improved device stability. The in-synthesis Se-stabilization strategy highlights the importance of the chemical stability of materials for the construction of semiconductor-grade CQD solids and may have important implications for other high-performance CQD optoelectronic devices.

The conventional doping method of organic semiconductors (commonly including lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide [LiTFSI]) served as hole transport layers in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) suffers from a complex, time-consuming oxidation process, detrimentally impacting device stability. Herein, we propose a novel electrolysis doping strategy to modulate organic semiconductors, enabling controllable doping and effective Li⁺ removal. This electrolysis doping exploits holes with tunable oxidizing capabilities to oxidize organic semiconductors into ion radicals at the surface of the anode electrode, which exhibits a high reproducibility and a universal application on different organic semiconductors. Simultaneously, Li⁺ ions can be reduced to Li atoms at the surface of the cathode electrode, thus removing stability-damaging residual Li + . Accordingly, the regular PSCs using electrolyzed 2,2',7,7'-Tetrakis[N,N-di(4-methoxyphenyl)amino]-9,9'-spirobifluorene (Spiro) achieve a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 26.16%, and the inverted-structured PSCs using electrolyzed poly[bis(4-phenyl) (2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine (PTAA) achieve a PCE of 25.57% with satisfying stability by maintaining 91% of initial efficiency after operating for 1,400 h under continuous one-sun illumination.

In the pursuit of Moore's Law, the transition to integrated circuits (ICs) and atomic-scale device fabrication places pressure on chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) to deliver flawless surfaces. Moving beyond conventional abrasives, ultra-small and monodisperse ceria nanoparticles have arisen as a critical materials platform. Tailoring their size, composition, and surface properties is important to simultaneously achieving high polishing selectivity and sub-angstrom smoothness. However, CeO 2 abrasives with ultra-small particle sizes are plagued by challenges in production, colloidal instability leading to agglomeration, and relatively low polishing rates. Herein, we report a universal doping-mediated activity adjusting platform and successfully develop ultrasmall CeO 2 mesoporous nanoabrasive. USM-Ce, with sizes under 30 nm, exhibits uniform morphology and excellent dispersibility. Theoretical calculations combined with various characterization reveal that the constructed doping regulation platform effectively reduces the formation energy of oxygen vacancies in USM-Ce, thereby markedly increasing the concentration of both oxygen vacancies and Ce 3+ ions. Notably, USM-Ce can further enhance the material removal rate to 232% of the original through doping regulation. Meanwhile, the proposed ultrasmall abrasives deliver an atomically planarized, nearly scratch-free surface with an angstrom-level finish. The newly developed mesoporous CeO 2 nanoparticles offer a versatile platform for ultrasmall ceria-based nanoabrasives in critical advanced IC manufacturing processes.
