Aqueous solution induced method is regarded as a promising route to realize high-performance metal oxide thin film transistors at low temperature with an economical and environment friendly process. In this paper, we report the synthesis of multi-component AlO
x
:Y dielectrics
with a small amount of yttrium homogeneously distributed in AlO
x
matrix through an alternate spin-coating process. The AlO
x
:Y films demonstrate superior characteristics, such as improved surface morphology, better capacitance coupling effect, smaller dielectric
dispersion, and similar leakage current density compared to AlO
x
films of nearly twofold thickness. By elevating the pre-baking temperature, the dielectric performance of AlO
x
:Y films has been further optimized, exhibiting a near-atomically smooth surface,
a low current density of 8.2×10−8 A cm−2 at 2 MV/cm, and a dielectric constant of 7.4. And the corresponding thin-film transistor with amorphous InGaZnO channel shows a narrow working voltage range (<2.5 V), a field-effect mobility around 10
cm2 V−1 s−1, and an on/off current ratio exceeding 107 coupled with the gate current lower than 1 nA in the entire operation range.

Using melamine-formaldehyde polymer microspheres as templates, yttrium-doped TiO2 hollow spheres (Y-TiO2HS) were successfully prepared via a sol-gel method. The as-syntheszied samples were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectrum, luminescence spectrum, specific surface area (BET) analysis and porosity analysis. The results indicate that Y doping could increase the thermal stability, reduce the band gap and enhance photocatalytic activity of the TiO2. When the Y doping molar ratio was 1.5%, the Y-TiO2HS presented high surface area (62.651 m2 g−1) and photocatalytic degradation rate (about 70%). The corresponding BET value and the degradation rate of Y-TiO2HS increased by 3 times and 50%, respectively, compared with those of un-doped TiO2HS.

Transparent laser ceramics are the attractive gain medium for solid-state lasers. However, they have not been applied to the fiber lasers due to the difficulty of forming green fibers by traditional methods. In this study, a novel route combined aqueous gelcasting with capillary glass tube was designed to prepare Yb:YAG transparent ceramic fiber with a diameter of 1.0 mm and 43.0 mm in length for the first time. The slurry with high solid loading and low viscosity was smartly inhaled into the capillary glass tube to conquer the difficulty of casting. The green fibers without cracks and deformation had highly dense microstructure. The in-line transmittance of highly doped 15.0 at.% Yb:YAG transparent ceramic disc prepared from the same preparation conditions of Yb:YAG ceramic fiber was 80.0 % at 1064 nm. This study provides a novel route to prepare transparent ceramic fiber differing from extrusion processing, promoting the development of fiber laser.
