A no-crosstalk multi-functional tactile sensor for precise physiological monitoring

Haifeng Ji,Peihuan Lv,Liming Zhang,Lanyue Shen,Zhenqiu Gao,Zhen Wen,Xuhui Sun

Tactile sensors with multifunctional sensing characteristics enhance people’s perception of external stimuli and have become an indispensable part of human–computer interaction. However, constructing a multi-functional tactile sensor that is able to respond to multiple stimuli without signal crosstalk still remains challenging. Here, we proposed a temperature–pressure integrated multi-functional tactile sensor (TP-MTS) by coupling thermoresistive and contact-electrification effects, which can simultaneously detect human body temperature and physiological motion. A sensing electrode model was validated by using a PVDF/PEG/Gr (polyvinylidene difluoride/Polyethylene terephthalate/graphene) composite thermoresistive film instead of the traditional metal as the electrode of the pressure sensing unit. The multi-functional tactile sensor converts temperature and pressure stimuli into two independent output signals from different paths, realizing simultaneous detection of temperature and pressure without signal crosstalk. The TP-MTS can achieve real-time temperature monitoring with a minimum resolution of 0.1℃ and a sensitivity of 1.51 % ℃ -1 and it could also detect pressure in a wide pressure range (0.25 kPa ∼ 253.87 kPa) with the sensitivity of 3.73 kPa −1 . Through the structure design and the huge impedance difference between the thermosensitive film and the triboelectric unit, the real-time monitoring of temperature and pulse is realized simultaneously in a single device without crosstalk.

Crosstalk-free dual-mode biosensing in a single MOF for α-glucosidase activity monitoring and inhibitor screening

Xiang-Yi He,Qian-Wen Shen,Chao-Jie Zhu,Shuo Hao,Kai-Yu Tan,Qing Li

This study presents a novel crosstalk-free dual-mode biosensing platform based on a single cerium-incorporated metal-organic framework (UiO-66-NH 2 (Ce)) for sensitive detection of α-glucosidase activity and inhibitor screening. Unlike traditional dual-mode systems affected by signal interference, this monolithic MOF platform intrinsically produces orthogonal colorimetric and fluorescent responses. Upon α-glucosidase-mediated generation of hydroquinone, simultaneous signal transduction occurs through independent pathways: colorimetric attenuation via suppression of the oxidase-like catalytic process, and fluorescence recovery due to ligand-to-metal charge transfer modulation. Rigorously optimized for clinical application, the platform achieves ultra-low detection limits of 0.0166 U/L in colorimetric mode and 0.0094 U/L in fluorescent mode, surpassing existing methods. The platform demonstrates selectivity against potential interferents and successfully quantifies α-glucosidase in human serum with satisfactory recovery rates. Furthermore, the system facilitates precise inhibitor screening with IC 50 values of 8.13 μM for fluorescence-based detection and 10.06 μM for colorimetric detection of acarbose. By integrating self-validating detection and drug evaluation within a single-material architecture, this work establishes a paradigm for designing robust MOF-based biosensors equipped with built-in cross-validation capabilities.

Dynamic keystroke-password recognition based on piezoelectric-triboelectric coupling sensor array with crosstalk-free for authentication system

Wenqiu Liu,Meng Chen,Xiping Jiang,Wei Chen,Seng Zen,Ziyi Ren,Hengyu Guo,Hua Yu

As artificial intelligence technologies progress, Human-Machine Interactions (HMI) must evolve rapidly, necessitating reliable and continuous authentication solutions. We propose dynamic keystroke pattern recognition technology based on a piezoelectric-triboelectric coupling sensor array to address these challenges, enhancing the keystroke signal characteristics. Dual verification technology combining password and biometric authentication effectively enhances the security level of the Human-Machine Interactions system. The triboelectric sensor efficiently reduces the output channels of a 3 × 3 sensing array to a single channel using a mesh topology electrode design. Each of the nine triboelectric sensor units corresponds to nine numeric key, allowing users to input different key combinations that generate unique cryptographic waveforms distinguished by individual keystroke characteristics. A piezoelectric-triboelectric coupling sensor array, structured with multiple layers, is devised. By incorporating a piezoelectric sensor in the upper layer, we harness the complementary effects of piezoelectric and triboelectric properties to boost authentication accuracy and alleviate the limitations of single sensing modalities. Notably, crosstalk is eliminated through the specialized sensor array and the topological electrode design. Integrating the piezoelectric-triboelectric coupling sensor array with a 1D CNN neural network approach achieves password recognition accuracy surpassing 99%, effectively mitigating the risk of password leakage in systems facilitating human-computer interactions.

Crosstalk-Free, Stretching-Insensitive Sensor Based on Arch-Bridge Architecture for Tactile Mapping with Parallel Addressing Strategy toward Million-Scale-Pixels Processing

Ruomei Shao,Chunnan Wang,Jingru Zhao,Hang Yang,Shuqing Sun

In the field of biomimetic electronics, flexible sensors with both high resolution and large size are attracting a lot of attention. However, attempts to increase the number of sensor pixels have been thwarted by the need for complex inner circuits and the resulting interferences with the output. Technological challenges, such as real-time spatiotemporal mapping and long-time reliability, must be resolved for large-scale sensor matrices. This paper reports a simple and robust sensor with an arch-bridge architecture (ABA) to address these challenges. The device, which consists of an anti-icing all-transparent material system, is fabricated by immobilizing ABA ionic arrays on predefined grooves on the substrate. It systematically integrates ABA structure-designing, resistance-position-sensing, and parallel-addressing logic, allowing for an improvement of three orders of magnitude in the scanning speed (million-scale pixels) without logical “diagnose confusion.” In addition, it can withstand 100 000 stretching cycles without functional failure. It is also resistant to interferences from stretching. humidity, wet surfaces, and power lines. The proposed strategy is envisaged to serve as a general solution for high-density, large-area tactile sensors in various applications.
