It is essential to search highly active, steady and cheap non-noble electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). At present, nickel phosphides are extensively used in electrochemical hydrogen evolution due to its excellent stability and activity. Hence, we report a facile, effective and feasible strategy to synthesis of Ni 5 P 4 nanosheets/nanoparticles structure on carbon cloth, which was fabricated by electroless nickel plating on carbon cloth followed via straightforward thermal phosphidation treatment with NaH 2 PO 2 as phosphorus source. The as-prepared CC@Ni–P electrocatalyst exhibits HER activity with low overpotentials (93 mV vs. RHE) to attain current density 10 mA/cm 2 as well as small Tafel slope (58.2 mV/dec), which outperforms most nickel phosphides electrocatalysts. The excellent HER performance can be ascribed to the large electrochemically active surface area, and phosphorus-rich Ni 5 P 4 phase can supply further bridges sites of Ni and P. Significantly, as-prepared CC@Ni–P catalyst electrode exhibits no apparent HER activity decay after continuous stability test. Beyond that, the approach can be readily used to fabricate large size (5 × 5 cm) nickel phosphide electrocatalyst with excellent HER performance, which may be conducive to the proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolyser applications in future. This work opens an effective way to construct excellent performance transition-metal phosphides for HER.

Silver-printed terylene is presented to fabricate anti-electromagnetic radiation Maternity Dress (AMD) with superior shielding effectiveness, but the use of noble metal as electromagnetic interference shielding materials enhances cost of raw material and restricts its application. In this study, a facile process combined with electroless deposition and hydrophobic treatment to fabricate self-cleaning radiation protection cotton for AMD was established. The active groups on the plant fiber surface could absorb Sn 2+ and Pd 2+ through coordination effect, acting as catalytic center, which can catalyze the reduction of Ni 2+ in the plating solution. Ni particle deposited on the its surface with deposited amount of 32 %. The fabricated material exhibited an shielding effectiveness of 52.5 dB and it meet AMD criteria. Owing to the cooperation of the low surface energy and rough structure of precipitation, the Ni-plated cotton modified with (3-Mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane exhibited remarkable hydrophobicity with water contact angle up to 112.8° and excellent self-cleaning property.
Multi-ion fabrics (especially silver ion fabrics) have special advantages as electromagnetic radiation, but the use of noble metals enhances its cost. Electroless nickel plating (EP-Ni) has great potential application in fabricating low-cost metallized material. Here, EP-Ni on pure cotton surface to fabricate radiation protection suits for pregnant woman was established to replace traditional protection suits with silver film. The active groups on the cotton/polyester blend fiber surface could absorb tin and palladium ions, acting as catalytic centers, which can catalyze the reduction of Ni2+ in the plating solution. Ni particle with (111) crystal plane preferential oriented crystal structure deposited on cotton surface with a coarse microstructure. The Ni deposited amount is about 19%. The fabricated material exhibited a shielding effectiveness of 29.5 dB. Studies also shown that bending has no negative effect on crystallinity and electrical property. But more bending times could lead to crack, which would decline electromagnetic shielding performance by 24%.
Solar-driven interfacial evaporation technology has attracted significant attention because of its ability to concentrate thermal energy on the evaporation surface to minimize the heat loss. As a key component in the process of interfacial evaporation, the structure of the photothermal conversion membrane is one of the important factors influencing interfacial evaporation performance. Herein, a hierarchical nickel black membrane (H-Ni) was prepared by electroless plating for solar-driven interfacial evaporation. A layer of triangular nickel black particles was grown on the surface of the Ni foam skeleton, which enhances the absorption (93.87 %) through the light-trapping effect. The evaporation rate of H-Ni membrane achieved to 1.27 kg m −2 h −1 with a solar-vapor conversion efficiency of 80.22 % under 1 kW m −2 solar irradiation. This work provides a novel design of a hierarchical structure via a convenient way, which is conductive to promoting the widespread application of solar water treatment technology.
