Triple-modal secure films with non-contact color modulation for spatiotemporal encryption pixels

Yiyao Liu,Yuqing Li,Mingzhe Chen,Fei Pang,Lili Yang,Dengteng Ge

Dynamic optical materials show significant potential for advanced information encryption and anti-counterfeiting, yet multimodal non-contact decryption systems remain challenging. Herein, a feasible strategy is proposed for spatiotemporal encryption through non-contact modulation of structural color (SC), photochromic color (PC), and fluorescent color (FC). This secure film is achieved via compartmentalized microdroplet encapsulation and curing (CMEC) technique based on crosslinked polydimethylsiloxane. The microdroplet integrates three components: (i) superparamagnetic Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 nanoparticles (SPIONs) for magnetically responsive SC modulation, (ii) methyl-functionalized spiropyran (MSP) for reversible PC switching and (iii) nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs) that enable time-evolving FC transitions via fluorescence resonance energy transfer with MSP. Initial static information concealment is achieved via optimization of SPIONs parameters. Spatial encryption synergizes SC (red to purple) with PC (red), while temporal security stems from adjustable FC (from blue through pink to red). The CMEC strategy allows facile preparation of multimodal films with versatile compositions. We arrange pixel arrays in single, dual, and triple modes. This yields a Morse-code-based spatiotemporal encryption system that affords over 7.9 × 10 28 rewritable programming possibilities. This methodology establishes a generalizable platform for multimodal high-security encryption systems toward practical applications.

Dual-Amide Engineered Blue Phase Liquid Crystal Elastomers: Synergistic Fatigue Resistance, Programmable Mechanochromics and Spatiotemporally Encrypted Photonics

Meng Wang,Xiaosong Li,Yijie Gai,Yuxia Luo,Huai Yang

Blue phase liquid crystal elastomers (BPLCEs) hold significant promise for flexible photonic devices due to their 3D periodic photonic lattices and intrinsic soft-matter characteristics. However, achieving an optimal balance between mechanical resilience and dynamic responsiveness remains a critical challenge. This study introduces a dynamic hydrogen-bonding network design strategy, wherein N,N'-bisacryloylcystamine monomers are incorporated to construct a hierarchical energy dissipation system, yielding BPLCEs with remarkable toughness (1.72 MJ m − 3 ) and ultralow hysteresis (4.8%). By integrating thermally induced topological bond rearrangement, programmable mechanical gradient films are developed to enable high-precision strain-induced patterning and an adaptive encryption mechanism governed by a “relaxation-concealment/stretching-development” paradigm. Furthermore, leveraging the spatiotemporal gating properties of embedded phosphorescent materials, a dual-mode dynamic verification system is established, facilitating multidimensional information decryption via ultraviolet-triggered rapid visualization and controlled afterglow decay lasting up to 5 s. This study not only mitigates the inherent trade-off between mechanical durability and stimulus responsiveness in soft photonic crystals but also establishes a novel framework for multidimensional synergistic regulation across mechanical, optical, and temporal domains. These findings provide a transformative strategy for advancing next-generation dynamic encryption systems, intelligent sensing technologies, and adaptive photonic displays, paving the way for innovative applications in flexible photonic devices.

Electrochromic Artificial Synapses for Spatiotemporal Dual-Encryption Display

Lingqi Wu,Huajing Fang,Kai Jing,Liyan Zhang,Haolin Yu,Yang Chai

Global data traffic growth poses unprecedented challenges to information security. This necessitates robust next-generation solutions, particularly multidimensional protection frameworks that integrate spatial, temporal, and multispectral modulation capabilities. To address this, inspired by structure-function coupling mechanisms in biological neurons and synapses, this study develops a novel biomimetic artificial synaptic device based on electrochromic materials. The device integrates PEDOT:PSS (enabling millisecond-level response) and WO 3 ·H 2 O (providing stable memory) with an optimized Mg 2+ gel electrolyte. Key performance metrics include 82.9% optical modulation at 700 nm, precisely controlled multi-state transitions, and real-time synaptic visualization. It mimics biological learning/forgetting via paired-pulse facilitation (PPF: 152–168%) and physiological timescale dynamics (τ 1 = 2.91 s, τ 2 = 6.97 s). Notably, these neuromorphic properties are translated into an innovative spatiotemporal dual-encryption logic: spatially, pixelated color-depth modulation generates geometric Morse code patterns (dot/dash = light blue/deep blue pixels); temporally, programmable optical attenuation below the 5% visual perception threshold produces time-locked, self-erasing encryption keys. This approach constructs a synergistic space/time/pulse-field encryption system, fundamentally breakthrough traditional encryption frameworks. It provides an innovative physical-layer information protection solution and expands electrochromic materials’ technological boundaries in dynamic information concealment and visual security.

Spatiotemporal Self-Encrypted Interlock-Cascade-Hashing Optical Storage Based on Multicolor Photochromic Lithographic Array

Zan Xu,Mingze Liu,Xue Bai,Rongbao Feng,Zeyulong Wen,Yingzhu Zi,Xinhao Cai,Yueteng Zhang,Chenchen Yang,Asif Ali Haider,Haidong Niu,Yue Liu,Yangke Cun,Anjun Huang,Zhiguo Song,Jianbei Qiu,Jiayan Liao,Ting Xu,Ji Zhou,Zhengwen Yang

Continuing deve7lopments in artificial intelligence and quantum computing challenge the information security of physical assets and intellectual property. Photochromic materials have emerged as promising candidates for optical encryption and storage applications due to their intrinsic reversible, real-time light absorption modulation capability. Although all-inorganic devices exhibit pronounced stability and fatigue resistance, single-component multicolor photochromic systems remain exceedingly rare. Here, a multicolor photochromic phenomenon is reported in PbMoO 4 microcrystal, demonstrating both volatility and non-volatility through distinct photochromic channels. The input, output, and control signals of this material are all different wavelengths of light, which operate in an all-optical and non-destructive manner. Moreover, the all-solid-state nature of PbMoO 4 ensures its stable modulation capability after multiple photoresponse cycles with upconversion luminescence modulation up to 99%. By combining experimental characterizations with ab-initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations, the mechanisms of each photochromic channel are revealed. Employing lithography and mask patterning, on-chip arrays are fabricated to demonstrate the feasibility of spatiotemporal self-encrypted optical information storage and interlock-cascade-hashing encryption. This work holds significant promise for advancing anti-cloning and anti-cracking technologies for high-value devices, assets, and information.
