Ensuring the material durability of an electrolyte is a prerequisite for the long-term service of all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs). Herein, to investigate the mechanical integrity of a solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) in an ASSB upon electrochemical operation, we have implemented a sequence of quasi-static uniaxial tension and stress relaxation tests on a lithium perchlorate-doped poly (vinyl alcohol) electrolyte, and then discussed the viscoelastic behavior as well as the strength of SPE film during the physical aging process. On this basis, a continuum electrochemical-mechanical model is established to evaluate the stress evolution and mechanical detriment of aging electrolytes in an ASSB at a discharge state. It is found that the measured elastic modulus, yield stress, and characteristic relaxation time boost with the prolonged aging time. Meanwhile, the shape factor for the classical time-decay equation and the tensile rupture strength are independent of the aging history. Accordingly, the momentary relaxation modulus can be predicted in terms of the time–aging time superposition principle. Furthermore, the peak tensile stress in SPE film for the full discharged ASSB will significantly increase as the aging proceeds due to the stiffening of the electrolyte composite. It may result in the structure failure of the cell system. However, this negative effect can be suppressed by the suggested method, which is given by a 2D map under different lithiation rates and relative thicknesses of the electrolyte. These findings can advance the knowledge of SPE degradation and provide insights into reliable all-solid-state electrochemical device applications. Keywords:solid polymer electrolyte;physical aging;viscoelastic;mechanical integrity;all-solid-state battery

Adhesive tapes with high adhesion strength are critical in applications from structural bonding, biomedical devices, to flexible electronics. However, their performance is fundamentally limited by creep—time-dependent deformation under sustained stress—which leads to irreversible failure in long-term applications. While transient non-covalent interactions are widely engineered to enhance short-term energy dissipation, they inherently compromise creep resistance due to their dynamic reversibility. Herein, this persistent challenge is addressed by designing anti-creep adhesive tapes through precise topological regulation of polymer networks. By systematically comparing linear, covalent-crosslink, and trapped-entanglement-dominated architectures, the entanglement-stabilized networks are demonstrated to achieve a three-orders-of-magnitude reduction in creep rate while maintaining strong interfacial adhesion. The unique combination of long-chain entanglements and spare crosslinks enables efficient elastic energy storage without sacrificing tackiness, resolving the trade-off between dynamic dissipation and permanent mechanical integrity. This work provides both a mechanistic framework for understanding creep in adhesive materials and a scalable strategy for developing durable, high-performance polymer adhesives.

To obtain high-performance tissue-adhesive hydrogel embodying excellent mechanical integrity, a supramolecular hydrogel patch is fabricated through in situ copolymerization of a liquid-liquid phase separation precursor composed of self-complementary 2-2-ureido-4-pyrimidone-based monomer and acrylic acid coupled with subsequent corporation of bioactive epigallocatechin gallate. Remarkably, the prepared supramolecular hydrogel leverages hierarchical multi-strength hydrogen-bonds hinged strategy assisted by alkyl-based hydrophobic pockets, broadening the distribution of binding strength of physical junctions, striking a canonical balance between superb mechanical performance and robust adhesive capacity. Ultimately, the fabricated supramolecular hydrogel patch stands out as a high stretchability (1500 %), an excellent tensile strength (2.6 MPa), a superhigh toughness (12.6 MJ m −3 ), an instant and robust tissue adhesion strength (263.2 kPa for porcine skin), the considerable endurance under cyclic loading and reversible adhesion, a superior burst pressure tolerance (108 kPa) to those of commercially-available tissue sealants, and outstanding anti-swelling behavior. The resultant supramolecular hydrogel patch demonstrates the rapid hemorrhage control within 60 s in liver injury and efficient wound closure and healing effects with alleviated inflammation and reduced scarring in full-thickness skin incision, confirming its medical translation as a promising self-rescue tissue-adhesive patch for hemorrhage prevention and sutureless wound closure.

An amyloid fiber-ferulic acid/chitosan-ferulic acid (AF-FA/CS-FA) double network hydrogel (DN) was synthesized in two steps after prefabricating micronetworks. Ferulic acid (FA) and laccase were used to form protein and polysaccharide micronetworks, respectively. Then, AF-FA and CS-FA were induced to form covalent cross-links using genipin (GP). The phase penetration behavior of the two biopolymers in different proportions could form a homogeneous microstructure. The higher structural complexity and mechanical integrity brought by this structure may be the main reason that it improved the controlled release ability of the gels. The results from a loading capacity experiment and infrared spectra showed that the DN had acquired the AF-FA network to provide a higher load rate (9.50%), possibly because adding the polysaccharide network had increased the proportion of β-sheet structures beneficial to loading FA. The DN hydrogel containing 0.7 wt% CS-FA (DN70) showed the most tightly ordered combination of protein and polysaccharide, which had the highest storage modulus (2552.82 Pa) and the lowest solubility (91.00%). The thermal and photodegradation constants of DN70 were reduced by 75.00% and 58.29%, respectively, compared to the FA monomer . The formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) was reduced by 44.75% in the cake with the addition of 0.5% (w/w) DN70. These results suggest that the AF-FA/CS-FA DN can improve the range of FA applications in food products and provide an attractive strategy for polyphenols as AGEs inhibitors in baked goods.

High-performance pervaporation membranes play a crucial role in the separation of biobutanol. Graphene oxide (GO) shows remarkable potential in membrane separation applications due to its tunable interlayer channel, good hydrophilicity and excellent surface modifiability. However, the narrow d-spacing between GO layers and the weak interlayer interaction forces impose limitations on its application in alcohol permselective pervaporation. Herein, porous graphene oxide (PGO) was prepared via etching of the surface functional groups. Subsequently, 4-dodecylaniline was covalently grafted with PGO nanosheets to fabricate C12H-PGO/PEBA mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) featuring in-plane and interlayer dual transport channels. The introduction of long alkyl chains not only enlarges the d-spacing of PGO and augments its hydrophobicity but also bolsters the mechanical integrity of the framework. At 40°C, the 1 wt% C12H-PGO/PEBA membrane exhibited a 25.4% increase in separation factor and a 106.9% improvement in permeation flux compared to the pristine PEBA membrane. In addition, the adsorption and diffusion behaviors of GO/PEBA, PGO/PEBA, and C12H-PGO/PEBA were investigated using Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) and Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations. The results reveal that C12H-PGO incorporation enhances affinity toward butanol molecules while suppresses water diffusion, accounting for the improved separation performance. This microstructural modification strategy of GO paves the way for the development of novel butanol pervaporation membrane.

In the quest for miniaturization across technical disciplines, microscale ceramic blocks emerge as pivotal components, with performance critically dependent on precise scales and intricate shapes. Sharp-edged ceramic microparticles, applied from micromachining to microelectronics, require innovative fabrication techniques for high-throughput production while maintaining structural complexity and mechanical integrity. This study introduces a “one-pot microfluidic fabrication” system incorporating two device fabrication strategies, “groove & tongue” and sliding assembling, achieving an unprecedented array of microparticles with diverse, complex shapes and refined precision, outperforming traditional methods in production rate and quality. Optimally designed sintering profiles based on derivative thermogravimetry enhance microparticles’ shape retention and structural strength. Compression and scratch tests validate the superiority of microparticles, suggesting their practicability for diverse applications, such as precise micromachining, sophisticated microrobotics and delicate microsurgical tools. This advancement marks a shift in microscale manufacturing, offering a scalable solution to meet the demanding specifications of miniaturized technology components.

The chromium-free oxide precursor strategy effectively avoids chromium volatilization and electrode contamination in metal-supported solid oxide fuel cells (MS-SOFCs), while enabling high-temperature co-sintering in air to simplify the fabrication process. However, the drastic microstructural coarsening, dimensional shrinkage, and thermal expansion mismatch with adjacent components of such substrates during high-temperature sintering, reduction, and thermal cycling collectively contribute to the interfacial instability and structural degradation of MS-SOFCs. Herein, we address these issues by incorporating a small amount of Gd0.1Ce0.9O1.95(GDC) to the NiO-Fe2O3(NFO) substrate. The incorporation of GDC significantly enhances the sintering compatibility and reduction stability of the MS-SOFCs, alleviating the stress-induced warping and distortion. Moreover, the GDC phase has a pinning effect to suppressing the coarsening of the substrates during high-temperature sintering and reduction processes, enhancing mechanical integrity and structural robustness of the single cell. With 15 wt% GDC incorporated into the NiFe substrate, the corresponding MS-SOFC with GDC electrolyte film achieves a peak power density of 0.56 W cm−2at 600 °C, along with markedly improved structural integrity and operational reliability. This work demonstrates a viable pathway for designing heterophase-engineered supports with matched thermomechanical properties, offering promising prospects for enhancing the durability of MS-SOFCs.
