The electrocatalytic hydrodeoxygenation (ECH) of lignin typical model compounds and lignin-derived oil from different tree species into (alkyl)-cyclohexane and (alkyl)-cyclohexanol in the fluidized electrocatalysis system were investigated in this research. The selected model compounds include two G-type compounds: eugenol (EO) and guaiacol (GO), and two S-type compounds: 4-allyl-2,6-dimethoxyphenol (4-DMP) and 2,6-dimethoxyphenol (2,6-DMP). This ECH system consisted of phosphotungstic acid (PW 12 ) electrolyte, catalyst that suspended in the electrolyte, and NaBH 4 reductant in the cathode. The results showed that 4-DMP could be converted using Pt/C as the catalyst at 25 mA/cm 2 current density and 80°C for 60 min, with higher faradaic efficiency of 90% and the selectivity of PCH and 4-PCH was 62% and 20%, respectively. For C O bond cleavage, the DFT calculations showed that, for EO, GO, and 4-DMP, the C-OCH 3 bond will be firstly broken, while for 2,6-DMP, it is preferred that C-OH bond will be firstly broken. It was found that G-type (EO, GO) was more easily hydrodeoxygenated than S-type (4-DMP, 2,6-DMP) compounds, with the reaction rate in the order of GO > EO > 2,6-DMP > 4-DMP, indicating that the allyl group had a negative effect on the electrocatalytic conversion. Furthermore, it was also found that the complete conversion of lignin-derived oil monomers of pine (mainly G-type) and poplar (mainly S-type) can be achieved, with the yield of target products (PCH and 4-PCH) of 64% and 43%, respectively. Overall, this work innovatively integrates biomass refining and electrocatalytic upgrading, which provides a green and environmentally friendly solution for lignin conversion and utilization.

In this study, ultrasonic circulating extraction (UCE) technique was firstly and successfully applied for extraction of samara oil from Acer saccharum . The extraction kinetics were fitted and described, and the extraction mechanism was discussed. Through comparison, n -hexane was selected as the extraction solvent, the influence of solvent type on the responses was detailedly interpreted based on the influence of their properties on the occurrence and intensity of cavitation. Seven parameters potentially influencing the extraction yield of samara oil and content of nervonic acid, including ultrasound irradiation time, ultrasound irradiation power, ultrasound temperature, liquid-solid ratio, soaking time, particle size and stirring rate, were screened through Plackett–Burman design to determine the significant variables. Then, three parameters performed statistically significant, including liquid-solid ratio, ultrasound irradiation time and ultrasound irradiation power, were further optimized using Box–Behnken design to predict optimum extraction conditions. Satisfactory yield of samara oil (11.72 ± 0.38%) and content of nervonic acid (5.28 ± 0.18%) were achieved using the optimal conditions. 1% proportion of ethanol in extraction solvent, 120 °C of drying temperature and 6.4% moisture were selected and applied for effective extraction. There were no distinct differences in the physicochemical properties of samara oil obtained by UCE and Soxhlet extraction, and the samara oil obtained by UCE exhibited better antioxidant activities. Therefore, UCE method has enormous potential for efficient extraction of edible oil with high quality from plant materials.

The excessive application of nitrogen in tea plantations leads to severe soil acidification and N2O emission boosting. To promote sustainable agriculture, nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged as alternative fertilizers, but their effects on soil nitrification and greenhouse gas emissions in tea plantations remain unclear. In this study, the effects of NP type (ZnO-NPs and Fe2O3-NPs) and dose (0, 1, 10, and 100 mg·kg−1) on soil N2O emissions were investigated via a lab incubation trial. Soil pH, ammonium, and nitrate changes were also monitored during the incubation period. The abundance of functional genes related to nitrification and denitrification processes was analyzed as well. The results showed that ZnO-NPs led to a decrease in N2O emissions. The reduction effect was stronger with increasing dose and resulted in a 33% reduction at an addition rate of 100 mg·kg−1. The cumulative N2O emissions had significantly positive correlations with NH4+-N and NO3−-N. ZnO-NP addition showed a significantly negative effect on Ammonia-Oxidizing Archaea (AOA) but a positive effect on Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacteria (AOB) gene abundance. In contrast, Fe2O3-NPs showed an insignificant impact on N2O emissions and soil N content, as well as nitrification–denitrification gene abundance, regardless of different doses. These results imply that the application of ZnO-NPs may inhibit nitrification through the retarding of AOA activity. This study provided us with a potential practice to reduce N2O emissions in tea plantations by applying ZnO-NPs, but the efficiency of this reduction needs further examination under ambient conditions before field application.

The practical application of hierarchical porous carbon materials in supercapacitors (SCs) promoted the development of a simple and sustainable preparation method. Plane tree seed-based porous carbon (PBC) was synthesized using static air activation with plane tree seeds as precursors and their hierarchical porous structure was regulated by controlling the reaction temperature. The physicochemical properties of the produced PBCs were characterized through scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, N 2 adsorption–desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The optimized hierarchical porous carbon materials obtained at an activation temperature of 700 °C possessed a high specific surface area, an optimal hierarchical porous structure dominated by mesoporous structures, and functional groups containing N and O for doping. The formation and evolution of hierarchically porous structures during static air activation were described in detail. In a three–electrode system, the optimal PBC exhibited the highest specific capacitance of 187.05 F g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 . Moreover, the constructed symmetric SC achieved a high energy density of 11.03 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 250 W kg −1 and exhibited remarkable electrochemical stability (100% over 7000 cycles at 10 A g –1 ). It can be predicted that static air activation might be a simple and sustainable method widely used for preparing carbon materials with high energy storage and conversion efficiency. Graphical

Biodiesel is a clean and renewable fuel, which is considered as the best alternative to diesel fuel, but the feedstock contributes more than 70% of the cost. The most important constituent essential for biodiesel development is to explore cheap feedstock with high oil content. In this work, we found novel non-edible plant seeds ofKoelreuteria paniculata(KP) with high oil contents of 28–30 wt.% and low free fatty acid contents (0.91%), which can serve as a promising feedstock for biodiesel production. KP seed oil can convert into biodiesel/fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) by base-catalyzed transesterification with the highest biodiesel production of 95.2% after an optimization process. We obtained the optimal transesterification conditions, i.e., oil/methanol ratio (6:1), catalyst concentration (0.32), reaction temperature (65 °C), stirring rate (700 rpm), and reaction time (80 min). The physico-chemical properties and composition of the FAME were investigated and compared with mineral diesel. The synthesized esters were confirmed and characterized by the application of NMR (1H and13C), FTIR, and GC-MS. The biofuel produced from KP seed oil satisfies the conditions verbalized by ASTM D6751 and EN14214 standards. Accordingly, KP source oil can be presented as a novel raw material for biofuel fabrication. Keywords:Koelreuteria paniculatabiodiesel;non-edible feedstock;transesterification;physicochemical characterization;optimization

Rapid, green and efficient extraction of active compounds followed by fast analysis is always pursued in the field of food analysis and/or industry. Herein, a green and highly efficient extraction of four active flavonoids from the seeds of Oroxylum indicum using a combination of natural deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and tissue-smashing extraction (TSE) technique was applied and a UPLC method was developed for their sensitive and selective quantification. RSM coupled with BBD procedure was used to optimize the extraction conditions based on single factors, such as liquid-solid ratios, extraction speed and extraction time. Compared with other conventional methods, the TSE greatly shortens extraction time, obviously raises the extraction production, and decreases energy consumption. By combination of the DES-based TSE and UPLC, the analysis of flavonoids was accomplished within only 6 min, providing an ultra-rapid, environmentally friendly and promising choice for extraction and analysis of active compounds in natural products.

The primary objective of this study was to achieve high-efficiency, sustainable method for extracting quercetin from Pinus koraiensi s seed scales using a green chitosan–Cu–Fe catalyzed ultrasound–microwave continuous system. Key factors were screened and optimized, with the following optimal conditions: a liquid material ratio of 10:1 mL/g for both ultrasonic and microwave treatments, ultrasonic 10 min, 90 W, 40 °C; microwave irradiation at 303 W for 8.19 min; and exogenous chitosan–Cu–Fe at 0.6 %, achieving an actual yield of 3.13 mg/g. The optimal process was compared with conventional Soxhlet extraction, used as a benchmark to evaluate the new method's efficiency. Kinetic analysis showed equilibrium at 12.5 and 50 min, with yields of 3.33 and 3.23 mg/g, respectively, while prolonged high-temperature exposure extraction caused partial degradation of the extract. Life cycle assessment and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry confirmed the superior stability and environmental sustainability of the optimal process. Mechanistic evaluation indicated that the extraction followed a second-order kinetics model; with the second-stage activation energy (87.56 kJ/mol) primarily governed by extraction, indicating that regulating the temperature enhances efficiency and reduces losses. Ultrasonic cavitation and microwave heating enhance extraction efficiency, while chitosan–Cu–Fe improves stability by increasing active sites and facilitating electron transfer. The process offers environmental and sustainability benefits, providing insights into the valorization of forest residues.

Jianghua Kucha (JHKC) is an ancient tea germplasm, which presents a high value for resource utilization but was less developed in aroma research. In this study, volatile metabolites in fresh leaves and corresponding black teas of JHKC, along with odorants of JHKC black teas were systematically investigated using stir-bar sorptive extraction in combination with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and GC–olfactometry/MS (GC–O/MS) technologies. A total of 128 and 135 volatile compounds were identified in fresh leaves and black teas, respectively, along with 13 key differential volatile components derived from fatty acids, pigments, glycoside precursors, and the terpene pathway. An odorant wheel for JHKC black teas was developed based on 29 important odorants determined through a combination of GC–O/MS perception, aroma extract dilution analysis, odor activity value measurement. Trans - β -Damascenone, cis -jasmone, and cis -jasmin lactone have been identified as significant contributors to the “sweet” flavor of JHKC black teas.
