In this study, a green, highly efficient and low energy consumption preparation method of cellulose nanofiber (CNF) was developed by using agricultural and forestry waste durian rinds as raw materials. The power of ultrasonic treatment was successfully reduced to only 360 W with low molecular weight liquid DMSO. The obtained durian rind-based CNF had a diameter of 8–20 nm and a length of several micrometers. It had good dispersion and stability in water, and could spontaneously cross-link to form hydrogel at room temperature when the concentration was more than 0.5%. The microscopic morphology and compressive properties of CNF aerogels and composite cellulose aerogels prepared from durian rind-based CNF were evaluated. It was found that CNF could effectively prevent the volume shrinkage of aerogel, and the concentration of CNF had a significant effect on the microstructure and mechanical properties of aerogel. The CNF aerogel with 1% CNF exhibited a sheet structure braced by fibers, which had the strongest compression performance. The porosity of CNF aerogels was high to 99%. The compressive strength of the composite cellulose aerogel with durian rind-based CNF was effectively enhanced. Keywords:durian rind;cellulose nanofiber;dimethyl sulfoxide;ultrasonic;aerogel
How to use simple and effective methods to achieve the recycling of discarded durian shell (DP) is still a huge challenge. Herein, the one-step in situ hydrophobic modification method based on self-generated surface roughness of low surface energy polysiloxane nanofilaments is proposed to prepare natural armor-protecting absorbent from discarded DP while imparting the absorbent versatility. This method gives the absorbent outstanding oil-water selectivity . For the absorption of chloroform , the absorbent can reach the absorption equilibrium in only 10 s, holding rapid absorption kinetics. The absorbent also shows a good recyclability and high oil retention capacity. In addition, the hydrophobicity also allows the absorbent to remove particulate pollutants from the surface, holding exceptional self-cleaning ability. Direct turning the pristine DP into the multifunctional material provides simpler preparation process, which can be used as a new design idea for the practical application of the DP.
Recently, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), which are porous inorganic–organic hybrid materials consisting of metal ions (clusters or secondary building units) and organic ligands through coordination bonds, have attracted wide attention because of their high surface area, huge ordered porosity, uniform structural cavities, and excellent thermal/chemical stability. In this work, durian shell biomass carbon fiber and Fe3O4functionalized metal–organic framework composite material (durian shell fiber-Fe3O4-MOF, DFM) was synthesized and employed for the adsorption removal of methylene blue (MB) from wastewater. The morphology, structure, and chemical elements of the DFM material were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS) techniques. Adsorption conditions such as pH, adsorption time, and temperature were optimized. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics results show that the adsorption process of DFM material to MB is more in line with the Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Using these models, the maximum adsorption capacity of 53.31 mg/g was obtained by calculation. In addition, DFM material could be easily reused through an external magnet and the removal rate of MB was still 80% after five adsorption cycles. The obtained results show that DFM composite material, as an economical, environmentally friendly, recyclable new adsorbent, can simply and effectively remove MB from wastewater. Keywords:biomass fibers;durian shell;magnetic composite;adsorption
