The Role and Mechanism of Hyperoside against Depression-like Behavior in Mice via the NLRP1 Inflammasome

Aoqi Song,Zhenghua Wu,Wenjuan Zhao,Wenqing Shi,Ru Cheng,Jingjing Jiang,Zhuojun Ni,Han Qu,Xijier Qiaolongbatu,Guorong Fan,Yuefen Lou

Background and Objectives:Hypericum perforatum(HP) is widely used for depressive therapy. Nevertheless, the antidepressant effect and potential mechanism of hyperoside (Hyp), the main active component of HP, have not been determined. Materials and Methods: We performed ultra-performance liquid chromatography–quadrupole-time-of-flight–tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) technology to analyze the components in HP. Using data mining and network pharmacology methods, combined with Cytoscape v3.7.1 and other software, the active components, drug-disease targets, and key pathways of HP in the treatment of depression were evaluated. Finally, the antidepressant effects of Hyp and the mechanism involved were verified in chronic-stress-induced mice. Results: We identified 12 compounds from HP. Hyp, isoquercetin, and quercetin are the main active components of HP. The Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database (TCMSP), the Analysis Platform, DrugBank, and other databases were analyzed using data mining, and the results show that the active components of HP and depression are linked to targets such as TNF-, IL-2, TLR4, and so on. A potential signaling pathway that was most relevant to the antidepressant effects of Hyp is the C-type lectin receptor signaling pathway. Furthermore, the antidepressant effects of Hyp were examined, and it is verified for the first time that Hyp significantly alleviated depressive-like behaviors in chronic-stress-induced mice, which may be mediated by inhibiting the NLRP1 inflammasome through the CXCL1/CXCR2/BDNF signaling pathway. Conclusion: Hyp is one of the main active components of HP, and Hyp has antidepressant effects through the NLRP1 inflammasome, which may be connected with the CXCL1/CXCR2/BDNF signaling pathway.Keywords:depression;NLRP1 inflammasome;Hypericum perforatum;hyperoside;CXCL1/CXCR2;BDNF

Biotransformation of quercetin by Gliocladium deliquescens NRRL 1086

Jia-Qi XU,Ni FAN,Bo-Yang YU,Qian-Qian WANG,Jian ZHANG

With an attempt to synthesize high-value isoquercitrin (quercetin-3- O - β -D-glucopyranoside), we carried out the biotransformation of quercetin ( 1 ) by Gliocladium deliquescens NRRL 1086. Along with the aimed product quercetin 3- O - β -D-glycoside ( 2 ), three additional metabolites, 2-protocatechuoyl-phlorogucinol carboxylic acid ( 3 ), 2,4,6-trihydroxybenzoic acid ( 4 ), and protocatechuic acid ( 5 ), were also isolated. The time-course experiments revealed that there were two metabolic routes, regio-selectivity glycosylation and quercetin 2,3-dioxygenation, co-existing in the culture. Both glycosylation and oxidative cleavage rapidly took place after quercetin feeding; about 98% quercetin were consumed within the initial 8 h and the oxdized product (2-protocatechuoyl-phlorogucinol carboxylic acid) was hydrolyzed into two phenolic compounds (2,4,6-trihydroxybenzoic acid and protocatechuic acid). We also investigated the impact of glucose content and metal ions on the two reactions and found that high concentrations of glucose significantly inhibited the oxidative cleavage and improved the yield of isoquercitrin and that Ca 2+ , Fe 2+ , Mn 2+ , Mg 2+ , and Zn 2+ inhibited glycosylation. To test the promiscuity of this culture, we selected other four flavonols as substrates; the results demonstrated its high regio-selectivity glycosylation ability towards flavonols at C-3 hydroxyl. In conclusion, our findings indicated that the versatile microbe of G. deliquescens NRRL 1086 maitained abundant enzymes, deserving further research.

Hyperoside suppresses hypoxia-induced A549 survival and proliferation through ferrous accumulation via AMPK/HO-1 axis

Dan Chen,Ya-Xian Wu,Yu-bao Qiu,Bin-bin Wan,Gang Liu,Jun-liang Chen,Mu-dan Lu,Qing-feng Pang

Background Hypoxia is commonly existed in tumors and lead to cancer cell chemo/radio-resistance. It is well-recognized that tumor hypoxia is a major challenge for the treatment of various solid tumors . Hyperoside (quercetin-3-O-galactoside, Hy) possesses antioxidant effects and has been reported to protect against hypoxia/reoxygenation induced injury in cardiomyocytes . Therefore, Hy may be attractive compound applicable to hypoxia-related diseases . Purpose This study was designed to determine the role of Hy in hypoxia-induced proliferation of non-small cell lung cancer cells and the underlying mechanism. Study Design and Methods A549, a human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell line, was used in the present study. 1% O 2 was used to mimic the in vivo hypoxic condition of NSCLC. The potential mechanisms of Hy on hypoxia-induced A549 survival and proliferation, as well as the involvement of AMPK/HO-1 pathway were studied via CCK-8 assay, EdU staining, flow cytometry, qRT-PCR and western blot . Results We showed that pretreatment with Hy suppressed hypoxia-induced A549 survival and proliferation in dose-dependent manner. In terms of mechanism, hypoxia-treated A549 showed the lower AMPK phosphorylation and the reduced HO-1 expression, which were reversed by Hy pretreatment. Both AMPK inhibitor (Compound C) and HO-1 activity inhibitor (Zinc protoporphyrin IX) abolished Hy-evoked A549 cell death under hypoxia stimuli. Of note, Ferrous iron contributed to Hy-induced A549 cell death under hypoxia, while Hy had no effect on lipid peroxidation under hypoxia. Conclusion Taken together, our results highlighted the beneficial role of Hy against hypoxia-induced A549 survival and proliferation through ferrous accumulation via AMPK/HO-1 axis.

Therapeutic effects on H1N1-induced pneumonia in mice and intestinal bacteria biotransformation of four main flavonoids from Houttuynia cordata Thunb.

Jiayue Tang,Lishuang Zhou,Guoqi Yuan,Yang Liu,Xunlong Shi,Yan Lu,Daofeng Chen

Flavonoids widely exist in a large number of Chinese herbal medicines with antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Houttuynia cordata Thunb. is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine for heat-clearing and detoxification. In our previous research, total flavonoids from H. cordata (HCTF) effectively alleviated H1N1-induced acute lung injury (ALI) in mice. In this study, 8 flavonoids were recognized from HCTF (containing 63.06 % ± 0.26 % of total flavonoids, as quercitrin equivalents) by UPLC-LTQ-MS/MS. Four main flavonoid glycosides in HCTF (rutin, hyperoside , isoquercitrin and quercitrin) and their common aglycone quercetin (100 mg/kg) all showed therapeutic effects on H1N1-induced ALI in mice. The two flavonoids (hyperoside and quercitrin) with higher contents and quercetin showed stronger therapeutic effects on H1N1-induced ALI in mice. Hyperoside, quercitrin and quercetin significantly reduced the levels of pro-inflammatory factors, chemokines , or neuraminidase activity compared with the same dose of HCTF ( p  < 0.05). The results of mice intestinal bacteria biotransformation in vitro showed that quercetin was the main metabolite. The conversion rates of hyperoside and quercitrin were significantly higher by the intestinal bacteria under the pathological state (0.81 ± 0.02 and 0.91 ± 0.01, respectively) than normal state (0.18 ± 0.01 and 0.18 ± 0.12, respectively, p  < 0.001). Our findings showed that hyperoside and quercitrin were the main efficacious components of HCTF for treating H1N1-induced ALI in mice and could be metabolized to quercetin by intestinal bacteria in pathological state to exert their effects.

Piezo1 inhibitor isoquercitrin rescues neural impairment mediated by NLRP3 after intracerebral hemorrhage

Tingwang Guo,Gang Chen,Lin Yang,Jia Deng,Yun Pan

In intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), the mechanical brain injury is a considerable and indispensable factor determining the neurological functions and poor outcomes. Previous studies indicate the mechanically gated ion channel-Piezo1 can transduce mechanical effects following ICH. Isoquercitrin (ISQ) is a well-studied ion channel inhibitor. Furthermore, whether the following Piezo1-mediated neurological impairment can be ameliorated by ISQ remains unclear. Herein, we constructed the hydrostatic pressure model and ICH rat model. Firstly, we found that Piezo1 agonists Yoda1 and Jedi1 facilitated extracellular calcium influx dramatically, but ISQ could depress intracellular Ca 2+ overload under hydrostatic pressure in primary neurons. Then we detected the expression profile of Piezo1, NLRP3 and NF-κB p-p65 after ICH, and found that the expression of Piezo1 was much earlier than NLRP3 and NF-κB p-p65. Furthermore, by western blot and immunofluorescence, ISQ decreased the expression of Piezo1 and NLRP3 dramatically like GsMTx4, but Nigericin as a NLRP3 agonist failed to affect Piezo1. Besides, both ISQ and interfering Piezo1 suppressed the upregulated caspase-1, NF-κB p-p65, p-IκBα, Tunel-positive cells and inflammatory factors (IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α) in ICH. At last, the hydrostatic pressure or hematoma induced disturbed neural viability, disordered neural cytomorphology, and increased neurobehavioral and cognitive deficits, but they were improved by ISQ and GsMTx4 strongly. Therefore, ISQ could alleviate neurological injuries induced by Piezo1 via NLRP3 pathway. These observations indicated that Piezos might be the new therapeutic targets, and blocking Piezos/NLRP3 pathway by ISQ could be an auspicious strategy for the treatment of ICH.

Purification of quercetin-3-O-sophoroside and isoquercitrin from Poacynum hendersonii leaves using macroporous resins followed by Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography

Hongjuan Li,Ying Liu,Yuetao Yi,Qin miao,Sujing Liu,Feng Zhao,Wei Cong,Chunhua Wang,Chuanhai Xia

In China, Poacynum hendersonii is frequently used as a substitute for Apoacynum venetum L (Luobuma), which is a famous traditional Chinese medicine. Quercetin-3- O -sophoroside and isoquercitrin are two major flavonoids in Poacynum hendersonii leaves. In this work, a suitable method was established for the large-scale preparation of quercetin-3- O -sophoroside (QOS) and isoquercitrin (ISO) from Poacynum hendersonii leaves using macroporous resin combined with Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. The adsorption/desorption capacities and desorption ratios of six macroporous resins were evaluated using static experiments. The HPD-300 resin had the best adsorption performance because it had the largest surface area, and was selected for further study. Compared with pseudo-first-order and intraparticle diffusion kinetics models, the pseudo-second-order model could better fit the adsorption kinetics of both QOS and ISO on the HPD-300 resin. In addition, the adsorption isotherms of the two compounds on the HPD-300 resin were fitted well to the Langmuir model. Under optimal conditions, the purities of QOS and ISO in the product were increased from 2.16% and 1.26% to 21.34% and 10.70% with recovery yields of 82.1% and 77.3%, respectively. Subsequently, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography was employed for improving the purities of the two compounds. After separation by Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, the purities of QOS and ISO achieved 93.5% and 95.6%, respectively.

Hyperoside inhibits pancreatic lipase activity in vitro and reduces fat accumulation in vivo

Xinyue Zhang,Dan Li,Kexin Wang,Jiao Xie,Yaojie Liu,Tianxin Wang,Suwen Liu,Qun Huang,Qingbin Guo,Hao Wang

Hyperoside, the main component of many anti-obesity plants, might exhibit a lipase inhibition effect to reduce fat accumulation. The anti-obesity effect of hyperoside was investigated by studying its inhibitory effect and mechanism on pancreatic lipase in vitro and evaluating its ability to reduce lipid accumulation in vivo. Hyperoside is a mixed-type inhibitor of lipase with an IC50 of 0.67 ± 0.02 mmol L−in vitro. Hyperoside changed the secondary conformation of lipase, increased the α-helix content, and changed the microenvironment of lipase through static quenching. The interaction between hyperoside and lipase results from a strong binding spontaneous exothermic reaction, mainly through hydrogen bonding, van der Waals force and electrostatic force. Hyperoside protected hepatic lipid accumulation and adipose tissue hypertrophy and reduced the expression of inflammatory factors in high-fat diet-induced rats. Moreover, hyperoside had a good inhibitory effect on lipase activity in serum and increased fecal fat excretion, thereby reducing lipid absorption in vivo. This study provides theoretical support for the research and development of hyperoside in fat-reducing functional foods.

Network pharmacology analysis and experimental verification of the antithrombotic active compounds of trichosanthis pericarpium (Gualoupi) in treating coronary heart disease

Kai-rou Xia,Xiao-yu Zhang,Huang-qin Zhang,Ke-lei Su,Er-xin Shang,Qing-ling Xiao,Wei-wen Li,Sheng Guo,Jin-ao Duan,Pei Liu

Ethnopharmacological relevance Trichosanthis pericarpium (TP; Gualoupi, pericarps of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim) has been used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to reduce heat, resolve phlegm, promote Qi, and clear chest congestion. It is also an essential herbal ingredient in the “Gualou Xiebai” formula first recorded by Zhang Zhongjing (from the Eastern Han Dynasty) in the famous TCM classic “Jin-Guì-Yào-Lüe” for treating chest impediments. According to its traditional description, Gualou Xiebai is indicated for symptoms of chest impediments, which correspond to coronary heart diseases (CHD). Aim of the study This study aimed to identify the antithrombotic compounds in Gualoupi for the treatment of CHD. Materials and methods A CHD rat model was established with a combination of high-fat diet and isoproterenol hydrochloride (ISO) administration via subcutaneous multi-point injection in the back of the neck. This model was used to evaluate the antithrombotic effect of two mainstream cultivars of TP (“HaiShi GuaLou” and “WanLou”) by analyzing the main components and their effects. Network pharmacology, molecular docking-based studies, and a zebrafish ( Danio rerio ) thrombosis model induced by phenylhydrazine was used to validate the antithrombosis components of TP. Results TP significantly reduced the body weight of the CHD rats, improved myocardial ischemia, and reduced collagen deposition and fibrosis around the infarcted tissue. It reduced thrombosis in a dose-dependent manner and significantly reduced inflammation and oxidative stress damage. Cynaroside, isoquercitrin, rutin, citrulline, and arginine were identified as candidate active TP compounds with antithrombotic effects. The key potential targets of TP in thrombosis treatment were initially identified by molecular docking-based analysis, which showed that the candidate active compounds have a strong binding affinity to the potential targets (protein kinase C alpha type [PKCα], protein kinase C beta type [PKCβ], von Willebrand factor [vWF], and prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 1 [PTGS1], fibrinogen alpha [Fga], fibrinogen beta [Fgb], fibrinogen gamma [Fgg], coagulation factor II [F2], and coagulation factor VII [F7]). In addition, the candidate active compounds reduced thrombosis, improved oxidative stress damage, and down-regulated the expression of thrombosis-related genes (PKCα, PKCβ, vWF, PTGS1, Fga, Fgb, Fgg, F2, and F7) in the zebrafish model. Conclusion Cynaroside, isoquercitrin, rutin, citrulline, and arginine were identified as the active antithrombotic compounds of TP used to treat CHD. Mechanistically, the active compounds were found to be involved in oxidative stress injury, platelet activation pathway, and complement and coagulation cascade pathways.

Cardioprotection of Eucommiae Folium: the extract and pharmaceutically active compounds attenuate hyperglycemia, mitochondrial dysfunction, calcium dyshomeostasis, insulin resistance, and oxidative stress in diabetic cardiomyopathy db/db mice

Zhang Shuai-nan,Liu Qi,Li Xu-zhao,Yang Wu-de,Zhou Ying

ObjectivesA biolabel research based on multi-omics, informatics, molecular docking, and experimental verification was used to investigate the cardioprotective effect and pharmaceutically active compounds of Eucommiae Folium (EF).Key findingsBased on the biolabel research pattern, metabonomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics indicated that EF has a therapeutic potential for a variety of heart diseases, especially cardiomyopathy, and the most critical mechanism involved is the diabetic cardiomyopathy pathway. Bioinformatics, cheminformatics, and molecular docking showed that 24 EF compounds may play a therapeutic role in diabetic cardiomyopathy via this pathway. Among which, four compounds (kaempferol, esculetin, (+)-catechin, and astragalin) showed appropriate pharmacokinetic parameters and formed stable binding with biolabels in the pathway. In diabetic cardiomyopathy db/db mice, histopathological analysis, mitochondrial swelling and membrane potential assay, ELISA, and biochemical analysis demonstrated that EF and four active compounds had obvious hypoglycemic effects and attenuated myocardial damage and related pathological processes, such as mitochondrial dysfunction, calcium dyshomeostasis, insulin resistance, and oxidative stress.ConclusionsThis study provides new evidence and insights into the effect, mechanism, and material basis of EF in treating diabetic cardiomyopathy.

Discovery of acylated isoquercitrin derivatives as potent anti-neuroinflammatory agents in vitro and in vivo

Jie Liu,Ailing Hui,Jinghe Wang,Qingfeng Hu,Shengnan Li,Yuanli Chen,Zeyu Wu,Wencheng Zhang

Neuroinflammation is considered as an important pathological mechanism in neurodegenerative diseases. The natural isoquercitrin (IQ) was reported to have potential anti-neuroinflammatory activity. The acylation of glycoside in IQ enhanced its hydrophobicity, which was expected to enhance the protective effect against inflammation. In this study, three carboxylic acids with anti-neuroinflammatory effects including cinnamic acid, ibuprofen (IBU) and acetylsalicylic acid were introduced into the 6''-OH of IQ through the corresponding vinyl esters intermediates ( 8a-8c ). Ultimately, the acylated IQ derivatives (Compound 9a-9c ) were obtained with 35–42% yields using immobilized lipase Novozym 435 as catalyst. Subsequently, their anti-neuroinflammatory activities were evaluated in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced BV2 cells. Compound 9b improved cell viability in the range of ≤50 μM and significantly decreased NO, PGE 2 production and TNF-α, IL-1β release and oxidative stress level with a concentration-dependent manner. Also, it could downregulate iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α and IL-1β expression levels, approximately 40% reduction were achieved when 15 μM compound 9b was employed. In addition, compound 9b resisted phosphorylation and degradation of IkBαs, suppressing the activation of NF-κB signaling pathway, exhibiting excellent neuroinflammatory inhibition. Moreover, the administration of compound 9b (30, 60 mg/kg) alleviated behavioral disorders and neuronal damages in LPS-induced neuroinflammatory mice. Meanwhile, the decreased TNF-α, IL-1β release, expression and the inhibited glial cells activation were obtained in compound 9b -treated group, which was superior to that of IQ or IBU. Overall, these findings demonstrated that compound 9b , formed by the introduction of ibuprofen into IQ, can serve as a novel promising therapeutic agent for anti-neuroinflammation.

Chang-Kang-Fang alleviates diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) through inhibiting TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway

Sihao Zhang,Danmei Tian,Zixuan Xia,Fengge Yang,Yanhui Chen,Zhihong Yao,Yi He,Xinglong Miao,Guirong Zhou,Xinsheng Yao,Jinshan Tang

Ethnopharmacological relevance Chang-Kang-Fang (CKF), originated from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulas, has been utilized to treat diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) based on clinical experience. However, the underlying mechanism of CKF for treating IBS-D remains unclear and need further clarification. Aim of the study The objective of this present investigation was to validate the efficacy of CKF on IBS-D model rats and to uncover its potential mechanism for the treatment of IBS-D. Materials and Methods We first established the IBS-D rat model through neonatal maternal separation (NMS) in combination with restraint stress (RS) and the administration of senna decoction via gavage. To confirm the therapeutic effect of CKF on treating IBS-D, abdominal withdrawal reflex (AWR) scores, the quantity of fecal pellets, and the fecal water content (FWC) were measured to evaluate the influence of CKF on visceral hypersensitivity and the severity of diarrhea symptom after the intragastric administration of CKF for 14 days. Subsequently, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was applied to assess the effect of CKF on neuropeptides substance P (SP) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), as well as inflammatory cytokines in serum and in intestinal tissues. Further, colonic pathological changes, the amount of colonic mast cells, and the expression level of occludin in rat colon tissues, were investigated by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, toluidine blue staining, and immunohistochemistry, respectively. To explore the underlying mechanisms, alterations in colonic RNA transcriptomics for the normal, model, and CKF treatment groups were assessed using RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq). Subsequently, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), western blot (WB), and immunofluorescence (IF) assays were applied to validate the effect of CKF on predicted pathways in vivo and in vitro . In addition, to elucidate the potential active compounds in CKF, 11 representative components found in CKF were selected, and their anti-inflammation potentials were evaluated using LPS-treated RAW264.7 cell models. Results CKF treatment significantly reduced the number of fecal pellets, attenuated visceral hypersensitivity, and decreased 5-HT and SP concentrations in serum and colon tissues, along with a reduction in colonic mast cell counts, correlating with improved symptoms in IBS-D rats. Meanwhile, CKF treatment reduced the colonic inflammatory cell infiltration, lowered the levels of IL-6, TNF- α , and IL-1 β in serum and colon tissues, and increased the occludin protein expression in colon tissues to improve inflammatory response and colonic barrier function. RNA-Seq, in conjugation with our previous network pharmacology analysis, indicated that CKF might mitigate the symptoms of IBS-D rats by inhibiting the Toll like receptor 4/Nuclear factor kappa-B/NLR family pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (TLR4/NF- κ B/NLRP3) pathway, which was confirmed by WB, IF, and qRT-PCR experiments in vivo and in vitro . Furthermore, coptisine, berberine, hyperoside, epicatechin, and gallic acid present in CKF emerged as potential active components for treating IBS-D, as they demonstrated in vitro anti-inflammatory effects. Conclusion Our findings demonstrate that CKF effectively improves the symptoms of IBS-D rats, potentially through the inhibition of the TLR4/NF- κ B/NLRP3 pathway. Moreover, this study unveils the potential bioactive components in CKF that could be applied in the treatment of IBS-D.

Interactions of pharmacokinetic profile of different parts from Ginkgo biloba extract in rats

HanLiang Guan,Dawei Qian,Hao Ren,Wei Zhang,Hui Nie,Erxing Shang,Jinao Duan

Ethnopharmacological relevance Extracts from Ginkgo biloba L. leaves confer their therapeutic effects through the synergistic actions of flavonoid and terpenoid components, but some non-flavonoid and non-terpenoid components also exist in this extract. In the study of this paper, an investigation was carried out to compare the pharmacokinetic parameters of fourteen compounds to clarify the influences of non-flavonoid and non-terpenoid fraction (WEF) on the pharmacokinetics profile of the flavonoid fraction (FF) and the terpene lactone fraction (TLF) from Ginkgo biloba extracts . Materials and methods A selective and sensitive UPLC–MS/MS method was established to determine the plasma concentrations of the fourteen compounds to compare the pharmacokinetic parameters after orally administration of FF, TLF, FF–WEF, FF–TLF, TLF–WEF and FF–TLF–WEF with approximately the same dose. At different time points, the concentration of rutin (1), isoquercitrin (2), quercetin 3-O-[4-O-(-β-D-glucosyl)-α-L-rhamnoside] (3), ginkgolide C (4), bilobalide (5), quercitrin (6), ginkgolide B (7), ginkgolide A (8), luteolin (9), quercetin (10), apigenin (11), kaempferol (12), isorhamnetin (13), genkwanin (14) in rat plasma were determined and main pharmacokinetic parameters including T 1/2 , T max , C max and AUC were calculated using the DAS 3.2 software package. The statistical analysis was performed using the Student׳s t-test with P <0.05 as the level of significance. Results FF and WEF had no effect on the pharmacokinetic behaviors and parameters of the four terpene lactones, but the pharmacokinetic profiles and parameters of flavonoids changed while co-administered with non-flavonoid components. It was found that C max and AUC of six flavonoid aglycones in group FF–WEF, FF–TLF and FF–TLF–WEF had varying degrees of reduction in comparison with group FF, especially in group FF–TLF–WEF. On the contrary, the values of C max , T max and AUC of four flavonoid glycosides in group FF–TLF–WEF were significantly increased compared with those in group FF. Conclusions These results indicate that non-flavonoid components in Ginkgo biloba extracts could increase the absorption and improve the bioavailability of flavonoid glycosides but decrease the absorption and reduce the bioavailability of flavonoid aglycones.
