The design and development of high-performance photocatalysts from three aspects of simultaneous enhancement of light harvest, carrier migration rate, and redox reaction rate is still a great challenge. Herein, a novel Co 9 S 8 /CdIn 2 S 4 ohmic junction with a robust internal electric field (IEF) is successfully prepared via hydrothermal and in situ synthesis methods and is used for effective photocatalytic H 2 evolution (PHE). Under simulated visible light irradiation, the PHE rate of 5% Co 9 S 8 /CdIn 2 S 4 can reach 1083.6 μmol h −1 g −1 , which is 6.4 times higher than that of CdIn 2 S 4 (170.5 μmol h −1 g −1 ). The enhanced PHE performance is mainly ascribed to the improved light harvest and carrier separation efficiency and fast surface H 2 evolution kinetics. Moreover, Co 9 S 8 nanotubes serve as promising Co-based cocatalysts that can evidently enhance PHE activity. Additionally, Co 9 S 8 /CdIn 2 S 4 shows superior stability because the photogenerated carrier transfer path restrains the photocorrosion behavior. The photocatalytic mechanism is proposed based on experimental results and DFT calculations. This work offers new insights for the design and development of highly active photocatalysts from interface engineering.

Photocatalytic reduction of CO 2 to chemical fuels is a promising strategy to alleviate the greenhouse effect and energy crisis. This article successfully fabricated Ag/CdS composites with ohmic junction using a two-step method and further verified them by DFT calculations. Meanwhile, photoelectrochemical and electron paramagnetic resonance tests show that Ag/CdS has higher photocurrent density and lower charge transfer resistance, suggesting that the ohmic junction achieves ultrafast electron transfer from CdS to Ag under light irradiation, significantly promoting the separation of photogenerated carriers. Furthermore, the localized plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Ag enhances the light absorption of the catalyst and generates a large number of hot electrons for the photocatalytic reduction reaction. The synergistic effect of ohmic junction and LSPR gives high electron density at the reaction site, which promotes the multiple proton-coupled electron reactions leading to highly selective photoconversion of CO 2 to CH 4 . Under the optimized conditions, the CH 4 yield of the synthesized Ag/CdS is 68.6 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 , which is 25.4 times higher than that of bare CdS, and the CH 4 selectivity increases from 53.8% to 90.1%. This study provides a new idea for the design of CdS-based materials for highly selective reduction of CO 2 to CH 4 .

Effectively separating photo-generated charge carriers is usually important but difficult for the high-activity photocatalysis. Fabricating 2D/2D Schottky-Ohmic junction is more beneficial to the spatial separation and transfer of photo-induced charges at the interface of different components due to the matching of distinct two-dimension structure and band alignment, but the manipulation and mastery of junction type (Schottky-Ohmic junction and Z-scheme junction) and electronic structure is an arduous task for preparing satisfactory photocatalysts and investigating the PHE mechanism. In this work, the 2D/2D WO 3 /Pt/ g -C 3 N 4 (WPC) Schottky-Ohmic junction composite photocatalysts is formed via facile hydrothermal and photo-induced deposition method for employing to produce H 2 . The optimized WPC Schottky-Ohmic junction photocatalyst exhibits remarkable photocatalytic H 2 -release performance with ability to produce the amount of H 2 reaches 1299.4 μmol upon exposure to visible light, which is about 1.2 and 11.5 times higher than that of WO 3 / g -C 3 N 4 /Pt (WCP) (1119.4 μmol) and pure CN (113.2 μmol)), respectively. This remarkable enhancement of photocatalytic performance is ascribed to: (i) Schottky-Ohmic junction can strikingly expedite spatial charge separation and elongate electron lifetime, (ii) the 2D/2D structure can shorten the charge transportation distance, (iii) Pt with rich electron density can stably adsorb H + . This work provides a successful paradigm for future fundamental research, and exquisitely designs ideal g -C 3 N 4 -based photocatalysts by simultaneously adjusting and optimizing material structure and electronic dynamics.

Methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) and urea oxidation reaction (UOR) can be utilized as effective alternatives to the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in overall water-splitting. Nevertheless, the development of cost-effective, highly efficient and durable electrocatalysts for MOR and UOR remains a significant challenge. Herein, the Ohmic junction (Ni-CuCoN 0.6 @CC) comprising CuCoN 0.6 nanosheets and Ni nanoparticles anchored on carbon cloth (CC) was successfully synthesized via a two-step hydrothermal process followed by pyrolysis. The Ni-CuCoN 0.6 @CC demonstrates exceptional performance in both MOR (1.334 V@10 mA cm −2 ) and UOR (1.335 V@10 mA cm −2 ), coupled with outstanding durability, maintaining 88.70 % current density for MOR and 88.92 % for UOR after a rigorous 50-h stability test. Furthermore, the Ni-CuCoN 0.6 @CC demonstrates a high selectivity for oxidizing methanol to formic acid, achieving Faraday efficiencies exceeding 90 % at various current densities in the context of MOR. The outstanding performance of Ni-CuCoN0 .6 @CC in terms of MOR and UOR either surpasses or closely approaches the levels reported in previous literature, primarily due to the synergistic effect resulting from the Ohmic junction: in this system, Ni serves as the principal active component, Co augments catalytic activity and diminishes onset potential, while Cu enhances long-term durability. Moreover, CuCoN 0.6 nanosheets effectively modulate electronic structure and optimize the morphology of Ni, leading to the exposure of numerous defects that provide a wealth of active sites for the reaction. Additionally, the exceptional hydrophilic and aerophobic surface promotes enhanced mass transfer. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that Ni-CuCoN 0.6 @CC enhances reactant adsorption and product desorption, reducing energy barriers and expediting MOR and UOR kinetics.
