Uncontrollable bleeding and excessive blood loss are the primary causes of death on the battlefield and in accidents. However, commercial hemostatic materials possess individual drawbacks for hemostasis. Here, we present a rapid hemostatic powder (SACC-GO) with high biosafety, which is fabricated by a facile ball milling method using inexpensive raw materials (sodium alginate (SA), calcium chloride, cerium nitrate and graphene oxide (GO)). The SACC-GO could immediately become gel when meeting blood, whose strength was enhanced due to specific surface area of GO and high coordination capacity of Ce 3+ ions. In addition, the SACC-GO had a high water absorption rate (~2000 %) allow it to concentrate blood and release Ca 2+ ions to improve blood coagulation. The in vitro and in vivo results, such as hemostasis in tail amputation, femoral hemostasis and hepatic hemostasis, exhibited excellent hemostasis effects by reducing hemostasis time and blood loss (with the majority of reductions exceeding 50 %). The SACC-GO also enhanced wound healing due to Ce ions scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS). Thus, the SACC-GO hemostatic powder had great potential for rapid hemostasis.

Uncontrolled hemorrhage remains a critical global health challenge, particularly in cases of non-compressible bleeding. This study presents a sequentially dual-crosslinked hemostatic powder that combines rapid hydration-activated electrostatic gelation with photo-triggered covalent reinforcement. The powder consists of negatively charged double bond-functionalized polyacrylic acid (PAA-db) and positively charged polyethyleneimine (PEI), enabling ultrafast fluid absorption and self-gelation upon contact with biological fluids. Subsequent light irradiation induces covalent crosslinking, enhancing the mechanical property. The powder-derived dual-crosslinked PAA-db/PEI (dPAA-db/PEI) hydrogel enables rapid and robust tissue adhesion. In the severe non-compressible hemorrhage models, the hemostatic powder outperforms clinical hemostatic agents (fibrin glue, CELOX powder), in terms of minimizing hemostatic time and blood loss. This hemostatic powder offers a promising solution for managing severe non-compressible hemorrhage, demonstrating rapid sealing, robust mechanical performance, and excellent biocompatibility.

Uncontrolled hemorrhage, especially in non-compressible and deep wounds, remains a critical issue in emergency and surgical care. Existing hemostatic powders often lack rapid gelation, mechanical robustness, and adequate adherence, increasing the risk of rebleeding under high-pressure blood flow. To address these limitations, PQPP, a novel self-gelling hemostatic material composed of polyacrylamide/quaternized chitosan coacervates and polydopamine nanoparticles is developed. PQPP can rapidly absorb blood within 2 s, undergoes in situ gelation, and forms a robust adhesive hydrogel to effectively seal wounds. Its efficacy stems from the electrostatic adsorption and catechol functional groups of polydopamine nanoparticles. Importantly, PQPP exhibits high burst pressure resistance, excellent blood cell aggregation capability, outstanding biocompatibility, and antibacterial properties. Comprehensive in vitro and in vivo studies, including cytotoxicity and blood compatibility tests, as well as trials in mouse liver, heart, and vascular injury models, demonstrate PQPP's superior hemostatic performance under high-pressure conditions without causing inflammation. With its rapid gelation, robust adhesion, and mechanical integrity, PQPP represents a promising hemostatic material for immediate wound management in surgical and emergency applications.

Hemostatic materials combining rapid bleeding control with regenerative potential remain a major clinical need. Here, we report a bioinspired hemostatic powder (GSHD) engineered through molecular conjugation of thiolated gelatin and dopamine-modified hyaluronic acid. Upon contact with biofluids, GSHD rapidly gels via dynamic thiol-catechol cross-linking, achieving ultrafast hydration (<5 s) and forming a robust hydrogel. This hydrogel exhibits high blood absorption (569.2 ± 46.3%), strong tissue adhesion (28.3 ± 3 kPa), and burst pressure resistance (216.2 ± 10.5 mmHg), enabling effective sealing under high-flow conditions. In vivo tests in rat liver, cardiac, and femoral artery models show rapid hemostasis (<30 s) with minimal blood loss. Additionally, GSHD promotes M2 macrophage polarization, enhances angiogenesis, and supports organized collagen deposition, facilitating tissue regeneration. By integrating rapid sealing, antioxidant activity, and biomimetic extracellular matrix cues, GSHD represents a paradigm shift in hemostatic design, bridging emergency care with functional tissue repair.
