Fleroxacin (FLE) is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic widely used in animal husbandry, veterinary medicine and aquaculture. Eating animal-derived foods with FLE residues can cause allergies, poisoning or drug resistance. The water-soluble QDs (CdSe/ZnS) and anti-FLE monoclonal antibody (mAb) were used to prepare a fluorescent probe by the method of N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N′-ethylcarbodimide hydrochloride (EDC) activation. The fluorescent probe was characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS). The better bioactivity and stability of the fluorescent probe was obtained under the pH value of 8.0, the molecule molar ratio of EDC (1 : 2000) and anti-FLE monoclonal antibodies (1 : 10). The control line (C line) and test line (T line) of a nitrocellulose (NC) filter membrane were sprayed with SPA (0.05 mg mL−1) and FLE-OVA (1.4 mg mL−1) solutions with optimal concentration, respectively. A novel method of fluorescent immunochromatographic assay based on quantum dots (QDs-ICA) in this work exhibited good accuracy, reproductivity and excellent specificity under the optimal experimental conditions. Compared with the traditional method for the visual detection of FLE, the developed QDs-ICA can successfully determine FLE residues in pork meat with a better cut-off value of 2.5 ng mL−1. The QDs-ICA could be adapted for the rapid preliminary detection of FLE residues in pork meat for the first time.

Flumequine (FLU) is a kind of fluoroquinolone antibiotics and has become a concerned pollutant as following widespread use of antibiotics and abuse to some extends. In this study, a microporous carbon derived from hydroxyl functionalized organic network (MON-OH-C) was prepared via the carbonization of a new member of MON-OH under nitrogen atmosphere at 500 °C. The adsorption kinetics, isotherm, thermodynamics and influence factors of pH, ionic strength, and humic acid on MON-OH-C for FLU adsorption were investigated in detail. The regeneration, reusability, application potentials and adsorption mechanism were further discussed. The adsorption of FLU on MON-OH-C accorded with the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Sips adsorption models. Rely on the interaction of π - π and hydrogen bonding between FLU and MON-OH-C, the maximum adsorption capacity for FLU under the static and solid phase extraction (SPE) dynamic conditions were 279.8 and 180.1 mg·g −1 , which were higher than many other reported adsorbents. MON-OH-C can be anticipated as a powerful adsorbent owing to its large surface area, physical and chemical stability, good water dispersibility, high adsorption and regeneration capability. It has great application potentials in adsorption removal, SPE sample pretreatment, and fix bed column. This work promoted the development of new synthesis strategy and the extensive application of pollutant removals by MON-OH-C in environmental science.

In recent years, flumequine (FLU) has been ubiquitously detected in surface waters and municipal wastewaters . In light of its potential negative impacts to aquatic species, growing concern has been arisen for the removal of this antibiotic from natural waters. In this study, the kinetics, degradation mechanisms and pathways of aqueous FLU by persulfate (PS) oxidation were systematically determined. Three common activation methods, including heat, Fe 2+ and Cu 2+ , and a novel heterogeneous catalyst, namely, polyhydroquinone-coated magnetite/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Fe 3 O 4 /MWCNTs/PHQ), were investigated to activate PS for FLU removal. It was found that these three common activators enhanced FLU degradation obviously, while several influencing factors, such as solution pH, inorganic ions (especially HCO 3 − at 5 mmol/L) and dissolved organic matter extracts, exerted their different effects on FLU removal. The catalysts were characterized, and an efficient catalytic degradation performance, high stability and excellent reusability were observed. The measured total organic carbon levels suggested that FLU can be effectively mineralized by using the catalysts. Radical mechanism was studied by combination of the quenching tests and electron paramagnetic resonance analysis. It was assumed that sulfate radicals predominated in the activation of PS with Fe 3 O 4 /MWCNTs/PHQ for FLU removal, while hydroxyl radicals also contributed to the catalytic oxidation process. In addition, a total of fifteen reaction intermediates of FLU were identified, from which two possible pathways were proposed involving hydroxylation, decarbonylation and ring opening. Overall, this study represented a systematical evaluation regarding the transformation process of FLU by PS, and showed that the heterogeneous catalysts can efficiently activate PS for FLU removal from the water environment.

Flumequine, a quinolone antibacterial drug, has been widely used in aquiculture. However, excess use of flumequine may lead to antibiotic residues in animals and its rapid determination remains a challenge. In this study, a visual lanthanide metal–organic frame probe of Trp@ZIF-8/Tb3+ was used for the determination of flumequine. The probe was stepwise synthetized by tryptophan (Trp), zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), and terbium (III). In the presence of flumequine, the fluorescence of Tb3+ in Trp@ZIF-8/Tb3+ was sensitized. The fluorescence method was fast, requiring only 40 s, the detection range was wide from 0.03 to 1.53 μM, and the detection limit was 0.018 μM. Moreover, the Trp@ZIF-8/Tb3+ probe had good specificity and strong anti-interference ability, which was used for flumequine determination in milk, tap water, and serum. Furthermore, the Trp@ZIF-8/Tb3+ probe provided a method for the rapid determination of flumequine on test strips: The color changed from blue to green with increasing concentration. Hence, the developed Trp@ZIF-8/Tb3+ probe offers an efficient and convenient method for flumequine determination.

In this work, flumequine (FLU) enantiomers were separated using a Chiralpak OD-H column, with n-hexane-ethanol (20:80, v/v) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.6 mL/min. Solid phase extraction (SPE) was used for cleanup and enrichment. The limit of detection, limit of quantitation, linearity, precision, and intra/interday variation of the chiral high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method were determined. The developed method was then applied to investigate the degradation behavior of FLU enantiomers in mariculture pond water samples. The results showed that the degradation of FLU enantiomers under natural, sterile, or dark conditions was not enantioselective. Chirality 28:649–655, 2016 . © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Flumequine (Flu) is a fluoroquinolone veterinary antibiotic, which is easy to accumulate in animals, and Flu residues may cause a latent risk to human physiological health. In this study, a high-affinity monoclonal antibody (2.09 × 10 9 M −1 ) to specifically recognize Flu (anti-Flu mAb) was prepared, and then the lateral flow immunochromatographic strips (LFIS) with excellent sensitivity and specificity were developed by combining mAbs with nanoparticles. The linear detection ranges of LFIS based on gold particles (AuNP-LFIS) and gold nanoflowers (AuNF-LFIS) were 1.95–250 ng/mL and 0.39–100 ng/mL, respectively, and two types of LFIS showed high sensitivity and accuracy in actual sample detection. It is noteworthy that the AuNF-LFIS exhibited a higher sensitivity compared to that of the AuNP-LFIS. The LFIS developed in this study were considered to have great application potential in monitoring food safety because of its superiorities including simple operation, high sensitivity, prompted speed and good specificity.

In this study, a coordination imprinted polymer (CIP) solid-phase extraction (SPE) method was developed to determine the residues of flumequine (FLU) in fish samples. Silanized graphene oxide-doped CIP (SGO-CIP) monolithic column was prepared using FLU-Zn 2+ as template in the presence of SGO. The synthesis conditions of SGO-CIP column were optimized by the response surface methodology. Under the optimum conditions, this column showed high specificity to FLU, and the adsorption capacity reached 61.74 ng mg −1 . The enrichment factor of the monolithic column was over 40-fold. Various factors affecting the extraction efficiency of SGO-CIP column during SPE were tested to achieve optimal enrichment and to reduce non-specific adsorption. FLU in fish was detected by using a high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection system. The detection limit was as low as 0.32 ng g −1 and the recovery was as high as 95.2%, with relative standard deviations of below 5.9%. This simple and sensitive method may be applicable to the determination of FLU residues in foods.

Antibiotics are a new type of environmental pollutants. Due to its wide application in many fields, antibiotic residues are ubiquitous in the wastewater environments. Given their potential threat on water ecosystem functioning and public health, the detection of antibiotic residues in wastewater environments has become very necessary. Based on the complexation of Al 3+ with flumequine (FLU), ciprofloxacin (CIP) and doxycycline hydrochloride (DOX), their molecular conjugated area were increased and fluorescence intensity were enhanced, combined with synchronous fluorescence spectrometry (SFS) had good selectivity and high sensitivity, a novel method of Al 3+ sensitized synchronous fluorescence spectrometry for the determination of FLU , CIP and DOX residues in wastewater was established. When the wavelength difference (Δλ) was selected 115.0 nm, synchronous fluorescence spectra of the three antibiotics could be well separated and the interference of wastewater matrix were eliminated primely. The new SFS made good use of spectral separation instead of conventional chemical separation, and the actual wastewater sample could be directly determined after simple filtration. The experiment results showed that the concentrations of FLU, CIP and DOX in the range of 0.5000–800.0 ng·mL -1 , 0.5000–640.0 ng·mL -1 and 10.00–3500 ng·mL -1 had a good linear relationship with fluorescence intensity. The detection limits of three antibiotics were 0.02054 ng·mL -1 , 0.03956 ng·mL -1 and 0.8524 ng·mL -1 , respectively. Recovery rates of three antibiotics in wastewater samples were 90.72%-98.23%, 88.68%-95.08% and 85.94%-96.70%. The new SFS established in this experiment had the advantages of simple, rapid, sensitive, accurate and good selectivity. Simultaneous and rapid detection of FLU, CIP and DOX residues in wastewater was successfully realized. It had good application prospects in real-time water quality monitoring.

Flumequine (FLU) is widely used as an antibiotic in the treatment and control of animal diseases, which may result in the presence of residues harmful to humans in food products of animal origin. A novel and fast biomimetic enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (BELISA) was developed for the determination of FLU based on a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as a selective affinity agent. With an optimized molar ratio of FLU to methacrylic acid (MAA) of 1:2 determined by molecular dynamic simulations, the MIP was directly synthesized on the surface of a 96-well plate (as solid support) with FLU as the template molecule, MAA as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the cross-linker, and azodiisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator. Under the optimized conditions, the BELISA method was established with a sensitivity (IC 50 ) of 0.141 μg/mL and a detection limit (IC 15 ) of 1.09 × 10 −3 μg/mL. The developed method was applied to determine FLU concentrations in spiked beef and shrimp samples, with satisfactory recovery values ranging from 80.7 to 92.2% with relative standard deviations ( n = 3) between 3.3% and 7.0%. This method can be used for the rapid determination of FLU in animal foods and has promising applications in food safety monitoring.

The overuse of quinolone antibiotics has led to a series of health and environmental issues. Herein, we combine the distinct luminescence properties of Eu 3+ with the unique structure of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) to develop a precise and sensitive fluorescent probe for detecting Flumequine (Flu) in water. Eu 3+ is thoroughly anchored into the channels of COFs as recognition sites, while the synthesized probe material still maintains its intact framework structure. The unique structure of COFs provides excellent support and protection for Eu 3+ . Therefore, COF-Eu can rapidly bind with Flu which can transfer the absorbed energy to Eu 3+ through an “antenna effect”, resulting in red fluorescence. Moreover, there is a good linear relationship between Flu concentration in the range of 0–30 µM, with a detection limit of 41 nM. Simultaneously, the material maintains remarkable reproducibility, with its performance remaining almost unchanged after five cycles of use. Remarkably, the probe demonstrates excellent Flu recovery rates in real samples. This study provides a viable approach for the recognition of flumequine in the environment through a customized fluorescence detection method.

A reflective microfiber biosensor with fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is presented for detecting flumequine (Flu) concentration through successive surface modification with polydopamine (PDA) and europium-incorporated covalent organic framework (Eu@COF). The detection mechanism relies on refractive index (RI) changes induced by Flu adsorption, which are monitored by tracking of interference wavelength shifts. Experimental results demonstrate that the sensor exhibits a significant response within a concentration range of 0.1–100 μM, achieving a sensitivity of 0.732 nm/μM in the 0.1–1 μM range with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.1 μM. Furthermore, the biosensor demonstrates the exceptional specificity for Flu detection among various quinolone antibiotics, while delivering reliable detection in real samples. With the integrated advantages of high sensitivity, superior selectivity, and long-term stability, this sensing platform shows the promising potential for on-site monitoring applications in food safety supervision and veterinary drug residue analysis.

Recently, the development of a novel fluorescent (FL) nanoprobe for ratiometric detection of antibiotics in real-world samples has received more and more attention. In this article, the distinctive optical properties of deep-ultraviolet emission, a narrowed full width at half maximum (∼20 nm) and excitation-independent emission of a carbonized nanoprobe (CNP) were easily prepared by an environmentally friendly approach of solvothermal treatment using melamine as the precursor and H2O as the solvent. The obtained CNP can be further utilized as an efficient ratiometric FL nanoprobe for enrofloxacin (EFC) and feroxacin (FXC) detection based on the fact that the FL quenching of the CNP was accompanied by an FL increase with EFC/FXC based on the inner filter effect (IFE). Under the optimal conditions, excellent linear relationships existed between the relative FL intensity (FL290 nm/FL412 nm, CNP for FL290 nm and antibiotics for FL412 nm) and the concentrations of FXC and EFC in the range of 0.05–500.0 μM and 0.05–200.0 μM, with limits of detection of 21.74 and 22.43 nM (3σ/k), respectively. With the proposed ratiometric FL sensor, FXC and EFC in milk and serum samples can be rapidly and selectively analyzed without tedious pretreatment processes for real-world samples.
