Various large specific surface area carbon-based materials have been considered as fascinating electrode materials for capacitive deionization . However, the low adsorption capacity and sluggish desalination rates of traditional carbon-based materials still impede the further development of capacitive deionization. Herein, we successfully synthesized the nitrogen and fluorine co-doped porous carbon nanosheets (N, F@CNs) with abundant edge-defects via a facile one-pot strategy and systematically investigated its electrochemical properties for capacitive deionization. The introduction of F heteroatom not only effectively improves the edge-defect density and increases the adsorption sites, but also accelerates the ions and electrons transport, which can significantly enhance the electrochemical performance of the N, F@CNs. As a result, in an asymmetric CDI device, the N, F@CNs delivered an excellent salt (Na + ) adsorption capacity (71 mg g −1 ) at the applied potential of 1.2 V, which significantly higher than that of N-doped carbon nanosheets (32 mg g −1 ), along with outstanding cycling stability. Furthermore, the adsorption/desorption mechanisms involved were detailedly elucidated via systematic characterizations. Therefore, this work provides a new thought for designing carbon-based materials with excellent performance for capacitive deionization.

Low-dimensional metal halides, especially zero-dimensional (0D) compounds, are important derivative members of the halide perovskite family primarily due to their highly emissive properties. Here, we report two highly luminescent 0D lead bromides, (BPP)2PbBr4 and (BPPF)2PbBr4·2H2O, abbreviated as BPP-0D and BPPF-0D (BPP = benzyltriphenylphosphonium, BPPF = (4-fluorobenzyl)triphenylphosphonium). Both compounds share mutual seesaw inorganic units [PbBr4]2– separated by bulky organic cations. BPP-0D and BPPF-0D emit yellow and green lights, respectively, with photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields (PLQYs) of ∼15 and ∼55% at ambient conditions. Both compounds show excellent environmental stability and practical applications in light-emitting diodes. Upon compression, BPP-0D experiences a rapid decrease in PL intensity, accompanied by an obvious change in its emissive color from yellow to blue. In contrast, BPPF-0D demonstrates excellent optical stability, retaining its green emission, while the PL increases by ∼1.7 times at 0.8 GPa and the PLQY increases to 93%. For BPPF-0D, the presence of an extra highly electronegative fluoride group adds many more noncovalent interactions, such as C–H···F hydrogen bond and F···F interactions. These interactions strengthen the structural and optical stabilities of BPPF-0D, maintaining its emission peak position with elevated pressure. The straightforward comparison between two similar compounds and their optical properties under pressure modulation underscores the importance of engineering organic cations to control and optimize their properties.

The Nickel-based catalysts have a good catalytic effect on the 5-hydroxymethylfurfural electrooxidation reaction (HMFOR), but limited by the conversion potential of Ni 2+ /Ni 3+ , 1.35 V versus RHE, the HMF electrooxidation potential of nickel-based catalysts is generally greater than 1.35 V versus RHE. Considering fluorine has the highest Pauling electronegativity and similar atomic radius of oxygen, the introduction of fluorine into the lattice of metal oxides might promote the adsorption of intermediate species, thus improving the catalytic performance. F is successfully doped into the lattice structure of NiCo 2 O 4 spinel oxide by the strategy of hydrothermal reaction and low-temperature fluorination. As is confirmed by in situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy, the introduction of F weakens the interaction force of metal-oxygen covalent bonds of the asymmetric M T -O-M O backbone and improves the valence of Ni in tetrahedra structure, which makes it easier to be oxidized to higher valence active Ni 3+ under the action of electric field and promotes the adsorption of OH − , while the decrease of Co valence enhances the adsorption of HMF with the catalyst. Combining the above reasons, F-NiCo 2 O 4 shows superb electrocatalytic performance with a potential of only 1.297 V versus RHE at a current density of 20 mA cm −2 , which is lower than the most catalyst.
