Effects of Mo2C loading and H2S concentration on Mo2C/Al2O3 catalyst applied in sulfur-resistant methanation

Baowei Wang,Chengyu Wang,Wenxian Yu

Mo 2 C/Al 2 O 3 catalyst was prepared by the impregnation method with urotropine and ammonium paramolybdate. The catalytic effect of Mo 2 C as a typical transition-metal carbide in sulfur-resistant methanation was studied. The catalysts prepared were characterized by N 2 adsorption–desorption, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, H 2 -temperature-programmed reduction, and Raman spectra, with the results confirming the formation of β-molybdenum carbide on the surface of the catalysts. Studies on catalysts with different loading doses indicate that the optimal loading of Mo 2 C/Al 2 O 3 is about 15 wt.%, which enables CO conversion rate of up to 47%, with methane selectivity of up to 53%. This work further explored the effect of different concentrations of H 2 S in the raw gas on the performance of the catalyst, with the results showing that high concentration of H 2 S (>1500 ppm) can lead to sulfuration of active species on the catalyst, while resulting in a decrease in the catalytic activity.

Framework Fe-Doped Mobil Five (MFI) Zeolites as Highly Active and Stable Fenton-Like Catalysts for Basic Dyes Degradation

Deng Senlin,Lv Guojun,Zhai Yi,Yang Zebin,Zhu Yongqiang,Li Haichao,Wang Fumin,Zhang Xubin

Highly active and stable framework Fe-doped ZSM-5 (f-Fe-ZSM-5) zeolites with different Fe contents, which were synthesized using a facile one-pot hydrothermal method, could effectively resolve the loss of iron element during the catalytic degradation of basic dyes. The successful introduction of Fe species into the framework of ZSM-5 was confirmed by elemental mappings, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis spectra). The operational parameters, such as Fe content, H2O2 concentration, reaction temperature, types of dyes as well as the stability of the synthesized samples were extensively evaluated. It was demonstrated that the f-Fe(0.10)-ZSM-5 exhibited an efficient catalytic ability and excellent stability even after seven consecutive runs. The degradation efficiency of f-Fe-ZSM-5 for basic dyes was higher than that for acid dye. Therefore, f-Fe-ZSM-5 zeolites may present major potential for the treatment of basic dyes waste water without adjusting the initial pH value.

Direct Electrochemiluminescence Imaging of a Single Cell on a Chitosan Film Modified Electrode

Gen Liu,Cheng Ma,Bao-Kang Jin,Zixuan Chen,Jun-Jie Zhu

Single-cell imaging is essential for elucidating the biological mechanism of cell function because it accurately reveals the heterogeneity among cells. The electrochemiluminescence (ECL) microscopy technique has been considered a powerful tool to study cells because of its high throughput and zero cellular background light. However, since cells are immobilized on the electrode surface, the steric hindrance and the insulation from the cells make it difficult to obtain a luminous cell ECL image. To solve this problem, direct ECL imaging of a single cell was investigated and achieved on chitosan and nano-TiO2 modified fluoride-doped tin oxide conductive glass (FTO/TiO2/CS). The permeable chitosan film is not only favorable for cell immobilization but also increases the space between the bottom of cells and the electrode; thus, more ECL reagent can exist below the cells compared with the cells on a bare electrode, which guarantees the high sensitivity of quantitative analysis. The modification of nano-TiO2 strengthens the ECL visual signal in luminol solution and effectively improves the signal-to-noise ratio. The light intensity is correlated with the H2O2 concentration on FTO/TiO2/CS, which can be applied to analyze the H2O2 released from cells at the single-cell level. As far as we know, this is the first work to achieve cell ECL imaging without the steric hindrance effect of the cell, and it expands the applications of a modified electrode in visualization study.

Hydrogen Bubbles: Harmonizing Local Hydrogen Transfer for Efficient Plastic Hydro-Depolymerization

Qingyun Kang,Xiaofang Zhang,Qianyue Feng,Lin Zhang,Mingyu Chu,Chaoran Li,Panpan Xu,Muhan Cao,Le He,Qiao Zhang,Jinxing Chen

Hydro-depolymerization presents a promising avenue for transforming plastic waste into high-value hydrocarbons, offering significant potential for value-added recycling. However, a major challenge in this method arises from kinetic limitations due to insufficient hydrogen concentration near the active sites, requiring optimal catalytic performance only at higher hydrogen pressures. In this study, we address this hurdle by developing “hydrogen bubble catalysts” featuring Ru nanoparticles within mesoporous SBA-15 channels (Ru/SBA). The distinctive feature of Ru/SBA catalysts lies in their capacity for physical hydrogen storage and chemically reversible hydrogen spillover, ensuring a timely and ample hydrogen supply. Under identical reaction conditions, the catalytic activity of Ru/SBA surpassed that of Ru/SiO2 (no hydrogen storage capacity) by over 4-fold. This substantial enhancement in catalytic performance provides significant opportunities for near atmospheric pressure hydro-depolymerization of plastic waste.

Bioactive multifunctional dressing with simultaneous visible monitoring pH value and H2O2 concentration for promoting diabetic wound healing

Jimin Huang,Jinzhou Huang,Xinxin Zhang,Qinyi Xie,Yi Zheng,Chaoqin Shu,Zhe Shi,Xiao Wang,Jiajie Chen,Bing Ma,Chengtie Wu,Yufang Zhu

Wound healing in diabetes is a complex physiological process with risks of ulceration and amputation. Real-time monitoring and treatment of diabetic wounds is an effective prevention of further deterioration. Herein, a multifunctional dressing is developed by encapsulating europium-containing bioactive glass (EuBG) and MoO3-x in biocompatible sodium alginate (SA) dressing (MoO3-x-EuBG-SA), aiming to simultaneously monitor the wound pH value and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration, establish anti-inflammatory microenvironment, and promote wound healing. pH-responsive fluorescence quenching effect of the EuBG contributes to visible pH values monitoring, and MoO3-x enables high responsiveness and accurate colorimetric indication of H2O2 variability to understand the dynamic wound status. Then, these fluorescent and colorimetric photographs can be captured by smartphones and transformed into signals for wound pH value and H2O2 concentration, enabling rapid and convenient real-time assessment of wound dynamic conditions. Furthermore, MoO3-x-EuBG-SA dressing can reduce inflammation and promote the proliferation, differentiation, and migration of fibroblasts and endothelial cells in vitro with the help of the released bioactive Si, Ca, and Mo ions. Notably, the MoO3-x-EuBG-SA dressing exhibits excellent abilities of monitoring wound microenvironment, immune regulation, and promoting diabetic wound healing in vivo. Overall, the multifunctional dressing has great potential for managing diabetic wounds and promoting wound healing.

Tumor Microenvironment-Activatable Nanosystem Capable of Overcoming Multiple Therapeutic Obstacles for Augmenting Immuno/Metal-Ion Therapy

Qian Cheng,Xiaolei Shi,Yuzhe Chen,Qilin Li,Jiawei Wang,Heli Li,Lin Wang,Zheng Wang

Abnormal tumor microenvironment (TME) imposes barriers to nanomedicine penetration into tumors and evolves tumor-supportive nature to provide tumor cell protection, seriously weakening the action of antitumor nanomedicines and posing significant challenges to their development. Here, we engineer a TME-activatable size-switchable core–satellite nanosystem (Mn-TI-Ag@HA) capable of increasing the effective dose of therapeutic agents in deep-seated tumors while reversing tumor-supportive microenvironment for augmenting immuno/metal-ion therapy. When activated by TME, the nanosystem disintegrates, allowing ultrasmall-sized Ag nanoparticles to become unbound and penetrate deep into solid tumors. Simultaneously, the nanosystem produces O2 and releases TGF-β inhibitors in situ to drive macrophage M2-to-M1 polarization, increasing intratumoral H2O2 concentration, and ultimately augmenting metal-ion therapy by accelerating hypertoxic Ag+ production. The nanosystem can overcome multiple obstacles that aid in tumor resistance to nanomedicine, demonstrating effective tumor penetration, TME regulation, and tumor inhibition effects. It can provoke long-term immunological memory effects against tumor rechallenge when combined with immune checkpoint inhibitor anti-PD-1. This work provides a paradigm for designing efficient antitumor nanomedicines.
