A Cu 2+ -modified carboxylated hollow carbon nanospheres (Cu 2+ -HCNSs-COOH) was designed with enhanced peroxidase-like activity for the detection of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and degradation of methylene blue (MB). Hollow polymer nanospheres were fabricated from aniline, pyrrole, Triton-100, and ammonium persulfate via confined interfacial copolymerization reaction, which can be pyrolyzed to create HCNSs with the hollow gap diameter of about 20 nm under high temperature. Combining the synergistic effect of coordination and electrostatic interaction, Cu 2+ -HCNSs-COOH was constructed by anchoring Cu 2+ on the surface of HCNSs-COOH. Furthermore, Cu 2+ -HCNSs-COOH has higher affinity for 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine and H 2 O 2 of 0.20 mM and 0.88 mM, respectively. Based on the rapid response of Cu 2+ -HCNSs-COOH to H 2 O 2 , we constructed a colorimetric sensing platform by detecting the absorbance of the 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine-H 2 O 2 system at 652 nm for quantifying H 2 O 2 , which holds good linear relationship between 1 and 150 μM and has a detection limit of 0.61 μM. We also investigated the degradation of MB in the presence of Cu 2+ -HCNSs-COOH and H 2 O 2 , which can degrade 80.7% pollutants within 30 min. This research developed an unusual nanozyme for bioassays and water pollution treatment, which broadened the way for the rapid development of clinical diagnostics and water pollution treatment. In the present study, we have prepared glutathione capped gold and platinum alloy nanoclusters (Au-PtNCs) in a controlled way by employing the hydrothermal method and optimized through adjusting the ratio of raw materials, reaction temperature, and time. Compared with the corresponding monometallic gold and platinum nanoclusters, the alloy nanoclusters' catalytic activity is improved dramatically in the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of H 2 O 2 . And the maximum velocity is calculated to be 106 × 10 −8 M · s −1 for TMB as substrate, being much better than that of other reported metallic nanoclusters and nanoparticles. Further study shows that the high catalytic activity mainly attributes to the synergistic effect of gold and platinum. Besides, they have been applied to determine H 2 O 2 in the presence of TMB, which shows high sensitivity with a limit of detection (LOD) at 100 nM. The proposed method has been used to determine H 2 O 2 in milk and contact lens solutions, which shows very good recovery and exhibits high practical application potential. Therefore, the present study provides a new type of alloy nanoclusters with high peroxidase-like activity, which will inspire more research interests on doping and alloying with Pt to improve the catalytic activity of metal nanoclusters.
